good history

Young German boys trained in special schools for ranking positions in the Nazi "future". A look into the mind set of the time. One boy is picked because he is a fine boxer; another is a writer who begins to see the evil in the Party; hints of their relationship. One interesting scene - the boxer is carefully measured and judged by hair and eye color, distance from nose to chin, width of head and judged to be "very Arian". Very well done movie. Subtitles; it's in German.

This is an unusal gay movie. And the right two guys find each other eventually (Maybe not the two cutest, but the right two). Some serious stuff here and a good deal of fun. When you're gay, it's easy to assume that you won't be accepted, often enough that assumption is a crippling mistake. This is a very good movie whether you're gay or not.

This is worth seeing. Not the greatest, but not bad either. I like the "tag line" - "The shortest distance bewteen friends is not always a STRAIGHT line."

How could anyone not like this movie? L Minelli is outrageous; M Yorkis gay; Joel Grey is over the top; and the threat of Nazism should never be forgotten.

I was surprised to see that one of Edison's first "movies" was of three men - one playing a violin and the other two dancing together! Gay or not, this is a valuable piece of history. For gays - a view the rocky road we've travelled and hope for the path ahead; for the rest, hopefully some understanding and acceptance. The hoopla over the "Brokeback" kiss made me uncomfortable. There were a lot of great kisses long before that. Tom Hanks says (in this piece) no matter whom you love, it's still spelled with the same four letters L O V E and pronounced the same way.

Wilson Cruz, some funny stuff, some serious gay stuff; one of the better movies for not stereotyping gays (too much). What happends when your best buddy is gay and everyone (except you) is sure you are too? (Mom even moves in and brings a PFLAG buddy, since she's "always known".)

There is not one thing I don't like about this movie. Well, maybe Nia knocks David over a lot. Great acting; great music; and David's reaction to "the kiss" is worth the price of a ticket.

One of my Flixter "best friends" I Mann said it best: "This is a beautiful movie about the ups and downs of starting to live on your own and of friendship and curiosity. Really lovely movie and I highly recommend it." ... so do I.

good story; well done

R DeNiro and P S Hoffman are amazing in this movie. Good story. Hoffman, a drag queen, teaches DeNiro, a homophobic policeman who has suffered a stroke, how to sing. Excellent movie!

Powerful and warm. I love the eulogy at the funeral - can't find a copy of it.

being willing to be who you are is essential; looks won't substitute for honesty

Not a fun movie, but a very good one with three very good actors.

I still don't like to read a movie, but this one is worth it. Not a unique story, but a familiar story with a gay "twist". FUN. And some thoughtful stuff too.

Not the best "gay" movie, but still fun; the kiss between Kline and T Selleck is a riot and Joan Cusack is absolutely hilarious.

X rated. Bleak look at some very sad lives - drugs and alcohol, anger, anonymous sex, over-dominant father, totally submissive mother. I watched it twice to not just dismiss it. I suppose some lives are like that. Only one character with some hope -maybe (the rejected boyfriend Sean). It is very well done; but don't expect fun and happiness. One important message: Paul Capsis (the drag queen) says the worst sin is silence. Mark Twain said that too. To see evil and say nothing.

If you read the reviews on the page for this movie, you will find an almost total explosion of expletives - I like "absolutely excellent". There is a LOT to enjoy and to learn. The simple scene about the Holocaust is worth seeing the movie. And that's only five mibutes of an extraordinary film. I think I want to read the book... and get my own copy of the movie.

an old movie, but sweet and warm. The review with this is not correct. See the movie; see who shuts out whom (that's the really sad part); and hear Glenn Close sing to her son. Beautiful movie.

Put your cursor on the poster to see the "plot". It's not really about being naked as much as personal acceptance of who you are. Some fun, some good music, some eye candy (obviously), and only one "borderline" song (still fun). Good addition to our collection. You might like it too.

Important, interesting and excellent cast.

Excellent. MANY things to think about and talk about after the movie. During the movie LOTS to see and hear and experience. Far above average movie. Maybe you'll find an answer or two; more important, you might find a question or two. What a fuss was made in the USA about two men kissing in "Brokeback Mountain"; in this movie with big stars from England, it 'just happens'. Better message, I think.

Sounds like fluff, but it's not. solid movie with a solid message - and well done besides

Six gay men are getting married at the "first" national gay wedding. Add five mothers and one father and stir. A little clumsy here and there, but still a lot of fun. Pressure can bring out the worst in us and/or the best. If they dubb this in English, I'll give it an extra half star, I hate having to read a movie.

This does not have a lot of "viewers". Sad. It's a very good story very well done and has dozens of things going for it. Insights into being gay? a handfull ! And the detective and his lover are NOT from any broken mountain.

This is not a wonderful gay movie. But it's some fun and has some really possitive stuff. Paul Hogan and Michael Caton a gay couple? That's funny already!

Good story. English subtitles are a distraction, but necessary. Being gay is harder when it's your "terrible secret".

It's a "B" movie - no great actors. Some neat music and some great scenery. The story is good, but, more important, it says things that need to be said by some and heard by many.

The first of Chad Allen's "gay detective" movies. Both are very well done - the gay part and the detective part. You'll like this one and love the second one. Third one is being filmed now (1-10-08).

See this movie. If it doesn't touch your heart in some way, then see your cardiologist!

This is a great movie! The mother (from India) is beautiful and wonderful. The son is afraid to tell her he's gay - so he's distant; the boyfriend gets along with the mother better than he does. Oh, there's more - lots more - so see it! Far better than average.

Actors you would not expect to see in drag doing a really good movie.

Oil and water should not mix; but they do, for a while, in this movie. But the movie is better than that and bigger than that. The movie uses clips to move through the 1970s ans 80s. Some of it is reflected in the lives and struggles of the two lead men.

WOW! To get a glimpse of the story, put your cursor on the movie cover. It gives a good summary. This is a powerful movie with some very finely drawn characters with some serous real life issues.. My favorite line: The minister's wife goes to a neighbor to complain about the very large nude statue of David she has in her front yard. She suggests that the neighbor move it to the back yard where everyone won't have to see it. The neighbor responds, :"That's how you deal with life, isn't it? Move everything you don't like out of sight and refuse to discuss it." Very good movie!

I can enjoy seeing this over and over for many reason - the music is just one.

John Stamos (gay) and his brother Eric Dane (straight) deal with Eric's plans to marry the (James Brolin) governor's daughter. The governor is for an amendment to ban gay marriage. John was planning the marriage, but goes on strike. This is a funny, sensitive and worthwhile movie. Personally I like it better than "Brokeback Mountain"; it's not perfect, but it's really worth watching.

Powerful. Sad. Dramatic. Well acted. The mind can do strange things when it reacts to trauma. This movie tells about three ... or two ... or maybe one such case. Not what I expected from the reviews I saw, but well worth seeing.

If you're willing to read the script (or if you speak French) this is a pretty good movie. I'm not sure how well a straight audience can relate to the struggle to accept being gay, but they might learn something, unless they are visually shy.

Click the cover to read a summary. My opinion: guys who have already come out and those few who came out very early can have a difficult time relating to how difficult it can be. The basic difficulty here is coming out to yourself, being willing to admit that you are gay. This is not an award winner, but that doesn't mean it is not worth seeing.

This is not the only movie to overstate to emphasize. It's a flaw, but not a huge one, I suppose. I was glad the boyfriend came back the way he did. Watch this when you've had a busy day and want some simple entertainment.

Very well done movie. Sometimes the thing we want to do it the right thing, even when it doesn't seem to be what we ought to do. Lots of interesting relationships in this movie, and some of the difficulty of coming to terms with being gay.

I really like this movie. Two gay guys talk about what makes a "10". One takes a lot of the movie with the wrong guys until he discovers what the other guy understood all along, it's the 10 inside that really counts. Some pleasant music in this one too.

I thought this was an unusually fine movie. I think the plot line on Flixster misses the target; the box label says it better "sex pays - love costs". I laughed at what one character said about the natural transition from the search for Mr Right to the search for Mr Right Now.

This is not the best movie nor is it the worst. A touchy subject looked at but not explained or judged. Sort of abrupt ending - like they spent their time with the exposition and had to rush to wind it up. See it before you buy it.

This is an interesting movie. I wish it were exaggerating the circuit life, but I suspect not. Fortunately, the circuit does not represent all of gay life or all gay men.

This movie has some laugh out loud scenes and is about a high school senior who comes to terms with not just being gay, but accepting and liking himself.

The two young men at the center of this are gay and are getting married, joined, committed (they can'e agree on that). Their families are invited. Gather all the disfunction there has ever been in your family (and your partner's) (and your friends) and display it in an hour and a half. It sounds gross and sort of is, but it's also very funny.

"Based on a comic strip" hints that there might not be an "ending", but it is a fun look at trying to find the right relationship. Entertaining.

"cut sleeve" is Chinese for "gay". It's a good movie with a good story and some situations one might relate to, or not. I think it's worth a look.

I was reading the various "reviews" here on Flixter for this movie. It reminded me that each review (including the "plot" summary) should be titled "in my opinion". So, in my opinion, this is a movie worth seeing. It's about a lot more than being gay. No special effects or that stuff, but a movie to watch and listen to and, maybe, even think about a bit.

The earlier documentary is a better documentary. But this is an excellent movie that captures the truth, the spirit and the work of an extraordinary man who said "I'm almost 40 and have not done one important thing in my entire life". The next eight years of his life certanly ended that. Life for gays and society has chaged a lot, but not enough. And I think he was right; we all need to come out. Too many peole only know the rumors and stereotypes and lies, they need to know us as we are. They need to experience that there is no fundamental difference between us; there there is no reason for there to be an "us" and "them".

A very well done movie about a tense issue - can a gay man be a Christian. Excellent cast. The story was handled clearly and without apology or anger. Even if you have already decided your answer to the question, watching the movie and observing others find their own answers in worth the time. GOOD movie.
