Sunshine (2007, R)
Danny boyle has become one of the UKs best directors and Sunshine is probably his most visually stunning yet, if not his best film to date. Strong performances, sharpe dialogue shine though, but the real star is the great use of CG that enhance the set pieces. The sudden horror genre type twist taken from event horizon spoils the feel and tension of the film slightly. Still the last sun pinnacle scene is just blinding and satifying. |

28 Weeks Later... (2007, R)
28 weeks later should of been a straight to dvd sequel. Instead straight off the bat which includes a brillant opening scene, the film is a solid continuation of the rage virus story. There is plenty of blood, and more deserted london shots to like. ...(read more)Also good acting makes the film a surprising pleasure. |

Them (Ils) (2007, R)
Once in a while, a european thriller comes out and Hollywood has nothing on them, most recently it was the film hidden. Them is the latest. Based on true events, the film opens with a great pre credit later night fright. The action moves to a young couple having their lives turn upside down by a bunch of intruders in their creepy house in the woods. Them's strengths are in the use of sound which is brillantly realised. The couple live in an old house that creeks everywhere, building tension, also the use of hard rain, televsions sets and car radios, are also very effective. Still the tension is streched and when the action moves to the forest and beyond things lose sight. The end payoff works, but the explanation credits takes the edge off an otherwise fright feast! |

Fracture (2007, R)
A jealious husband shoots his wife and what looks like a open and shut case for the Assistant DA, turns into a cat and mouse game, for the two leads. Fracture is a fun piece of hokum the plot is straight out of an epoisode of Columbo, but it is a very well made film. With surprisly good cinematography, and good performances, Hopkins especially. Ryan Gosling as the DA office is irritaing and tries to hard to be the next Tom Cruise but effective. |

The Reaping (2007, R)
Strange goings on involving murder, and a river of what seems to be blood in a lousisana town, bring a young couple of scientist to invistagate. What follows are a series of replicate biblical plagues. Sadly there is nothing new in the reaping, and the film is devoid of any kind of horror, and suspense, shame from a director who has made both a nightmare on elm street and a predator film. Hilary Swank is a good actress and is watchable, but this is a forgettable performance, and a million dollar baby seem a long time ago now. |

Following the success of underground hit wolf creek and some could say the success of The Beach, another watch out when travelling film emerges. Following the usual story of not trusting a lone stranger in oz is well acted, but the villian is so shad...(read more)y in the first place no one would trust him, and the slow build up to the inevitable ending is to slow and the seen it all before ending is nothing new. Shooter (2007, R)
Charlton heston would be proud of shooter! Gun porn is the best way to decribe this film. When you have a scene of a gentle american girl taking great pleasure from unloading a pistol into an already dead villian, you know the score. Still Wahlberg is as always likeable, the plot is ok and the action is as expected over the top but fun. Still with bourne doing this kind of thing better shooter fall short. |

Next (2007, PG-13)
Nicolas Cage is a good actor, Julianne Moore is a good actress, but both must be saving up for a nice holiday to sign up for this. Next reminds me of Butterfly effect, both had interesting ideas, seeing the future and how to use the gift. Still Next can not escape a slow ploding script, and the weak love story is just a waste of time. A sequel maybe a good idea and stick to the good premise. |
