Editing could have been better, but ultimately this is my favorite western of all time. the anticipation built up during a slow but eventful film sets the perfect scene for one of the best sequences in film history at the end of the film. accurate and thoughtful, this is a must see film.

val kilmer as doc hooliday might be the best acting performance of all time and the film is so good that i have seen this at least 10 times and it never gets old. a great western.

one of the great westerns of all time and one of the great films of the 90's. freeman is great as usual and eastwoods character evolves into lengendary status. really good film.

this was a fantastic movie. im almost inclined to score it even higher because i loved it so much. all of the acting across the board was phenomenal and the movie was gripping from start to finish. this was one of those rare stories in hollywood recently where there was a really strong character in all regards that you could root for. christian bales character was a honest family man just trying to earn the respect of his family. russel crowe did a great job as the villian. this film moved quickly and was told well. great flock.

definitely one of the best westerns of all time. stolen from the film yojimbo that was put out by kurosawa a few years earlier, this film had many scenes directly out of yojimbo that were done nearly as well. eastwood was great and sergio leone did a great job directing. this is the first part of a trilogy and in my mind the best of the trilogy. they did a great job continuing kurosawa's vision of the man with no name.

widely considered one of the greatest westerns of all time, this film is simple but profound and engaging from the outset. meant as a parable to the communist hunts in hollywood in the 50's, this film tells a great story about a good man doing whats right and all others standing by while it happens due to their common fear. really great film.

this is a great film. the directing job of sergio leone was very solid and the cast was great. cardinale was stunning and classy as the widow mcbain and charles bronson does a great job playing, essentially, himself. many of the scenes were stretched out so that the build up and anticipation of a shoot out mattered more to the film than the shoot outs themselves, this is a classic tactic of leones and in my mind its one of the great things about his films. i did think that the film suffered from too much down time, it could have been a bit better if about 20 minutes were dropped in the editing room, but this is a small criticism of an otherwise great and classic western.

this is the second film in the sergio leone trilogy starring eastwood as the man with no name. the stroy was great and the character was true to form. van cleef was great as the other bounty hunter and this flick has a great final sequence. the only flaw to me was the music, the other two films in this trilogy used music well, but for some reason in this film i found the music to be distracting. overall a great western.

this was a great film but highly overrated. this is the third film in a trilogy featuring the man with no name, eastwoods character, and is best explained as a prequel to the two films that came before it. it is easliy the most ambitious western of all time with great production and camera angles, but the story in this film was weaker then the two films that came before it. in the first two films the character is smart and calculated, always putting himself in the best positions, in this film he survives almost by accident which makes the character less interesting. the film did end well and the acting was excellent. clearly one of the best westerns of all time, but not quite as good as i was led to believe.

this was a good flick to watch, but it had some problems. positively, brad pitts performance was top notch and the film was interesting. it had more of a documentary feel than a movie feel but it didnt detract too much. negitively this story was told very unclearly. much was barely eluded to with little or no explination, even things that seemed important. in nearly three hours you would think that they could have given a fuller picture of some things. in the end i would recommend this film, especially to anyone interested in jesse james, it wasnt as great as it could have been but it was very good. the cinematography may be the best of the year.

really great movie. the acting was great and the story was fantastic. the end was the only down side. when the movie was over it felt incomplete, like they didnt give you the whole story and you wanted to know more. i hate that. but overall a really good movie.

many consider this to be eastwoods fourth film as the infamous "man with no name". this is the first film that he did with this sort of character that was not directed by sergio leone, and there are enough differences between the man with no name from leones trilogy and eastwoods character in this film to believe that the character is similar, but not the same. eastwood directed this film, and in it a few of the "man with no name's" trademarks are missing and the explination for this character is probably ore supernatural. pay attention to the final 2 minutes of the film, and you will see that eastwood is actually probably playing a ghost in this film. it was a decent film but there really was no character that you could root for. even as the hero, eastwood was more of an antihero with some terrible characterisitics, like a scene when he rapes a woman. this was a decent flick and worth a watch, but doesnt stand up to the man with no name trilogy that it is often compared to.

part of me actually wants to grade this a little lower. i expected more. mortensen and harris's characters were well written and well played, but the movie still lacked quite a bit. the love story, which was misplaced, was among the worst i have ever seen. almost as bad as the love story in pearl harbor. zellweger was miscast and annoying in this film and her portion of the story only confused the film and made it silly to watch. had some amazing scenes and is worth watching, but still a big dissapointment.

a classic tale of a lawman out to see justice served with no exceptions. this was a great flick unitl the end where the unexpected happens and not in a good way as a couple of the main characters change colors for no explained reason at all. justice becomes trivial, but the acting was solid and the film had a great feel. overall this was pretty good.

a pretty good flick, but vastly overrated. the entertainment factor was there, but the acting was sub par, the characters werent likeable, and the story was incoherent and ill explained. overall worth the watch if for no other reason than the historical significance, but was mostly an average flick.

this film started extremely strong out of the gate and stayed that way until there were only 20 minutes left, and then the film fell apart a little bit. the acting and plot were solid and the story was strong for being overly simple, but the desert scene at the end was contrived and anticlimatic. decent western overall.
