Primal Fear (1996, R)
This brilliant and clever courtroom drama is too overlooked and underrated. Primal Fear builds the suspense and delivers a shock at the end. Great performances from the entire cast and Edward Norton's Hollywood debut was a masterpiece. Very easy to see why Norton received an Oscar nomination his first time out. Don't miss this one.... |

Down in the Valley (2005, R)
Thank goodness Edward Norton was in this movie or I would have yanked it out of the DVD player. The film contains an interesting storyline and all the actors did a fine job, but the movie drags quite often. Issues with the director maybe? I am not sure what went wrong, but though this film makes you curious, it is not one I would recommend (except to Norton fans) nor one I want to see again. |

The Painted Veil (2006, PG-13)
Sometimes the greatest journey is the distance between two people... The Painted Veil has a perfect tagline. This superbly directed period romance piece stars Edward Norton and Naomi Watts (Dr. Walter Fanes, a bacteriologist & his wife, Kitty) as a young 1920's English couple with a less than perfect marriage on a journey to China during a cholera epidemic. The cinematography is most awesome. The beauty of China is captivating. A love story filled with numerous clichés, the directing, scripting, scoring and acting deliver all the punches to make this a remarkable film. |
