Flickering Lightbulbs.
movies that buzz up my brainwaves ten times its usual rate and made me suffer enough thoughts to drive me into a coma.

if i had a choice of a life, this would be it; to be eternally bound to the love of my life, and to kill people at the same time :D what a Perfect match. sigh. i love how this movie was shot, with slides of inner psyches and the whole fun and beauty of something that's otherwise known as morally wrong. love the script. love the cast. |

Carandiru (2004, R)
i don't know how to begin this and i've rewritten the review more than once; for the first time, i'm actually stumped for words. i'll say one thing tho; those who've been raving over city of god probably should've watched this movie -first-. i don't understand why people keep comparing the two movies though; they're so far off. yknow. this movie just reminds us how precious life is. movie reaks with emotions and humanistic issues on something as simple as the dream to survive. bloody touching. (i'm specifically using the word "dream" instead of "need", think about it). highly recommended. |

The Cell (2000, R)
i think everyone or anyone who watches the movie would have different perceptions on whether it was horrifying, disturbing, artistic, or none of them at all. it connects to possibly someone who has probably been through or is in touch with their darkest selves; the visual imageries probably might have given the watcher an insight of how their "demons" would look like, and in turn make it either a pleasurable watch or a highly disturbing one, depending on their own psyche interpreting what they see. the movie has stirred up ideas of how my darkest platforms might look like. i wanted more though. |

Meet Joe Black (1998, PG-13)
There's little direction in the questioning of this Death character development, but then again I don't feel he's in topic of this movie at all; just playing the part of the waves carrying a ship of meanings to shore. No hollywood fantasy mumbo jumbo here, just a delicately laced love story pulled through and over life, the core of human emotions, its consequences and facing the end of it, tinged with the platform of class. Beautiful script, unique front, the little bits of literary humours, backed by Gabriel Yared's beautiful compositions... I just simply love the flow. There are so *many* lines in this movie I probably won't forget. Was a little edgy with Pitt's acting but I think he managed it otherwise. A little distracting, but.. yeah. LOL. I love "the discovery of peanut butter" scene, he was quite adorable with the whole PB obsession lol! :p somewhere.. over the rainbow... |

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006, R)
One of the most interesting movies with the most strangest ending I had ever seen. You MUST catch this if you haven't. Unique story with an edge of contemporary fantasy, a very dark psychological theme driven in all manner of poetry laced in between, excellent cast, great camera shots, and a gorgeous soundtrack. A masterpiece, like everyone else has said --- Highly recommended movie. I'm off to hunt for the book. |

The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005, PG-13)
Well-crafted movie. Honest, believable vibe with nothing extreme out of the usual exorcism accounts. Carpenter was very good in her part. Whatever the case was, be it by mental illness or demonic dispensations, it's sad to watch Emily Rose (Anneliese Michel?) suffer and her insistance in the matter is indeed admirable. Don't know about horror, but it definitely made me think. Score :) |
