December Boys (2007, PG-13)
December Boys wasn?t nearly as good as I thought it was going to be. It was pretty good, but it wasn?t stupendous or anything. To begin with it was far too long. The movie would be improved a lot had it been about half an hour shorter. There really isn?t anything specifically I didn?t like about it. It just didn?t leave that great of an overall impression on me. A lot of the cinematography was really wonderful, as was the score. The story was pretty good, but it didn?t make you really care at all about the characters. Misty?s visions with the Nuns were just strange and even stranger once Maps saw them too. Idk, it just wasn?t a particularly remarkable movie. |

And When Did You Last See Your Father? (When Did You Last See Your Father?) (2008, PG-13)
And When Did You Last See Your Father? Really that is a rather strange title for a movie, especially when the plot has nothing to do with the lack of a father?s presence. The title is explained in the film, but its one of the best moments, so I?m not going to share it here. I really liked it quite a lot. It reminded me of Tim Burton?s Big Fish story wise that is. Its not nearly as colorful or fantastic as Big Fish, nor does it contain any of the fantasy. I really liked how the flashback scenes were much more vivid and colorful then the rest though. It really worked to the films advantage. Overall, it was a touching and entertaining film. I probably will never watch it again, but it really was rather good. |

Persepolis (2007, PG-13)
Persepolis really wasn?t what I expected at all. To begin with the trailer I watched compared it to Juno, and I fail to see the resemblance? Between that, and the style of the animation, which is reminiscent of Emily the Strange, I really was expecting some kind of sarcastic black comedy. In parts it is, but on the whole it shows some of the problems with the Iran society. Like Paradise Now, it shows what drives the people over there, and the great difference between what we perceive here in the states and what is actually occurring over there. Unlike Paradise Now, Persepolis really isn?t a hopeful tale. It also seems to be pushing an agenda and I really didn?t catch what is was. It shows what is wrong, but it doesn?t show what could be done to make life better. Persepolis picks the scab without offering a bandage. I?ve always kind of enjoyed films in this style, like V for Vendetta or Paradise Now as well as dystopian books like Animal Farm and 1984. Persepolis really fits in well with these types of works, even though it?s (loosely) based on facts. Idk, it wasn?t what I was expecting at all, but it really was pretty good. |

La Vie en Rose (La Mome) (2007, PG-13)
Hooooold me close and hoooold me faaast this mooooments where weeere aaat?.. I?ve always loved the song La Vie En Rose, and I finally got around to watching the movie. It was amazing. The music alone could have carried it fine, but the story was really interesting, and the art direction and some of the other effects were just amazing. The acting was by far the best part. I?ve never seen a performance like it. I do not remember what the actress? name was that portrayed Edith Paif (spl?) but it was hands down the best acting I have ever seen. She WAS Edith Paif, there was never a feeling that she was an actress attempting to portray someone, or that she was ever anything other than Edith. I do not know if she?s been in other films or not. I can?t picture her in any other roles? In other films you see actors giving a good performance, but they really are not the role, and this is not like that at all. The make-up was extraordinary too, we see Edith in all stages of life, and it never looks unnatural. Even her voice and posture seen to age, its really just amazing. I know this won a couple Oscars last year, for Make-Up and Best Actress I think, but it seems like it need more recognition. Its really an extraordinary movie, but I don?t think many people have seen it, or even heard of it. Which is really kind of sad? |

Henry Poole Is Here (2008, PG) |

Le Scaphandre et le Papillon (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) (2007, PG-13)
AMAZING! One of the most fasinating, intoxicating, and ultimately inspiring movie i have ever seen. I was kind of spetical as to how there could be a two hour movie about a guy with locked-in-syndrome but its really rather fasinating. The cinimatography is really one of the best features. I've never seen anything like it. |

Everything is Illuminated (2005, PG-13)
Everything is Illuminated could have been a Tim Burton movie. That?s one of the best compliments I can think of for it. It is severely fantastic, whimsical, colorful, and at the same time very dark and gripping. I loved pretty much everything about it. Elijah Wood really gave a delicate performance that I wouldn?t have expected from him. Also, as far as holocaust/World War II movies go, this one shows things in an entirely different light than I?ve seen in any other. Even though it treats the subject in a really light way, its still a very moving and sad story. Unlike other holocaust movies like say The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, which really was a good movie, Everything is Illuminated is a movie that can be watched multiple times. It doesn?t just exist to show how horrible the event was, or to bring out emotions; and really, its all the stronger for it. |

The Fall (2006, R)
Amazing! The Fall spends two hours dazzling the mind, while holding a very simple story, that is both fantastic and believable. Roy's story kind of reminded me of the Wizard of Oz, in that everything was similar to circumstances around the hostipal or his personal life, and the same with the imagry provided by the little patient. |

Sunshine Cleaning (2009, R)
Sunshine Cleaning is hands down one of the best films of the year-so far anyway. I absolutely loved it. It has the quirky dysfunctional charm of films like Juno or Little Miss Sunshine, but it also has the gritty realistic edge like Frozen River or Junebug. Sunshine Cleaning wasn't as peppy and funny as i had thought it would be; but that wasn't a bad thing at all. There is a lot of very good bleak, deadpan emotional drama, and that is essentially what keeps the film going. The off-color quirks are more of a side note. |

Away We Go (2009, R)
Beautiful, charming, quirky, and funny! Maybe a bit on the sticky sweet side but it really is fantastic. Its so optimistic and peaceful. John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph play a type of lovers that are very rarely shown on screen. I had really wanted to see this since it first came out, and really was not disappointed at all. In fact, it was more entertaining that I expected. |

Revolutionary Road (2008, R)
Really a great movie. Kate Winslet and Leonardo DeCaprio gave stunning performances. Its pretty much a page-to-page adaption of Richard Yates book- which really doesn't happen all that often. I do not remember anything from the book that wasn't in the movie, nor was anything added (that i remember) The only thing i didn't really like about it is the ending. Nothing is really resolved, and i'm not totally sure what you are suppose to fell as an audience after fiinishing it. Its an intense, emotional film up to that point, but then it kind of dies. Still, its lush, well scripted, and engaging to watch, even if it is kind of depressing... =\ |

Passengers (2008, PG-13)
I really liked Passengers quite a bit. It really was not very interesting or exciting as a thriller but it was still pretty good. Anne Hathaway gave a good performance, and i liked the way it looked. The color pallette mostly stuck to black, white, and gray. There were several twists in the storyline, which i liked, and you really didn't know completely what was going on until the end. Pretty bleak. It reminded me alot of M. Night Shylaman's style. I probably wouldn't watch it again, but it was enjoyable enough to watch once. |
|
| 51 |
What Just Happened? (2008, R)
I thought this was going to be really good, and it really wasn't. It wasn't was i was expecting at all. I was under the impression that Kristin Stewart and Sean Penn had fairly major roles, but they each just had a couple scenes. Idk, i could have missed something, probably something major, but it just wasn't that great. |
|
| 52 |
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004, R) |
|
| 53 |
Frozen River (2008, R)
Great movie. Its harsh, sad, and seems very real while your watching it. At first i was really wondering why Melissa Leo was nominated for the Best Actress Oscar, but the thing is she really IS the role. She is completely convincing as this desperate mother so that you fail to realize that she is an actress portaying a role. Its really engrossing to watch. Really, its great all around. |

I really thought this was going to be good, but it just wasn't. There is no way around it. I actually only watched 20 minutes or so of it, so its possible there was something in the rest of it that would change my mind completely. But what i watched of Peaceful Warrior was a lame cliched mess that was mostly a sports drama with a new-age edge. I really didn't care for it at all. |

The Cake Eaters (2007, R)
The Cake Eaters is absolutely brilliant! I"m kind of surprised that is hasn't been more popular, esp since Kristen Stewart is in it. I think part of what i liked so much about it was that the main two characters are so innocent and lovable. You have a sympathy for them that you do not have for the characters in films like Juno, Dan In Real Life, or Junebug-which share the same dysfunctional family theme. Kristen Stewart gives, hands down, her best performacne yet. Usually she plays some kind of moody, brooding teenager, but she adds so much more to that here; and then when you add in the fact that she's dying, its really memorible and incredible. I had never come acrost Aaron Stanford-that i remember, but i really liked him. The Cake Eater's is also the perfect length. There was nothing concerning cake in the entire film though, so that kind of confused me, but it doesn't really matter. The story is told completely and efficiently, but it isn't drawn out. It also has a "happily ever after" ending, which normally is a bit of a turn-off for me, but its actually pretty cute. So The Cake Eaters is definately a memorible and remarkible feat. |

Thirteen (2003, R)
Wow, i loved it. Great story, feel, cast. Pretty much everything is remarkable. Its kind of funny that Vanessa Hudgens was in it, but this would be pre High School Musical days. There are kind of some echo of Twilight in it. Which makes sense considering its the same director, but it still kind of surprised me. I hadn't expected it. |

Bottle Shock (2008, PG-13)
This should have been brilliant, but everything just didn't come together very well. The story was good, the script was fairly clever, and Alan Rickman was splendid, but overall the movie just wasn't that great. It kind of seemed like Bottle Shock was trying to tap into the style of films like Little Miss Sunshine or King of California, but it really didn't succeed. Its not horrible, by any means, just fairly disappointing. |
|
| 78 |
Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day (2008, PG-13)
Fantastic, brilliant film! One of the best i've seen in a wile. Its not realistic at all, and the performaces-are really good-but a bit over the top theatrically. Still, its extreamely funny and entertaining. Lee Pace and Amy Adams are great together-though Adams kind of reminded me of Satine from Moulin Rouge... =\ I also liked how it all took place within a day. That was a really nice touch. |
|
| 79 |
Sixty Six (2006, PG-13) |
|
| 80 |
Junebug (2005, R)
AMY ADAMS IS HUGE AND PREGNANT! Thats really the most memorible thing about Junebug. Still, i liked it quite a bit and i'm not totally sure why. Its alot like Juno or Little Miss Sunshine, but its not as quirky and fun, its actually pretty deadpan. The characters are off beat, but their believible, and almost too real. They hit close enough to home that they lose their comic edge. Still, its good. Just not fantastic. |
|
| 81 |
The Secret Life of Bees (2008, PG-13)
Mmmm, it was pretty decent. It followed the book very closly. Its just not that memoralble of a film. But its a fairly engaging, well acted drama. I had kind of forgotten how much of a powerhouse actress Dakato Fanning is. She really held up alot of the film. Its certainly not a second watcher, but it really isn't terrible either. |
|
| 82 |
The Importance of Being Earnest (2002, PG) |
|
| 83 |
Låt den Rätte Komma In (Let the Right One in) (2008, R)
I thought that this was going to be really good, but i was pretty apathetic about it. I like the idea of the storyline, and even the storyline, whch is much more realistic than say Twilight. Idk, it just didn't completely win me over, and i have no idea why. I think it would have been quite a bit better in the hands of someone like Guillermo Del Toro. I still want to read the book though, but i haven't been able to find a copy at any libraries. Its says on the case that it is a International Bestseller, but i've only seen a copy at one indepentant bookstore one time, so i kind of question this...... |
|
| 84 |
Man on Wire (2008, PG-13)
The one and only complaint I have with this film is that its too long. It kind of dies after the first half-hour. Other than that it was incredible. I am kind of surprised that it is the Best Reviewed Film Of All Time- okay so maybe i shouldn't have used the capitals- but anyway it just seems that some stuck up critic would have proclaimed that it was dull or overly artistic or even inartistic who knows. I wouldn't ever watch it again, but it really is beautiful, engrossing, and fasinating. At first. |
|
| 85 |
Trainspotting (1996, R)
oooooooooh, I love it! Trainstoptting is really strange of offcolor in a way that is differant from anything else i have ever watched. Its really ingenuis and clever in the way it was fiilmed, but it really isn't what i would call a visual film. Ewan McGregor is absolutely brilliant. His work here is probably the best i've seen from him. The story itself kind of reminded me of Fight Club or A Clockwork Orange. Trainspotting really does not get under your skin emotionally, and that really is the film's only weakness. Otherwise, its funny, rebellious, completely imoral, and deffinately worth watching. =] |
|
| 86 |
Grey Gardens (2009, Unrated)
This really wasn't very good. I gave it three stars only because i wasn't paying all that much attention to it, so it really could have been iteresting and i just missed it. The parts where They are older were fairly interesting, but the acting just wasn't very good. Drew Barrymore looks way too old for her role most of the time. Idk, i thought it was going to be more about fun eccentric old women than it was. Still, it wasn't altogether terrible. |
|
| 87 |
What Goes Up (2009, Unrated)
What goes up just falls short of being a good and memorible film. It really has the potential to be great, but it never picks up on it. There are no major flaws with What Goes Up, and there is alot of notable work; but it does nothing to endear itself to you. The story is fun and quirky but it isn't really that believible. The only thing i didn't like is that it is too long. It really would be better if it was shorter. Still, it was enjoyible enough to watch once. |
|
| 88 |
Burn After Reading (2008, R)
Absolutely Brilliant! The characters are quirky and fun, and really hold up most of the film. The story itself is okay, but it isn't what makes Burn After Reading great. I loved it. Its probably the best comedy i've seen since Happy-Go-Lucky. All of the cast gave extraordinary performances, but Tilda Swinton and Brad Pitt were especially good. |
|
| 89 |
I Am Sam (2002, PG-13)
Overall, i thought this was pretty decent to fairly good. Sean Penn is extraordinary and totally confincing. The only thing i really didn't like is the whole contrived nature of the thing. It kept the film from feeling real at all. If it hadn't been for that it would have been really good. Its still a lot better and not nearly as irritating as Changeling. Dakota Fanning looked so little and cute! I really liked how the Beatles music was in it too, but it just failed to really be that great. It is just far to manipulitive and contrived. |
|
| 90 |
Entre les Murs (The Class) (2008, PG-13)
The Class has an extreamely simple story, and almost no plot. However, its really, really compelling and enthralling to watch. Its more of an experience to watch it than i ever would have expected. I think it would probably be really dull a second time, but it is really good and fasinating to watch. |
|
| 91 |
The Reader (2008, R) |
|
| 92 |
Scoop (2006, PG-13)
Well, Scoop is really predictible but that is really its only weakness. It really fantastic. Its dark and witty and hilarious. I thought Scarlett Johansson's character was kind of annoying at first, but she got better as the movie went on. The whole thing kind of reminded me of the style of 'classic' movies; just like with how it wasn't that believible, and was quirky, and even the general plot reminded of like a Cary Grant movie or something. Idk. Anyway it was good. |
|
| 93 |
Rudo y Cursi (2009, R)
Fantastic film! I loved it. The story is kind of predicible, but only in the big picture. There were lots of smaller details that completely caught me by surprise. I really like both Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, and they both give pretty good performances. I actually didn't realize that Guilermo Del Toro or Alfonso Cuaron were involved with it until the closing credits, but that was a pleasent surprise. It really is more of a fansiful and a realistic film. But there characters are convincing and believible. I really have no complaints with Rudo Y Curse at all. =] |
|
| 94 |
The Constant Gardener (2005, R) |
|
| 95 |
Enchanted April (1992, PG) |
|
| 96 |
My Left Foot (1989, R)
I was absolutely enthralled and captivated with this movie. The acting is extraordinary, and even though the story isn't nessesary that complex or compelling its fasinating to watch. Also, the characters all have problems, which i liked. It seems like far too often there are the 'good' characters and then the 'bad' ones, which really isn't acurate in this type of a story. Everybody makes mistakes, and even those who generally cause trouble can be helpful at times; and its really all a matter of perspective anyway. But anyway, but to Christy Brown. I also liked the way the story was told through the art and flashbacks as the nurse was reading the book My Left Foot. All of the characters were fully realized and three dimentional. I really have no complaints with it at all. |
|
| 97 |
Bride and Prejudice (2004, PG-13) |
|
| 98 |
Brideshead Revisited (2008, PG-13)
I really enjoyed this very much. I have no idea how it compares to the old BBC series, but the film was well composed and easy to follow. It was kind of odd seeing Dumbledore and Professor Trelawney from Harry Potter playing British Aristocrats. All of the acting was amazing, and Brideshead manor itself was pretty stunning. As a romance it really wasn?t all that remarkable. Bella and Edward, Benjamin Button and Daisy, and even Wall-E and Eve made far more interesting lovers than any of those played here. However, in the big picture Brideshead Revisited is well worth watching. |

The Great Buck Howard (2009, PG)
This film is made up of plot devices and tacky antics that i would usually scorn, but somehow i really liked The Great Buck Howard. First off, its incredibly cheap and tacky, and actually it kind of revels in it. Its not believible in any way either, despite the presense of Martha Stewart, Jay Leno, and others. The characters were all kind of flat, and exsisted only too fullfull their meger roles. Still, I liked it. It amused and entertained me. So, we'lll leave it at that. |

In the Electric Mist (2009, R)
This was frankly pretty awful. The only really good thing i can say about it is that the story really was pretty decent. Everything else is terrible. Its tacky visually, has a clunky script, and looks fairly amatuerish in the way it was filmed. If i had to guess i would say that it was a really close adaptaion from the book In The Electric Mist of the something..... just from the way it watched. So, maybe if you've read the book it would be better. |

Bart Got a Room (2009, PG-13)
Decent teen film. There isn't anything particuarly memorible here. Bart Got A Room is predictible and contrived, but not terrible overall. Its still kind of funny and clever in parts. THe length was nice and the cast gave decent performances even though i had never heard of any of them.It really is a tacky and hokey movie, but somehow i did kind of like it. I would never watch it again, but its engaging enough for one go around. |

12 (2007, PG-13)
12 is hands down one of the best films I?ve seen in ages. I absolutely loved it. It shares the same generally plotline as 12 Angry Men which is one of the only "classic" films I admire all that much. 12, however, is masterful is so many ways visually and in other technical ways which 12 Angry Men was not. 12 has a really good script, acting, and direction, but a good deal of its greatness comes from its visual style and feel. Its organic and edgy, and at times almost has a vintage feel to it. Even though the story is definitely driven by the dialog, 12 is never boring to the eye with what your actually seeing. The sets and cinematography and such really are that good. Personally, I found to 12 to be every bit as good as Waltz With Bashir-which actually won the Academy Award for best foreign film. I also really liked the cover of the dvd- which I realize is really random, but its fantastic. Really, the only complaint I had is that it seemed like the characters were fairly stereotypical and cliched; but it really didn?t bother me because it wasn?t overpowering and it didn't effect the film all that much. |

Neverwas (2005, PG-13)
Fantastic film! I picked it up on an inpulse, and then was kind of skeptical when i actuallly started to watch it. The "offical" description and its presentation makes it look kind of dumb. Neverwas has a pretty notable cast with Ian McKellen, Judi Dench, Nick Nolte, and others, so i'm kind of surprised i had never heard of it. The story is really good, but i really can't describe it acurately. Its completely real, but completely fancifull at the same time. The only time i was really (almost) in disgust was at the end, when for a while it appears that Neverwas really is real; But its not, its only a state of mind. So, once that was clarified that improved things some for me. Even the 'real' parts of Neverwas have an almost overworldly look to them; and i liked that. |

Julia (2009, R)
I actually enjoyed Julia a lot. I had mostly picked it up because Tilda Swinton was in it-and she is absolutely magnificent-but i really wasn't expecting it to be that great. LIke Rudo Y Cursi or Junebug the characters are wonderfull and believible but the story itself is not. In the words of another reviewer its "complicated and over the top." Which it is, but its still good. I was temped in many parts to simply skip scenes, because the film really is long, and i'm not all that patient of a watcher. The main strength of the movie is Tilda Swinton. In many ways its her show, and she gives it enough life to make it worth watching, and really pretty good. |

Phoebe in Wonderland (2009, PG-13)
Wonderful, charming film. I really liked it a lot. Elle Fanning was really extraordinary. I wasn't that impressed with her in Benjamin Button, but she was really great here. Its really deals more with mood and the characters than a storyline and that is something i really admire. There are lots of refereances and quotes from Alice in Wonderland, and that alone would have hooked me. The only weakness in the entire thing is that at times the characters are a bit contrived and cliched. Its like they are just there to give a certain edge and character type to the work. But, really, its great and worth watching a time or two. |

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (2004, R)
I loved this movie. I really liked Michel Gondry's work in The Science of Sleep and this is really similar. Idk which was released first. The filming and story is innivative and wonderful. The cast is great with Elijah Wood, Kate Winslet, and Kristin Dunst. i usually hate JIm Carey but he is actually really good in this. I really disappointed that it took me so long to get around to watching it. Its very funny and gloriously trippy and about as good as movies come. |

The Informers (2009, R)
There is so much potential to The Informers, but it never manages to actually be that great. I really liked how the story was made up of various plotlines and characters that intertwined together. In the beginining parts the acting/script was awful, but i didn't notice it as much as the film went on. So, it either improved or I just grew used to it. Idk. I've never read the book, but i really liked Bret Easton Ellis' American Physco, and this is really pretty similar. The eighties style takes a little getting used to. Overall, it really was enjoyible enough, but it just wasn't good enough to be great. |

Sugar (2008, R)
I am generally not all that fond of sports movie. I do not play sports or watch them, so i really see no reason why it would be enjoyable to watch them onscrren in a movie. But anyway, i liked this alot. It sparkles with an optimistic view of humanity and the world. I also kind of *HAD* to watch it because parts of it were filmed locally and a friend of mine was an extra in it (I couldn't find him though =\). Anywho, its really pretty good. |

In the Valley of Elah (2007, R)
Within the first 15 minutes i realized that this wasn't meant for me in any way, and it didn't improve throughout the entire thing. Certainly the type of film I would stereotype as an :"old man movie," And i do not really mean that in a cruel way. Its just that that seems like it would be the ideal audience for this movie. |

Sunshine (2007, R)
Pretty fantastic movie. Its probably the best sci-fi movie i've ever seen. Its really visual and the characters themselves were very real and believible. The only members of the cast that i was familiar with were Michelle Yeoh (who was probably my fav) and Chris Evens. Sunshine is freaky and intense even though it has a pretty far fetched plot. The story probably wasn't all that original, but it is completely mesmorizing. Really, a surprise masterpiece. |

Adventureland (2009, R)
Well, overall i liked this a lot. Buuuut every single character (with the exception of Kristen Stewart) absolutely sucked! >_< They were all terrible. But, Kristen Stewart and cool, and some depth and a bit of believible personallity. I really liked the whole idea of Adventureland though. Its pretty cute, kind of melocholy, and kind of funny. Had it not been for the characters i would have liked it alot more. But it was still really good. and worth watching. |

The Duchess (2008, PG-13)
Surprisingly good movie. I am usually not all that fond of period movies; but the duchess is pretty good. It starts out kind of choppy, but it gets better as it goes on. I was surprised at how visual it was. Usually these types of films really are not. Keira Knightley was really good. She looked old though. idk how old she is, but she really looked old enough to be portraying a mother-which she was- as oppsed to say a character like Cecilia in Atonement. I usually like Ralph Fiennes quite a lot, but he is kind of stale and dull here. Really, it was all around a good film. |

Terra (Battle For Terra) (2009, PG)
The animation of Battle for Terra is really vibrant and ambitious, and the idea of the story is good, but overall it really wasn't that fantastic. The dialog was the main thing that held it back. It was terrible, and really drew away from the beauty of the rest of the film. It really had the potential to be something unique and haunting, but it ended up being almost just being a cross between The Little Mermaid and Wall-E. Don't get me wrong, i liked it, and didn't regret watching it; but it could have been so much better. Any a lot of ways it is almost a cautionary tale, like The Lorax, or The Spider and the Fly, but then it had a happy ending, which kind of kills that theory. But really, its pretty decent. |

Half Nelson (2006, R)
I really liked Half Nelson a lot. Ryan Gosling is always good, and actually he was the only cast member i recognized. The characters and the idea of the story were really good, but it wasn't all that engaging to watch. Also, my dvd kept speeding up, so the dialog was uber fast XD Still, it was a great movie. |

I really like movies like this that pretty much exclusively concentrate on the characters themselves. At first they seem really dystfunctional, but as you watch they really become very human. Their reactions seem very extreame and unrational, but at the same time i think anyone can totally understand and relate to whats going on. I guess i can see where its not for everyone, but i really thought it was great. |

Easy Virtue (2009, PG-13)One of the funniest movies I have seen in a while. The characters and story are deffinately more theatrical than realistic or provogitive, but that is really the films only weakness. Its hilarious and historical but still stylish at the same time. It seems like a lot of period films end up being overly historical. Easy Virtue still has charm and life, and can be grasped, even though its obviously historical in setting. I was not at all impressed with Ben Barnes in Prince Caspian, but he was pretty good here. Kristen Scott Thomas is absolutely brilliant as always. While not really a masterpiece, Easy Virtue is still very entertaining and marvelous. |

Valentino: The Last Emperor (2009, PG-13)
Probably the best thing about Valentino: The Last Emperor is that is does not watch like a documentary. It still has a story and progression. Valentino himself seems like a really difficult person, but still interesting. Personally, I thought it died a bit towards that middle, but the ending was really good. It was kind of funny to see Anne Hathaway, Sarah Jessica Parker, and other celebs at the 45th Aniversary Party. It would have been nice to see more of his older work, but i see where they would not have worked. Really, a engrossing and fasinating movie to watch. |

The Brothers Bloom (2009, PG-13)
I absolutely loved The Brothers Bloom. Its hilarious, clever, qiurky, and fun. The style of it kind of reminded me of the television show Pushing Daisies. The acting was great. I really like both Adrien Brody and Rachel Wiez. Bang Bang was probably the best character though. Overall, the story was kind of predictible, but there were still a few parts that caught me by surprise. Its a bit like Duplicity or Get Smart, but its so, so much better. Really, a great movie all around. |

I had extreamely high hopes for this movie, and it was very good but also slightly disappointing. It is not nearly as surreal as the trailer made it appear. However, I do want to see some of Diane Arbus' photography after watching it. Nicole Kidman and Robert Downey Jr. both gave incredible performances. So, it really is good. It just could have been much better. |

Very, very good movie. Its surprisingly dark and gritty for a Woody Allen movie. I guess i have always considered his work to be fairly sunny. Its almost a bit of a cautionary tale, which was is a faiirly unusual take, and i liked it. I really like Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell, and they are both really good here. I totally didn't realize that Saally Hawkins was Poppy in Happy-Go-Lucky until just now.... >_< Anywho, its really a well done and fasinating movie. |

Silk (2007, R)
I thought Silk was going to be very good, but it really wasn't. It was decent, just not that memorible or remarkible. The story concentrates far more on plot development than it does on the characters themselves. The script itself it pretty poetic, but it doesn't seem real. You cannot reach out and touch any of the characters at all. Silk reminded me alot of the Painted Veil, but the second is much better. Even the scores of the two films are similiar. So, certainly not awful, just not that great. |

Shrink (2009, R)
This was better than i had expected. Idk, it was good, but there really isn't much to say about it. The acting was all good, and the story managed to be both emotional and kind of humorous at the same time. In parts its kind of boring, but that is really the only weakness. So, it worth a go, but at the same time you haven't missed much if you skip it. |

Deep Water (2006, PG)
This was actually pretty boring. It just kept going on and on. However, I am not much of a documentary watcher, so i am sure that makes a differance. I mostly watched it because Tilda Swintom narrated it, but she really didn't do much. Most of it is made up of interviews. It really isn't terrible, but you wouldn't be any worse off if you never see it. |

Management is charming and sticky sweet, but what really makes it memorible and notable is the relationship between Mike and Sue. Its quirky and innocent, touching, and slightly dysfunctional. Its really the only reason to watch it. The score/sountrack was great, but other than that it was kind of tacky visually. The actual "jokes" were fairly poor too, but they were mostly towards the end. The first hour or so really is very good. Idk it just didn't seem like it very well put together. Its was almost as if there was a switch midway in the style. But really, overall its good, and worth watching. |

American Violet (2009, PG-13)
I was surprised at how good this is. Usually these type of films tend to be fairly cliched and contrived-see I Am Sam. It was really pretty strong and gripping. You still care about the characters even though its obvious were its going. I always find it interesting, though, when these "Based on True Events" movies seem less realistic than complete fiction. Seriously though, these do not seem like real people at all. The situations are plausible enough, but it all seems awfully idealistc. Really, its well composed and compelling to watch, and just better all around than i would have expected. |

I had kind of assumed that "The Curse of the Were-Rabbit" would be the final Wallace and Gromit. I just didn't see how it could be topped, and it really isn't. A Matter of Loaf and Death just feels short and condensed. It more macabre than the previous ones though, and that is something i liked. Idk, I certainly liked it, but it really is not on par with the previous Wallace and Gromits. |

Adaptation (2002, R)
There really is no way to accurately describe this movie. It really does not fit in any one box or genre. However, its rather good, and counts for something. I liked the stoyline a lot. Its mixed up and off-color. There are also a lot of lyrical monologues, which i found fairly impressive. I was blown away by Jonzes work in Where the Wild Things Are, and this is very much the same. I am not a fan of Nicolas Cage at all, but he is almost watchable here. I wish Tilda Swinton would have had more screen time though. Really, Adaptation is a fasinating, surreal, and immaginative piece that is deffinately worth some attention. |
