Halloween
A Classic that has been tainted over the years. Quite possibly the greatest horror movie ever made.
2
Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens (Nosferatu, a Symphony of Horror) (Nosferatu the Vampire) (1922,  Unrated)
Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens (Nosferatu, a Symphony of Horror) (Nosferatu the Vampire)
Better than Lugosi's Dracula. This one's actually scary...even today.
3
Seven (Se7en) (1995,  R)
Seven (Se7en)
Top-notch script and superb thrills. A Great detective story with an intense creepy atmosphere. David Fincher is a genius.
4
The Haunting (1963,  Unrated)
The Haunting
Terrifying without showing you anything. A dark and creepy atmospheric chiller and the best haunted house movie out there.
5
The Descent (2006,  R)
The Descent
This is one of the scariest movies in recent memory. The imagery is hellish, the creepy music adds to much of the tension and sets looks like they were designed by Gustov Dore. It is does what horror movies don't do anymore...scare the living sh** out of you.
6
Salem's Lot (1979,  PG)
Salem's Lot
This movie is so damn scary it's ridiculous. Filled with tons of fully fleshed out characters and a great story. It's a haunted house movie and a vampire movie that mesh perfectly together. This is the scariest TV movie ever made. Barlow gives me the creeps. See the full 184 min. version not the butchered 120 min. version.
7
Låt den Rätte Komma In (Let the Right One in) (2008,  R)
Låt den Rätte Komma In (Let the Right One in)

Scream (1996,  R)
Scream
One of the smartest slasher films I've seen. The opening sequence is scary and brilliant.

Evil Dead 2 (1987,  R)
Evil Dead 2
The best of the Evil Dead trilogy, it's silly but this time, that's the point. It has a great balance of camp and horror.

Bram Stoker's Dracula
The best adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel.
22
Rogue (Rogue Crocodile) (2008,  R)
Rogue (Rogue Crocodile)
The best movie of it's kind since Jaws. It gets pretty damn tense at times. The cinematography of the outback is gorgeous.
23
The Lost Boys (1987,  R)
The Lost Boys
One of Joel Schumacher's best films. A great modern take on the vampire mythos. Gets kinda cheesy and weak in the final battle, but overall it's very good. "Cry Little Sister" is an outstanding song.
24
The Mist (2007,  R)
The Mist
Aside from spotty acting and some mediocre special effects due to budget constraints, this is an excellent sci-fi/ horror film with an mesmerizing ending. The black & white version is even better!
25
1408 (2007,  PG-13)
1408
It's a very nice departure from recent "torture porn" horror movies that claim to be horror. The performances are good, the script is smart, the movie is well paced. One of the best Stephen King adaptations out there.
26
Pumpkinhead (1988,  R)
Pumpkinhead
Very cool monster movie with a well designed creature. Pumpkinhead Rocks!
27
Child's Play (1988,  R)
Child's Play
I think people have forgotten how good this movie was.
28
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984,  R)
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Excellent horror movie by Wes Craven, who delivered us a great horror iconic, Freddy Krueger play to perfection in here and all the movies by Robert Englund. Brought down a point for it's lazy ending.

A unique and original turn in the Nightmare series.

Ā l'intérieur (Inside)
Sick, creepy and unnerving thriller. An excellent twisted tale of carnage.
32
The Ring (2002,  PG-13)
The Ring
Eerie and scary. People who said they weren't scared the first time they saw it are lying.
33
Jaws (1975,  PG)
Jaws
A great movie that didn't need a franchise.
34
The Silence of the Lambs (1991,  R)
35
Session 9 (2001,  R)
Session 9
There is no monster. It's psychological and it works very well.
36
Frailty (2002,  R)
37
The Devil's Backbone (Espinazo del diablo, El) (2001,  R)
The Devil's Backbone (Espinazo del diablo, El)
Even though I prefer Pan's Labyrinth and The Orphanage (which Del Toro produced), I still find this to be a very good film with moments of extreme creepiness.

Constantine
Very well executed horror thriller.

Silent Hill
Video Game movie makers, take note. This is how it's done.

One of the few good video game adaptations out there. Great atmosphere, solid cast and the Licker looked really good and creepy.
