Rescue Dawn (2007, PG-13)
Very good movie. you get invested in the characters and their escape. Bale is such a good actor. He is extremely versatile,he really dives into his characters. Him and Steve Zahn were a good pair up in my opinion.Even though almost all of the supporting cast doesn't speak English and you don't really get to know the bad guys (which gives a rather realistic look on war) Rescue Dawn is still very moving and shocking. It's defintely worth the watch! |

Apocalypse Now (1979, R)
Nothing short of Amazing.I felt I owed this to my Dad who was in the Marine Corps. He was a Gunnery Sargent forever. He served in Both Korea and the Vietnam wars.He is still alive and ticking and got all his wits about him. After seeing as many war movies as I have I don't see how this man is still as intact as he seems.Anyway He is my hero always will be PERIOD.This movie was spine chilling.I loved it from minute one.Gosh the cast was not only stellar, but dam they were so young.I just don't know what else to say but dam if you haven't seen this one yet you owe it to yourself to do so.It really is something very special. |

The Deer Hunter (1978, R)
Good Lord,How excellent is this movie!!??. I remembered things about half way through it and realized I had watched this as a child.HELLO.WTF were my parents think9ing?Anyway such a tremendous cast.God I love Christopher Walken,he is just smooth as hell, and dammmm diddy damm De Niro looks HOT with a beard.Anyway Excellent yet very emotional story of a great group of friends from a small town and the way the Vietnam war changed everything about them.Excellent movie,I can't give this anymore stars,I wish I could. If you have not seen this you need too.=) |

Hotaru no haka (Grave of the Fireflies) (1988, Unrated)
Absolutely Heartwrenching! I am so glad that you guys send me your recommendations.I would have never ever known about this wonderful movie without having my Flix buddies.Have the tissues ready was right (Alex) lol.Oh my gosh this is so sad.I was ready for sad,not ready ready for a gut-wrenching overflow of tears.A story about a boy that is forced into a parent role of his little (adorable) sister Setsuko due to the death of his parents. He does everything he can for her,but is so young himself, just does not have the life skills,or means to do anything.Through the many bombings they had lost everything it was pretty much the 2 of them with a few stray belongings. But his love for her was fierce, she was all he had left.I don't want to say too much more, but this is such a deep, touching movie everyone should see this.I absolutely recommend this movie be the very next one you see!! =) |

Empire of the Sun (1987, PG)
Another amazing movie I have let slip by for way too long.I have been on this whole Christiian Bale thing lately,so I wanted to see how his acting skills were when he was a boy.OMG! He was BORN to act. This boy is absolutely brilliant in anything he does. This is an amazing journey of a young boy, separated from his parents in the middle of WWII and forced to survive basically however he can.I had no idea that he would bump into of all people John Malkovich one of my fav actors that was a huge bonus!Oh,and a very young, and not in comedic role,Ben Stiller. The cast was Great,Christian again,Wow he is just mindblowing,he is really a natural,I hope he goes oin making lots of movies for us to enjoy for many years. If you have not seen this movie I highly recommend it! =) |

The Hurt Locker (2009, R)
Very intense,Great action,Great cast. You will be glued to your seat through this story about a team of soldiers that doesn't have long left to serve in Iraq,if they can just survive their remaining few days.Lots of tests and crazy things come their way that I am 200% sure our soldiers are facing every single day.The story kind of centers around this one guy that disarms bombs,As always I want to be highly respectful to those that have not seen this and not give all the goodies away. But this one is definitely a recommendation.See it!! =) |

I must agree with the other 'Flixters' - why "Cold Mountain"? If you were to include a movie documenting the American Civil War, why not "Glory"? Albeit, if you haven't seen "All Quiet On The Western Front" (either version), or "The Tuskegee Airmen", you may be pursuaded to include them in your list, which is impressive.

suggestion for a great movie, " Farewell to the King" starring Nick Nolte. it wasn't considered a great movie at the time it was released, but i believe it is one of those movies that was overshadowed by promoted movies. I like it, and i hope you will give it a try. If you cant find it let me know.
