A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984,  R)
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Probably the most influential movie of my life. I was born in 83' and saw this movie as a very young boy, and had nightmares about Freddy for years to come after that.
Freddy Krueger has grown to become my favorite movie character of all time, mostly for scaring the begeezus out of me. Wes Craven, is the true "Master of Horror".

This movie fucking rocks! Hilarious! One of the best comedy/horror movies that I've seen, for sure. "Why won't you just play-play along??" Hahaha...

Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984,  R)
Silent Night, Deadly Night
First off.. You all should know that I am overrating this movie. It is far from being considered "good".. but it is very lovable. I love a movie that is able to combine humor and gore in a sort of harmonious blend, that almost puts one in a state of nirvana....

Yes, if you get off on gore.. you know exactly what I'm talking about. This movie is righteous on many levels. The premise of the story seems generic... but we have to remember that the only reason it does, is that it has been parodied many different times since 1984. The soundtrack is perfect 80's horror, what one would come to hope, and expect. A surprising lot of unnecessary nudity... which I can always appreciate. And some actual, well thought out gore scenes, that dare I say.. look pretty damn good for 80's technology.

I had a blast watching this, with as many laughs as deaths, and rides that line hard, between sickness and pleasure.

Dead and Breakfast (2005,  R)
Dead and Breakfast
Ha! An amazing horror flick. An original soundtrack that kicks ass, hilarious, and lots of blood. Overall, I would say, the best "dead" movie since Dead Alive.
7
House of 1000 Corpses (2003,  R)
8
Ginger Snaps (2001,  R)
9
Two Thousand Maniacs (1964,  Unrated)
Two Thousand Maniacs
I enjoyed this movie a lot. A pretty cool story about some confederate back woods people that celebrate their centennial by killing yankees. Some pretty gruesome deaths, horrible voice-overs, terrible acting.. The theme song is still stuck in my head... " ...oh the south is gonna rise up again!" An entertaining, gore-fest, with some laughable cheese.
10
Aswang (The Unearthing) (1994,  Unrated)
11
Saw II (2005,  R)
12
Re-Animator (1985,  R)
13
Dead Alive (Braindead) (1993,  R)
14
Cannibal Holocaust (1979,  NC-17)
15
Timber Falls (2007,  R)
Timber Falls
This film follows the basic "Deliverance" cookie-cutter style plot. Backwoods folks.. yadda yadda yadda... But I feel this movie has way more to offer. It is easily comparable to other movies that have been made in a similar fashion. (The Descent, The Hills Have Eyes, Wrong Turn, etc.) But those movies are shit in my eyes, now having seen "Timber Falls". It has a surprisingly nice build up in plot, a proper crescendo, if you will. A very well thought out movie, and is worth having an opinion on. My opinion is it was great.
16
Oldboy (2005,  R)
17
Dawn of the Dead (1979,  R)
18
Three...Extremes (Saam gaang yi) (2005,  R)
19
Teeth (2007,  R)
Teeth
Woa. This movie gets right up in your face. The premise of the story is perfect... a girl with a toothed vagina... well, what else do you do with a teethed vagina? Hmmm... So it's actually a pretty righteous feminist style movie. Wonderful casting, as well as acting. A highly entertaining watch.

Blood Sucking Freaks (Bloodsucking Freaks) (1976,  R)
Blood Sucking Freaks (Bloodsucking Freaks)
Welcome to Sardu's Theatre of the Macabre

"Tonight, we begin with torture."

I know there's got to be something wrong with me for rating this film so highly. But this is definitely the best Troma production I have seen, and one of the greatest gore movies out there. Period.

It's not just gore. It's a form of sick and deeply depraved art. It transcends what you think you might know about sadomasochism, and torture. Although very fun, and campy as hell, this film touches on some very dark ideas. The acting in Troma films is always notoriously bad, and quite laughable at times, yet it seemed to work extremely well in this case. Some of the best campy-horror dialogue around, I guarantee.

"Her mouth will make an interesting urinal.."

I've seen a few Herschel Gordon Lewis films, and have really enjoyed those. For those of you familiar, a lot of this film is based on HGL's "Wizard of Gore". I feel I am unable to put it in proper perspective not having seen the film that provides precedence to the "Bloodsucking Freaks", yet I still feel confident raving about this movie. I was honestly impressed. You will notice also in viewing this film, that it has helped pave the way, and provide inspiration for a lot of newer gore movies that all the kids enjoy these days.

If you're in the mood for something over-the-top, with some creative gore sequences, and you are for some reason in the mood to be deeply disturbed, then go for it!

They don't make 'em like this any more.

Spider Baby, or The Maddest Story Ever Told (Attack of the Liver Eaters)
Some fantastic b-horror flavor in this movie. I thought it was downright hilarious as well. I can't believe how young Sid Haig is in this film, and how awesome his non-verbal role was. I was just altogether surprised at how well this movie was put together. And I would definitely recommend this flick to anyone trying to broaden their horizons in the horror genre.

Blood Moon (2001,  Unrated)
Blood Moon
So this is probably the most creative story ever written about a werewolf. I made my brother watch this one with me, and he was pissed, because it wasn't in typical "werewolf" format. Personally, I think it is one of the better ones available. Tim Curry was awesome, there couldn't have been a better cast. The songs written for the Freak Show were all original, and very smart yet catchy. Victoria Sanchez is amazing, and really pulls off the sexy werewolf look too well. This is a wonderful movie. Recommended for anyone that digs werewolves.

Event Horizon (1997,  R)

Suicide Club (2002,  Unrated)
Suicide Club
Yummy, bloody, Japanese schoolgirls. Human flesh cinnamon-rolls. This movie just warms up the soul.

Surprisingly well thought-out, considering this film had obvious budget constraints. Very smartly planned and executed sequences. I had been curious since reading the synopsis, how they would pull off showing 54 schoolgirls getting hit by an oncoming train. Something that I'm sure was very tricky to pull off.

The idea for this film seems completely absurd. For Japanese horror, however, nothing new. Especially nothing new as of late, considering how much fake blood has been spilled in Japan in the last decade. I felt myself making connotations to middle school, and high school, when kids did the stupidest shit to fit in. It wasn't so much about fitting in, as you will find by watching... but definitely follows your mother's old saying: "If all of your friends jumped off a cliff, would you jump too?" And the answer is yes. This is Suicide Club, bitch.

I enjoyed seeing the story from the side of the detectives, in a way, oblivious to what was happening. Surprisingly intense, and suspenseful plot build.

I found many of frames to be quite artistic... very decent photography overall.

My favorite moment would have to be with the character of Genesis. Who is a Japanese version of Tim Curry (Rocky Horror) spliced with David Bowie (Ziggy, Labyrinth). "I've always had delusions of grandeur since a child..."

This film, sick and absurd as it may be, connected to me on a deep level. The main idea is not just how teenagers will follow a trend until the end, literally. Or how influential and powerful the force of the youth can be; this is also very much about the idea of life more simplistically. This is explained to us by the young girl, or mastermind, who tells us how our souls and spirits are still connected to this worldly realm, even after our bodies die. However, that also, our true life begins in death. Boiled down so simplistically by the pop group depicted in this film, "Dessert"... and their song "Jigsaw"..... playfully singing: "life is just a jigsaw puzzle...." Maybe speaking of how the actual saw cuts the pieces to the puzzle is an even more simplistic way of chopping it down. True life is achieved in death. Maybe that is a more concise way of looking at this seemingly 1-layered meaning.

This movie, above all, was highly entertaining. Recommended to anyone at all looking for an Asian Horror fix.

"There's no Suicide Club you know...." anyone in the club officially, is dead, therefore making the club non-existent.
