Closer (2004,  R)
Closer 5.0 Stars
'I Can't Take My Eyes Off of You'... One of those movie songs which perfectly matches the film and I can't get it out of my head! WOW~ how to describe this almost genius of a film?! Raw, incredible, exotic, erotic, and masterful are words which come to the front of my mind. Complexity and simplicity rolled into one make Closer one of the most interesting films I've had the pleasure of viewing. Though not a film for all audiences (graphic language, subject matter, nudity/sexuality), Patrick Marber has written a superb script involving deception, intimacy, infidelity and sacrifice. Clive Owen, Jude Law and Natalie Portman give award winning performances, and even Julia Roberts doesn't fall flat in Closer. A truly spellbinding film....

Sin City (2005,  R)
Sin City 3.0 Stars
Sin City is a perfect comic book adaptation. Shot beautifully in black and white with only the occasional red, blue and yellow, one cannot find fault with the setting, cinematography or costuming. The acting shines as well, most especially the parts portrayed by Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis and Clive Owen. With that said, this is not a genre which interest me and I found the story disjointed, convoluted and the dialogue is quite laughable. Three stars for the brilliance in transferring comic to screen and the acting.

Derailed (2005,  R)
Derailed 1.5 Stars
A moralistic look at how a wrong decision can 'derail' ones life. Combing a suspense film with Clive Owen, one would think this was a thriller not to miss. The twists and turns exist in the film, but be it lack of direction or bad acting, Aniston is much too readable and gives the story away early on. The give away took the suspense out of the film for me. Owen and Aniston lacked the chemistry for me to believe they were 'passionate' about each other. Vincent Cassel is the gem of Derailed. His performance is stellar. RZA and Xzibit are the remaining bright spots of the supporting cast. A huge disappointment as I expected much more with Owen on the bill.

Children of Men (2006,  R)
Children of Men 4.5 Stars
A poignant masterpiece on a world gone mad with globalization... This film hooked me from the start and kept me enthralled until the end. It left me wanting more. Great loose adaptation of the P D James novel. Clive Owen was amazingly brilliant and along with stellar performances by the supporting cast, this film takes the viewer along for a meaningful look at what our world could easily become. From script, acting, directing, location, and cinematography, this film will not leave you bored, but leave you wanting to know more....

Shoot 'Em Up (2007,  R)
Shoot 'Em Up 4.0 Stars
A truly fun violent film.... With grit, violence and witty dialogue, Shoot 'Em Up is a roller coaster ride of fun from beginning to end. If you don't like loud and you don't like guns, this film isn't for you. If you like pure action, even if you must suspend belief, this flick packs the punch. Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti are perfect, and Monica Bellucci was great. Give me Clive Owen as an action hero any day of the week!

Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007,  PG-13)
Elizabeth: The Golden Age 4.5 Stars
Cate Blanchett is Elizabeth the virgin queen! An excellent telling of the Spanish defeat by the English shot brilliantly with dazzling color use throughout the film, and all the drama surround the Queen. Clive Owen and Geoffrey Rush shine in their respective roles. This epic film is almost perfect....
