Ravenous (1999, R)
Movies about cannibalism (a decent subject for a horror I guess) are really rare;I can only remember Mr Hannibal films and we only saw him eating people in the 2nd installment (not counting the prequal trash). So to have a movie about this subject that is serious, meanigful, symbolic, gory and funny all at the same time:that`s priceless. Ravenous makers managed to achieve this very complex diffcult formula and made for us a great movie. The plot is simply about eating in both the symbolic way and the literal one and as I mentioned it will be impossible to determine this film`s genre whether it is a comedy, dark comedy, drama, thriller or horror( frankly the film takes the best thing from each genre, place together and serves it to the audience). The director did an amazing job to handle such a complex film and a crazy ,but solid though, plot. The setting was septecular the cinematography was magnificent and the acting was phenomenal from every single person appeared on the screen. Guy Pearce unusually delivered well and I guess that Robert Caryle deserved an award for such great performance. My final four words go see it NOW! |
