Hauru no ugoku shiro (Howl's Moving Castle)
Howl's Moving Castle is a rich, ambient animation with exceedingly good animation. Miyazaki's vision and direction enables this film to transcend above many other animations and proves that Japanese are superior than that of the west for this genre. I found this better than Spirited Away but not as good or compelling as Princess Mononoke.

District B13 (Banlieue 13)
Distirct 13 is a sensational and jaw-dropping action thriller from the cerebrum of the ledgendary Luc Besson.

The action and thrilling set-peices are needed to be seen as they are some of the best ever filmed most conspicuously the parkour chase scene at the beginning of the film. This brilliantly choreographered and performed
sequence sets the pace for the remainder of the film, as both main protagonists parttake is some amazing fight segments. A must watch for all fans of action films, as this surpasses many.

Bob le Flambeur (Bob the Gambler)
Bob le Flambeur is a good, solid noir film. It is will directed, with excellent dialogue, and competent acting. The atmosphere casted by the director with the backdrops of a pleasant by day, sinister by night French town was really excellently played. Overall good film.

Amelie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain) (2001,  R)
Amelie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain)
Amelie is a unique blend of drama and comedy and is based around the background and maturing life of Audrey tautou's Amelie as she discovers life from being isolated as a child. Amelie comes across as juvinile, naive, a little adventureous but also a recluse. Her journey from this state of becoming altruistic and in love is a clever and riveting view. This movie is well written and directed, with excellent and artisitc camera shots and scenes.

A Man Called Hero (Zhong hua ying xiong)
This film is a very mixed bag which could delight fans of the genre. For me however I was not delighted and found myself very bored between fight scenes. The fights scenes were not that great except for one or two, mixed with some good cgi the water sword fight was impressive whilst th eothers fell short of delivering. The production value oft his Hong kong film was rather high with some good backdrop pieces. The acting, script and direction did let this film down however, it was a shame as it had some potential

New Police Story (San ging chaat goo si)
A darker more uncomprimising background/plot is the set of this installment of Police Story which is different to its predecessors. Jackie Chan visits a familiar role with great action and stunt set pieces. I found the film to be good on most fronts with a rather high production value, the plot like most other action movies was always going to be farfetched but the movie is enjoyable paced well throughout. its great to see Jackie still doing great stunts and action choreograpghy with decent acting after so many years. Recommended for fans of this genre

Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War
This is an excellent war darma. the only thing letting this film was the special effects airplanes, other that I can't pick faults at it. Im my opinion it is superioir to Saving Private Ryan, exluding Star Wars :p this is my favourite war movie.

The Passion of the Christ (2004,  R)
The Passion of the Christ
The Passion of Christ is a brutal portrayal of the last hours of Jesus of Nazareth. The film is beautifully shot, directed, and also acted. The Aramic dialect throughout was a great addition to this piece and added to its authenticity. These elements create a revelation and new perception in how much Jesus suffered, and also his compassion towards humanity, his people. The film emphasises on Jesus's sacrifice and the hatered that is vented from clique, orthodox religion. Therre is also aknowledgement of power struggles between the high ranking clergy including archimandrites, postulants and more significantly the head leaders of Judaisim. There was a focus upon his pain and suffering, which the effects were truely fantastic which werecquite astonishing. The film des not force religion to the viewer. The film just lacks a little essence for me. overall very good and credit for the bravery to make such a film with all the added implications.
