Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008,  PG-13)
Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Woody Allen is back on the top with this delightful comedy about love, passion, betrayal, disappointments and all those feelings that are involved in relationships. With wonderful dialogues, he tells us about the amorous adventures of two friends on vacation in Barcelona, and shows us a clever and funny look at the different ways of viewing a relationship. The whole cast is great, Javier Barden, Scarlett Johansson and Rebecca Hall did an incredible job, but Penelope Cruz is outstanding. I'm extremelly glad she won the Oscar for her role because she was simply perfect. She steals every scene she's in. And the beautiful scenery makes the movie even better.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008,  PG-13)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
This was, without a doubt, one of the most amazing experience I've ever had watching a movie. David Fincher has created another masterpiece with this touching, original and magical fable. Brad Pitt was excellent playing all ages of Benjamin Button and Cate Blanchett was terrrific (as usual) in the role of Button's impossible love. The supporting actors were really impressive as well, for instance Taraji P. Henson and Tilda Swinton.
Although it hasn't won any Golden Globe, it deserved all nominations it got. I will definitely hope that it receives a lot of Oscar nominations.
139
Seven Pounds (2008,  PG-13)
Seven Pounds
I was expecting another family melodrama like "The Pursuit of Happyness", but I really enjoyed "Seven Pounds". There are a lot of sentimental scenes on this too, but it doesn't get boring. It's great to see Will Smith playing different roles than his usual bad boys and Rosario Dawson has proven that she can actually act.
140
Revolutionary Road (2008,  R)
Revolutionary Road
After his highly praised "American Beauty", Sam Mendes brings us another piece about the american dream and what may come along with it. DiCaprio and Winslet are brillant playing a couple that seems to live a perfect life, but actually is facing a lot of difficulties in every way of their lives. They should at least have been nominated for Oscar for their roles. All the supporting cast was terrific, and Michael Shannon deserves his nomination. I think that "Revolutionary Road" should have been nominated for best picture, director and writing, and I really don't get it why the Academy simply ignored it.
141
Doubt (2008,  PG-13)
Doubt
First of all, the cast is perfect. They all deserve their nominations, but unfortunately it is very likely that none will win. Every scene they were discussing or talking was wonderful, but beyond all, they could tell us everything just with their look. One of the things I liked the most, is that we do not see anything more than the characters, and we end up with as many doubts as they do.

Coraline (2009,  PG)
Coraline
I just loved it. The story is totally original, the stop motion animation is enchanting... well, everthing looks perfect. The ideia of a fairy tale mixed with horror is terrific. All the characters are wonderfully portrayed, each one with their own frustration and dreams. Watching it was a complete joy. A instant classic.
143
The Wrestler (2008,  R)
The Wrestler
Darren Aronofsky has already done a masterpiece with his disturbing "Requiem for a Dream", and now he is back with the heartbreaking story of a retired wrestler trying to get his fame back. He is finished, addicted to drugs and steroids, and to get even better, he suffers a heart attack and can't fight anymore. So, he tries to start a life without wrestling, working in a market. Besides all that, he tries to repair his broken relantionship with his daughter (Evan Rachel Wood, amazing) and to win a stripper's heart (beautifully portrayed by Marisa Tomei). Aronofsky did a terrific job, as usual, with his very own style and precise direction, he deserves some recogntion right now. The choice of shotting mostly with a handheld camera was perfect. It gave it a nice documentary style. Mickey Rourke's performance was incredible, a wonderful way to come back.
144
Milk (2008,  R)
Milk
First of all, it's amazing how Gus Van Sant can get wonderful performances of every actor in this movie. James Franco, Emile Hirsch, Allison Pill, Josh Brolin and Diego Luna were great. I don't even need to say anything about Sean Penn. The movie is visually stunning, has an amazing costume design and the script is terrific. It really deserved the Oscar for best original screenplay. One of 2008's best.
145
Watchmen (2009,  R)
Watchmen
I am still looking for all the greatness that everyone seems to see in this movie. I was actually enjoying the movie untill the part they go to Mars and all that crap. The cast was good, most of it at least. And I really like Zack Snyder directing style... but the end was really predictable and cliche. I would love to make it end in the prison scene, the movie would be perfect if I could. Nice soundtrack though.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
Amazing. Magical. Incredible. I loved every minute of it. The caracthers are adorable, the cinematography is great and I won't say anything about the acting. I was amazed by every scene and every detail. When I heard Jude Law, Colin Farrell and Johnny Depp were going to "replace" (it's awful to say that, Heath Ledger is irreplaceable) I remender thinking "that's not going to work", but they made it perfectly.
