Devdas (2002, Unrated)
WOW! The most richly ornate, colourful and glittering movie I have EVER SEEN! AMAZING! The dancing, music, singing and filming are superb. The costume and sets are BEAUTIFUL!! It is a long romantic overdrama with much eye candy. I'm convinced Aishwarya is the most beautiful woman in the world! The overdrama tempts me to make this 41/2 stars but, it also adds to its charm! So passionate! I am amazed at the care for each and every shot taken and the aesthetic richness is like my dreams, so this goes fully 5 stars! |

Confetti (2006, R)
This is pretty darn funny! Filmed much like the Michael Guest films with their rediculous, yet watered down style, humour and as if it is a reality show, yet this one is British. |

La Science des Rêves (The Science of Sleep) (2006, R)
A french film but in english and by the same fellow who made Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind. This is a VERY imaginative and sweet love story about a man who has trouble living in the real world and is constantly mixing up his reality with his dreams. At the same time a sweet attractive woman moves in next door who finds his imagination akin to her own and they weave together a stop filmography dreamworld. Fun and entertaining but, very jumbled and at times hard to watch or follow. |

Lagaan - Once Upon a Time in India (2001, PG)
The most dramatic Cricket game EVER!!!! A lot like baseball, this village in India must win an intense game of cricket in order to no long pay taxes (lagaan) by the overbearing British governments who have antagonistically laid claim to the provinces' crops. Since there is no rain yet this season, it is either win the game or lose their lives! |

Princes and Princesses (Princes et princesses) (2000, Unrated)
Very Entertaining. A couple kids get together with a man who has a magic computer that helps them to research ideas for their stories and then make those stories come to life with them as the main characters. Some good original little tales!! Charming!! All french with subtitles but still excellent for kids who don't know french but have a little imagination. |

M (1931, Unrated)
You need a lot of patience to watch this film even though it is only 95min. The version of this I saw was the worst quality of film I have ever seen: It looked as if someone filmed a projection of the original film with another old and bad quality film. There are some long 'meeting' scenes with a lot of dialogue that was not included with the subtitles. The subtitles were pretty horrible and I am sure the film would be much better to someone who knows German. Regardless of these hurdles and considering the time it was filmed, this piece is fantastic!! The kidnapping scenes are hauntingly well filmed, and it's excellently acted by Peter Lorre. Analyzes the citizens' responses to dealing with a child murderer. |

Da hong deng long gao gao gua (Raise the Red Lantern) (1991, PG)
An exceptional movie that gives a look into the orient of the past. (hopefully its not like that now!) An amazing look at the small worlds of several women who live only to serve their one husband as is custom in his household. The movie is based on a book, so it starts out a little slow but you get quickly wrapped up in the plot and follow the main character as she discovers her newly caged life and the viscous people she must live with. You see how masks are worn by various characters to make the best of their life. Painfully you see how the main character tries them on herself but slowly her psyche begins to fragment... you swagger between liking and disliking her, but feeling her emotions along the way: pain, loss, frustration, anger, jealousy and slowly the loss of meaning in her life. There are glimpses of hope along the way, but each one seems stamped out. A real tradgedy. |

La Vie en Rose (La Mome) (2007, PG-13)
Marion Cotillard is nominated for lead actress at the Oscars and after watching this, she certainly deserves it! This movie was very lovingly created. The only thing was it became somewhat tedious in that it seemed like it was going to end soon a number of times and was a long film, but still a very good one. |

Once (2007, R)
About a troubador meeting a girl and working on music from the ground roots. Filmed naturalistically, handheld, like a home movie. The film is basically all music with some simple, but aesthetic, filmwork. It is slowmoving, driven by the music, you are carried by the 2 voices singing, the simple quitar and piano (with a few other instruments later) and the slow development of the characters and their relationship together. Simple, sweet, kind, almost soaring. I would buy the soundtrack, particularly for the one song with the electronic keyboard hehe :) |

Chungking Express (1996, PG-13)
Rather entertaining! Very EMO, involving two men ruminating about the women who have left them. A little confusing and weird, but also cute and appealing. I think there should have been a third storyline instead of stretching the second out doubletime. It would have made more sense and flowed better. |

Saawariya (2007, PG)
This has become one of my favourite movies! It is an unrequited love story based on Dovsteovsky's "White Night". Very attractive leads with so much talent! Beautiful singing and music set amidst a spectacular set! Every scene is ripe with atmosphere and stunning parisian style, emo, and glowing night scenes. Very romantic and tragic love story, definately worth seeing!! |
