28 Weeks Later... (2007, R)

An American Werewolf in London (1981, R)
I've wanted to see this film since so long and I finally did this year. I had no expectations and I guess that's what made me like it so much. The script is excellent, the cast also and it's quite scary too. The special effects are great for the 80s and it's still look great nowadays. A new favorite of mine in terms of horror. |

Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006, R)
The documentary-like style was very effective, I really felt like they were making the portrait of a serial killer. It felt so surrealist until the action starts (and by that I mean when Leslie starts to kill). Some moments were very funny, Leslie seemed like a nice guy at first. It was quite original I must admit but I didn't like the ending that much. |

Cabin Fever (2002, R)
i enjoyed the fact that this time there was no killer or psychopath chasing after the protagonists. and it's not only an horror film but also a comedy. there were many parts where i couldn't stop laughing... like the stupidity of burt's character or even the end is hilarious. i think it wasn't that bad for a first film by eli roth; it was even better than hostel. be prepared for some gruesome parts! |

Calvaire (The Ordeal) (2006, Unrated) |

| 25 |
Candyman (1992, R)
For a film made in the 90s, I was quite impressed. It's very gory and I also made a few jumps because I was surprised. It's scary, but not at the point of being scared in front of a mirror. Virgina Madsen shows a lot of talent and emotions in her role which made the story a lot more realistic. All in all, an enjoyable horror film but don't expect too much from it. |

Carrie (1976, R)
Okay. So the story is really interesting... The fact that Carrie's mom is such a Jesus freak and that she was raised by her, of course she became a little nut herself. Sissy Spacek is really acting well, and she's very scary-looking at the end with her eyes wide opened! But for the scary factor, that's about it. The rest is not. It's just a sad story about a young bullied girl. Still, it's a must see. |

Cloverfield (2008, PG-13)
To me, it was an interesting film and the shaky camera didn't bother me. I liked the point of view, we knew as much information as the characters in the movie which is... nothing. I wasn't scared but I felt some adrenaline just watching them run in the streets of New York, as if it was myself who was being chased by an enormous monster. I also appreciated the fact that all the actors were unknown, or almost. It gave a more realistic touch to the story. In the genre, I liked [Rec] even more but it's still very enjoyable to watch. If you can bear it! |

| 34 |
Dark Water (2002, PG-13)
The editing was very effective since I had goosebumps quite a few times. There are not many scary scenes but the whole atmosphere is dark and creepy. The Japaneses does know how to handle horror movies and Hideo Nakata proves it once again. It's also a touching story if you pay more attention to the storyline instead of the ghost. |

Dracula (1931, Unrated)
It's a very well acted film and I understand the fuss around Bela Lugosi. It's interesting to see the point of view of the people back in the 1930s since vampires' movies of today don't necessarily have the same standards. The only thing that bugs me is the end of the film which happen way too early and without any further explanations. But other than this little con, it's a great film about Dracula. |

Frankenstein (1931, Unrated)
It's a great horror classic but it's not as good as Dracula, in my own opinion. The editing is not as efficient as it was in this other film, and there's a lack of something. I must also admit I laughed out loud during the scene with the little girl called Maria. When he throws her in the lake, I almost burst into tears laughing. Otherwise, the locations and decors are really great and I think Colin Clive gave a nice performance as an obsessed scientist but who's still having humanity. |

Halloween (2007, R)
The fact that Rob Zombie tried to develop Michael's childhood story was a great idea. I really wanted to know what was going in his mind since we never heard him speak before. But I didn't like the way he did it. I know he likes to make things thrash but it seems to me that it didn't fit to the story. But for the cinematography and the first half, i'll give it a 3,5. |
|
| 58 |
Halloween (1978, R)
It takes some time before the movie really starts, but when it does, it's really fun. I liked the way the film ended too. But there were also many things that irritated me... such as the doors that won't open or some little details like these. But otherwise, I guess it's a classic and it needs to be watched! |
|
| 59 |
Halloween II (1981, R)
I think I liked it even better than the first one. There's a little bit more of action going on in it although I must admit I laughed a couple of times because of some nonsense. But I guess most horror movies do have those nonsense moments. And for the actors, Donald Pleasance and Jamie Lee Curtis are really great and they make the film on their own. |

well, it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. i really loved the fact that the story took place in europe, i like to see different backgrounds. the only major problem i have is that i should have been shocked and traumatized... instead, i feel amused. maybe he didn't succeed on this, but at least, he got money from it. |

Inferno (1980, R)
I'm sorry to admit it but it was definitely not as good as Suspiria. The use of colors was as interesting though but it was the only big positive point. Otherwise, I didn't like the music... sometimes, it just didn't fit to the scenes. Also, the plot was very minimalist. We didn't get any information on the characters and the story just go and on without anything explained. Also, I wasn't even scared once because the creepy atmosphere was absent. Still, I can't wait to see what happens in La Terza Madre. |

El Orfanato (The Orphanage) (2007, R)
Belén Rueda is really a great actress. I saw her first in Mar Adentro, which I loved, and now in El Orfanato. The movie was different from what I thought. It was way more dramatic than horror. But it's not a bad point actually. I enjoyed it a lot, and even cried at some point. The atmosphere is really creepy throughout the film which doesn't make you guess what will happen next. Interesting piece! |
|
| 85 |
P2 (2007, R) |
|
| 86 |
Pet Sematary (1989, R)
The story is rather interesting. The thing is the film in itself didn't age well which makes it not too scary, as I supposed it was, back in the days it was made. But it's still a classic, so I needed to see it anyway. I guess I should try to read the book to see if it's better (and it's probably the case). |
|
| 87 |
Phenomena (Creepers) (1985, R)
Dario Argento delivers quite a weird film with this one. It's a mix of a lot of things. The background story is familiar with the one in Suspiria. But you must also know that there is also a great use of insects, metal music and a dreamy atmosphere throughout the movie. The Swiss scenery adds also a lot to the story. Jennifer Connelly is also giving a nice performance. |
|
| 88 |
Poltergeist (1982, PG) |
|
| 89 |
Predator (1987, R)
i don't know why everybody loves this film... i thought it was kind of cheesy. the music was terrible & the acting is so-so (arnold's lines are restrained and don't have such importance in the development of the film). but i'll give the credit to the director for entertaining me at least during half the movie. |

Psycho (1960, R) |
|
| 91 |
Psycho (1998, R)
I won't agree with everyone here and i'll say that it is a great remake. Of course it's not the original but it's almost as good. Gus Van Sant dedicated this film to Alfred Hitchcock and tried to redo it with the technologies that Hitchcock didn't have at the time and wished he did. I can say that he succeeded. If you take this film apart and do not think about the original version, you would like it, wouldn't you? I know you do. |

[Rec] (2007, R)
Goddamn, this film was so good! From the moment they entered the building, I was nervous. When they went into the penthouse, I thought I would go crazy from too much stress. The direction and acting is perfect. As good as The Descent, if not even better. |

Shutter (They Are Around Us) (2004, R)
After watching it, I must admit I didn't sleep too well. I think that the scene that creeped me out the most was when the ghost was near the bed and she was pulling the sheet while the couple was sleeping. It stayed fresh in my mind and when I was in bed myself, I was shaking thinking about it. Otherwise, it was a nice directed Thai ghost story and I liked it a lot. |
|
| 103 |
Suspiria (1977, R)
the work made on the lightings and the artistic direction are delightful. each frame is like an art piece and you can't take off your eyes from the screen. it creates an atmosphere that will make you shiver. what also helps to get this dark atmosphere is the music by the goblins. very spooky and surreal, suspiria will make you fall in love with dario argento, if you are not already a fan. |

|
| 105 |
The Amityville Horror (1979, R) |

| 106 |
E tu vivrai nel terrore - L'aldilà (The Beyond) (1981, Unrated)
It was rather interesting and the way the script was written, I couldn't plan what was coming next. It contains a lot of gore, a lot of atmosphere and there's also some nice visuals. The only thing that is quite bad is the acting. I know some of the characters are dubbed but still... It could have been better. |

The Birds (1963, PG-13) |
|
| 108 |
The Blair Witch Project (1999, R) |
|
| 109 |
The Broken (2008, R)
I didn't know much about this film nor did I have any expectancies towards it. But I must say I was highly surprised by the quality of the cinematography and the story itself. It wasn't that scary but it kept me on the edge of my seat nonetheless. I thought it was quite efficient for the genre and for a first attempt in the world of horror by the director. |

The Descent (2006, R)
i loved the way the story is structured. it starts slowly, growing a certain creepy atmosphere and it gets you on the edge of your bench. then it hit you and the downfall starts, as the women struggle with their lives and start to die one by one. the way it was filmed was also great: you really feel like you are stuck in a cavern and you get a feeling of claustrophobia. the cast delivered an amazing performance, making the characters look real, complete and interesting. i especially liked sarah's character development, as she stills have visions of her dead husband and daughter. well done! |

The Devil's Backbone (Espinazo del diablo, El) (2001, R) |
|
| 114 |
The Devil's Rejects (2005, R) |
|
| 115 |
The Eye (Gin gwai) (2002, R)
I liked the way they respect the dead in this film. I mean, they don't treat them as mean people. They are shown as souls who are torn apart and just don't know that they died. So, it's creepy, yes, but at the same time it's quite sad! I liked the visuals and the way the Pang brothers directed the film. It was very pleasant for the eyes. The cast is also very good. It's original, if you're bored of long-haired Asian ghosts' story. |

The Haunting in Connecticut (2009, PG-13) |
|
| 120 |
The Host (Gwoemul) (2007, R)
this movie is so much more than a movie about an evil monster coming from the depth of the han river. i was disgusted by the government's corruption and in that sense, it reminded me of the film 28 days later by danny boyle. it's also a movie about the importance of having a nice family relationship. all in all, the plot line is interesting and you should give it a chance if you haven't seen it yet! |
|
| 121 |
The Lost Boys (1987, R) |
|
| 122 |
Them (Ils) (2007, R)
I really liked it until they get out of the house. Then it looks like any other slasher movie. But still, the actors are great and I really enjoyed the fact that it's taken place in Romania; it's a different setting and it's original. The fact that it's supposed to be kids who did all those things is also very disturbing and creepy. Geez. |
|
| 123 |
The Nightmare Before Christmas (2008, PG) |
|
| 124 |
The Omen (1976, R)
the atmosphere reminded me a lot of the one in rosemary's baby. it is very creepy and dark, and the story line is very interesting. i liked the fact that it wasn't based on the amount of blood or on the old trick of putting loud music in a silent moment. and talking about music, the choir added a lot to the whole creepiness... the actors were playing very nicely, especially gregory peck. definately a new favorite in the horror genre. |
|
| 125 |
The Others (2001, PG-13) |
|
| 126 |
The Red Shoes (Bunhong Shin) (2005, Unrated)
The premise sounded quite interesting, I mean why not, but it didn't deliver. The story went into too many ways and wanted to be complex, but the director couldn't handle it. I guess it could have been better in other hands but in this case, I was a bit disappointed. But visually, it was magnificent and the cast was great too. Unfortunately, the most important thing is the story and it didn't work for me. But if you really like asian horror, I bet you could find what you look for in this movie. |

|
| 132 |
The Sixth Sense (1999, PG-13) |
|
| 133 |
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974, R)
I was very disappointed after seeing what is supposed to be a classic. I didn't like the editing at all. What are those zooms on people's eyes supposed to mean? It's annoying, that's all. And also, it wasn't scary plus the main actress's screaming was getting on my nerves. I'm only giving it credit because of its influence on slasher films. |

the story is well developed and the cast is great, especially agnes bruckner and patricia clarkson. i'm not used to see so many women in a film, but they all deliver the merchandise. the visual effects are good as well, and the music is well chosen, as it takes place in the 60s. i had a few goosebumps during some scenes, and i guess it's a good thing since it's an horror movie. watch it if you're expecting a creepy experience, you'll be served! |
