Heart wrenching, heart breaking
Got myself a little(ok sometimes a lot!!!) teary-eyed in a theater. Men are guilty too and no, its not just something in their eyes!!

Kramer vs. Kramer (1979, PG)
Hoffman + Streep = Academy awards success. My favourite thespians. This movie is 30 years old and I have watch it countless times. My favourite scene till today is still little Billy and Ted Kramer during the dinner/ice cream part where Billy challenges his father by skipping dinner and going straight for dessert. Definitely a 4.5 stars drama. |

The Killing Fields (1984, R)
Dr. Haing S Ngor dominates this movie. Apparently he had never acted before. It tells the true story of Dith Pran, played by Cambodian survivor Haing S. Ngor, and his journey to escape the Khmer Rouge death camps which is an awful moment in human history. A movie that it is not easy to watch. Brutal and honest , the scene at the French embassy was the hardest to bear. My only gripe was that during certain scenes, the translation was poor some subtitles would have been much appreciated |

Not Without My Daughter (1991, PG-13)
I cringed to think how were the people's response/reactions to this film as it was released during the height of Persian Gulf War. I understand that this was based on a true story, Betty Mahmood's story. Some claimed that it was completely one sided, that it was being overly manipulative at times I personally found this to be a powerful film about culture clashes that is terrifying real. The lead,Sally Field delivers a first-rate performance and kept me riveted to the screen, praying for her escape, felt her frustrations and celebrating her triumph |

Titanic (1997, PG-13)
The Titanic. Unsinkable, it was claimed until an iceberg changed everything. I don t think I will ever get bored of this movie. When it came out in 1997, I saw it for the very 1st time, I was in awe. Still am. The cinematography and the special effects kept me riveted. It gives you the feeling of almost being there on the ship itself. A visual grandeur indeed. The 2 leads were superb, amazing chemistry. To date, my favourite scene is where L.DeCaprio and Kate Winslet flying at the ship's front. The sinking of the great ship is no secret and certain scenes were so hauntingly sad .Every creak and groan of the ship was audible when watching it on a good quality DVD. |

Antwone Fisher (2002, PG-13)
Curious about Denzel 's directing debut and he starred in it as well, I decided to watch this. It is from an adaption of the book Finding Fish, based on the remarkable true memoirs of Antwone Fisher. This is truly a heartfelt story, the story of obstacles overcome. with impressive acting from Derek Luke. It is extremely difficult to remain dry eyed for long. A movie that I will not forget easily and a salute is in order. |

House of Sand and Fog (2003, R)
Ben Kingsley is superb in the movie, he dominates the screen as an Iranian colonel trying to maintain order in his life in America. Connelly was pretty impressive too even though I don t quite like her character in this film. Portrayed here as a depressed weakling and I couldnt master a single shred of sympathy for her, she could have save herself a whole load of trouble if she had bothered to open her mails. . The story is sad and poignant, a tragedy of shattered dreams. |

Monster (2003, R)
I did not see Charlize Theron, instead I saw Aileen Wuornos. I was disturbed and yet completely riveted with this movie. Aileen is a serial killer, a ruined soul and yet you would end up feeling sympathetic. It's depressing engaging, engrossing, and realistic. After that, I needed a silly comedy to lighten up. |

Away from Her (2007, PG-13)
This movie sparkles. It is a remarkable debut by young director Sarah Polley and what a fantastic direction from her. Julie Christie is luminous in this role as a woman in the early stages of Alzheimer. Gordon Pinsent plays the devoted husband of almost 50 years who experiences the pain of seeing his beloved Fiona decay mentally. A truly memorable gem. |

The End of the Affair (1999, R)
Two very gifted stars brought Graham Greene's novel to life. Also masterfully constructed by writer-director Neil Jordan. Ralph Fiennes has a face made to make period pictures, he plays a brooding novelist who loves Moore 's character with an obsessive passion and Moore was perfect, gave a heartfelt performance of a woman trapped in a loveless marriage. The film is set in London in the early 1940s, wonderful cinematography. A truly sad, beautiful and passionate story not to be missed. |

My Sister's Keeper (2009, PG-13)
An adaptation of Jodi Picoult's bestseller. I do prefer the novel and was disappointed with the dramatic change with the ending. Though it differs from the book, parts of the movie is still heartbreaking. |
