Dogfight (1991, R)
Description: In 1963, the night before the 18 years old "Birdlace" Eddie and his friends are shipped to Vietnam, they play a cruel game called 'Dogfight': all of them seek a woman for a party, and who finds the most ugly one, wins a prize. Eddie finds the lonesome pacifist Rose working in a coffee shop. She's happy to accompany him - but then she sees through the game and is devastated by his cruelty. But war can humble a man, and sometimes love is found in the most unexpected places, or people. My review:A truly wonderful..wonderful film. After Stand by me, I was a River fan and he shone again in this role but the true gem here is Lili Taylor. Her character is so sweet, endearing and vulnerable but beneath all that she had gumption. This is the kind of movie where the more you watch, the more it captivates you thanks to a good script by Bob Comfort. |

Titanic (1997, PG-13)
The Titanic. Unsinkable, it was claimed until an iceberg changed everything. I don t think I will ever get bored of this movie. When it came out in 1997, I saw it for the very 1st time, I was in awe. Still am. The cinematography and the special effects kept me riveted. It gives you the feeling of almost being there on the ship itself. A visual grandeur indeed. The 2 leads were superb, amazing chemistry. To date, my favourite scene is where L.DeCaprio and Kate Winslet flying at the ship's front. The sinking of the great ship is no secret and certain scenes were so hauntingly sad .Every creak and groan of the ship was audible when watching it on a good quality DVD. |

Antwone Fisher (2002, PG-13)
Curious about Denzel 's directing debut and he starred in it as well, I decided to watch this. It is from an adaption of the book Finding Fish, based on the remarkable true memoirs of Antwone Fisher. This is truly a heartfelt story, the story of obstacles overcome. with impressive acting from Derek Luke. It is extremely difficult to remain dry eyed for long. A movie that I will not forget easily and a salute is in order. |

House of Sand and Fog (2003, R)
Ben Kingsley is superb in the movie, he dominates the screen as an Iranian colonel trying to maintain order in his life in America. Connelly was pretty impressive too even though I don t quite like her character in this film. Portrayed here as a depressed weakling and I couldnt master a single shred of sympathy for her, she could have save herself a whole load of trouble if she had bothered to open her mails. . The story is sad and poignant, a tragedy of shattered dreams. |

Memoirs of a Geisha (2005, PG-13)
Read the book many years ago and was both excited and at the same time afraid that this beautiful story would be butchered onscreen. Rob Marshall proved me wrong. Also its funny that this film was heavily criticized for having a Malaysian and 2 Chinese actresses portraying Japanese Geishas. My favourite is Gong Li here, she deserved a recognition for her role as Hatsumomo. Lavish costumes and exquisite cinematography |
