Dr. No
Connery IS JAmes Bond. The Film that started it all.
2
From Russia With Love (1964,  PG)
From Russia With Love
Bond before the gadgets! My favorite Bond film. Robert Shaw is the villian. So many great peices in this film from the opening scene to the closing credits. Awsome fight on the Orient Express.
3
Goldfinger (1964,  PG)
4
Thunderball (1965,  PG)
5
You Only Live Twice (1967,  PG)
You Only Live Twice
You Only Live Twice is Connery's last Bond film before his first retirment of playing the character. It's also the first Bond film to have an elaborite villians lair. The volcano fortress is pretty cool. Donald Pleasence as Ernesto Blofeld is probaly the best ingrediant in the film. Although he has little screen time.
I found YOLT to be a pretty underwhelming Connery entry. Dont get me wrong its a cool film and heads above any Moore Bond film, but it definatly doesnt stand up to the entries that came before it.
6
On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969,  PG)
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Another fav in the Bond series. George Lazenby takes over the role of Bond for 1 movie. Telly Savalis is Blofeld. This film took Bond back to the original tone of the first couple films with that there was no gadgets. Great spy film. Lazenby should of been Bond for more films.
7
For Your Eyes Only (1981,  PG)
For Your Eyes Only
The best film Moore ever did as Bond! A great entry in the series.
8
Licence To Kill (1989,  PG)
Licence To Kill
hardassed Bond film. Wre the only flaw is the acting of some of the supporting players.
Not much tongue in cheek unlike the Moore Bonds.
9
GoldenEye (1995,  PG-13)
GoldenEye
Brosnans first film as Bond. Horrible score though. But a great comeback for Bond.
10
Tomorrow Never Dies (1997,  PG-13)
Tomorrow Never Dies
a really good entry with Brosnan as Bond. His second best film as the spy. One of my favorites.
11
Casino Royale (2006,  PG-13)
Casino Royale
One of the best Bond films in the last 30 years. Casino Royale is the film us Bond fans have been longing for. Its been a long time since there was a entry in the series were Bond was a total badass! Daniel Craig portrayes Bond better than anyone since Lazenby did him for OHMSS. Not to mention we get the best Bond villian, Le Chiffre, since Savalis did Blofeld.
This film set out to restart the Bond films with grit and guts. And it succeeds on all levels. I cant wait to see more Daniel Craig Bond films. And i think they should make Martin Cambell the man who directs the next couple of Bond films. He did a stellar job with Goldeneye and he returns to do an even better job with Casino Royale. He can be what Terrence Young and Guy Hamilton were to the series.
Jeffrey Wright is no Jack Lord; but he does a great job portraying Felix Leiter. A character ive missed for a while now.
Highly recommended to anyone who loves their Bond films served up with a warm bowl of grit!
12
Quantum of Solace (2008,  PG-13)
Quantum of Solace
I went into this with some doubts due to a good bit of negativity QOS has received over the last several weeks or so. But was totaly suprised by how good this was. No its not Casino Royale, but it is a solid Bond film that deserves way more credit then its getting. For some reason its been hated since the title was announced a year ago!? Quantum Of Solace is a fucking great name for a Bond film and it is the last true title of an actual Flemming Bond story we will ever get unless some asshole director thinks The Property Of A Lady, The Hildebrand Rarity, Risico or even worse 007 In New York are useable titles.
The Bond we have here is still a Bond in the making. The film picks up minutes after Casino Royale. Bond is still out to find who the orginzation is that is responsible for Le Chiffre and Vespers deaths. QOS reminded me a bit of License To Kill in the fact that this is a Bond who out for personal revenge. And like License, QOS is a grim and dark Bond film. Daniel Craig is the best Bond since Connery...hands down! He's the Bond that Flemming wrote about in all those great novels.
Though i loved this film, it still comes with its flaws. Namely Forsters direction with action sequences! Marc Forster, like so many of todays directors who think super fast editing with medium close-ups and a shakey cam shots are the way you film an action sequence...i say fuck you to him and all those who think this is the way action should be shot! Its distracting and disorienting! And its fucking lazy. This is not a video game for Christ sakes!!!And the producers need to get their heads out of their asses when it comes to a Bond theme! This one is awful! Its not Madonna's Die Another Day awful or even Carly Simon's Nobody Does It Better awful, but its pretty bad. How about going back and listening to those incredible John Barry themes with Shirley Bassey and Tom Jones and taking some notes...hell David Arnold proved he could compose a fantastic theme on the one he did with K.D. Lang that plays over the closing credits for Tommorow Never Dies. That was as good as any Barry theme! Stop using these talentless twits and let Arnold do his thing!!!
That aside Quantum Of Solace is still a damn fine Bond film.
13
The French Connection (1971,  R)
The French Connection
70's grit at its finest. My all time favorite action film.
14
The French Connection II (1975,  R)
The French Connection II
its rare when a sequel is as good as the original. Great dialogue! Great acting. Hakman gets the Frog!
15
Hard Times (1975,  PG)
Hard Times
The greatest Bronson film. A real mans movie.
16
Mr. Majestyk (1974,  PG)
Mr. Majestyk
Theres not much to this film as far as good storytelling, but its definatly worth see Bronson be the total badass he is. Dont fuck with Charles Bronsons melons! He does do alot of great ass kicking. And he does it with all the class Bronson is known for. Hes one of the ultimate badasses.
Some of the acting is pretty questionable....the guy who plays the Lieutenant brings about as much life to his character as one of my toe nail clippings brings to the garbage. This came highly recommended to me as one of the best Bronson films. I beg to differ. Hard Times is the film to see when it comes to a Bronson starring role.
But Mr Majestyk is a fun way to kill a Saturday afternoon.
17
Electra Glide in Blue (1973,  PG)
18
The Ipcress File (1965,  Unrated)
The Ipcress File
The first in the series of the Harry Palmer spy films. One of the best spy thrillers.
19
Emperor of the North Pole (Emperor of the North) (1973,  PG)
Emperor of the North Pole (Emperor of the North)
Ernest Borgnine plays a sadistic train conducter. Marvin plays a hard as nails hobo determined to ride Borgnines train.
20
First Blood (Rambo: First Blood) (1982,  R)
First Blood (Rambo: First Blood)
Stallones best film. "you drew first blood...not me"
21
Rambo (Rambo IV) (2008,  R)
Rambo (Rambo IV)
O.k. its a fucking Rambo film. So anyone expecting a fine slice of cinema is a total moron. Period! I love First Blood, but hate the second and third installments. So when i first heard that they were making a third sequel, i rolled my eyes and never thought about it again. That is until i saw the greusome internet trailer months and months ago. Then i thought...holy shit thats fucking bloody. Like really fucking bloody. My interests were peaked.
This is a totally fun action film. Nothing more and nothing less. Its cheesey and nostalgic. And my god it may have been the bloodiest R-rated film ive ever watched. The violence is so over the top, its almost cartoon. But thats what i think it was intended to be. Bodies are blown in half, gutted, feed to pigs and throats are torn out. All of this and more...and its all shown!
Heads above Rambo 2 and 3. Which by the way brings me to a confusing point. I thought the second installment was called Rambo. How can there be two Rambo's. I would of prefered it to be called John Rambo as originally intended. (thats my only complaint about this film.)A total guilty pleasure. The best sequel to First Blood!
22
The Longest Yard (1974,  R)
The Longest Yard
seriously...whats not to like about a Burt Reynolds prison film.
23
Die Hard (1988,  R)
Die Hard
Seriously, this is a fun 80's action film.
24
Die Hard 2 (Die Hard 2: Die Harder) (1990,  R)
Die Hard 2 (Die Hard 2: Die Harder)
fun entry in the die hard series. I think this is just as fun as the first.
25
The Bourne Identity (2002,  PG-13)
The Bourne Identity
A great spy thriller in the vain of old bond films and Harry Palmer films.
26
The Bourne Supremacy (2004,  PG-13)
The Bourne Supremacy
A solid sequal to the Bourne Identity! Action done well!
27
The Bourne Ultimatum (2007,  PG-13)
The Bourne Ultimatum
Another great entry in one of the coolest modern spy/espionage film series. Flawlessly crated story. Yet for some reason the goddamn epiliptic shakey cam is still present. I fucking hate that shit. It makes me queazy. Still though i can overlook that flaw...or should i say a lazy way to make a film.
28
Dirty Harry (1971,  R)
Dirty Harry
Eastwood gets gritty in this awsome cop thriller.
29
The Seven Ups (1973,  PG)
The Seven Ups
Being a huge fan of the 70's cop thrillers, i was hoping for a little more out of The Seven Ups. Its not bad but there really isnt a whole lot going on to keep you involved and on your toes. It definalty lacks the intensity of The French Connection films and Dirty Harry. But its not a total waste. Its got a good gritty feel and It has an amazing 10 minute car chase thats pretty intense. I loved Roy Scheider and have always thought he was an underused actor. So this is a good film to see him be a totaly cool badass.
30
Death Hunt (1981,  R)
Death Hunt
Tight little film from the man who made On Her Majestys Secret Service..Peter Hunt. When it comes to Charles Bronson and Lee Marvin films in the 80's, the chances of finding a half decent film are pretty dismal in my opinion. But this is an exeption. Made in 81, this is a cool action-adventure thriller.
Bronson actually brings some depth to his character. And Marvin spouts some great lines. And Angie Dickinson serves no purpose what so ever!?
Not exactly a classic but its definatly a really good Bronson and Marvin team-up film. Great visuals and its suprisingly bloody as hell. And way better than most Bronson starring vehicles.
31
Cool Hand Luke (1967,  Unrated)
Cool Hand Luke
incredible film. Kennedy is fantastic as a meat head prisoner.
32
Tarzan the Ape Man (1932,  Unrated)
Tarzan the Ape Man
This is seriously a great film. I used to watch every Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan film on sunday afternoons when i was a kid. I love em. To me he is the only Tarzan. All others fail in comparison. As I was watching Tarzan the Ape Man this morning for the first time in yeeaarrss, i never realized how brutal this film is. If it were released today it would most likely get either a R or a PG-13. There are racsist over tones and its very violent. Sure its 1932 but for its time I couldnt believe alot of the things i was seeing. Stabbings, shootings, lion attacks and beasts ripping people apart in a pit.
Highlights of the film include Tarzan first nabbing Jane from her hunting party and the ending with the savage midgets and their pit of monster. Great stuff.
33
Rolling Thunder (1977,  R)
Rolling Thunder
Rolling Thunder is a odd film. On one hand its a very self aware Drama, and on the other hand its a mean vigilante film. It definatly distances its self from the Death Wish types. With Paul Schrader scripting, its definatly deeper than the usual.
William Devane gives a very subdued performance as Major Charles Rane. At first his performance bothered me a bit. He is very emotionless when at times he should be a wreck or filled with anger. But there is a key scene in the film that sums his character all up when he says something to the effect of having felt like he died and is just seeing the world pass around him. That line saved his character for me.
With a great supporting cast including Tommy Lee Jones and fucking Rosco P. Coltrane himself as a very mean and sleazy hoodlum, James Best.
The ending is very Peckinpah inspired. Two men who with a bleak future who have nothing to live for go for the payback with guns ablazing. The violence is great and the paybacks are worthy. Great stuff from the 70's.
34
Bullitt (1968,  PG)
Bullitt
Bullitt is one of those films were i would embarrassingly say "no I havnt seen it yet"
Finally.....I have to say i was completely impressed with Bullitt. Its well made, well acted and a violent and bloody as hell film for 1968. The Lalo Schifrin score is goddam cool! A kinda lounge jazz vibe. Seriously a great score. The story is well thought out. And McQueen is badass. Bullitt boast some impressive performances all around. Norman Fell was a total suprise! I love it when that guy just pops up suddenly out of nowere.
This film deserves more credit than some give it. Its a great film and iam sure the inevitable remake is one day gonna make its way to cineaplex's everywere. The thing is i bet i wont have nearly as much class as the original!
35
The Poseidon Adventure (1972,  PG)
The Poseidon Adventure
Entertaing disaster yearn with an all star cast. It looks pretty dated and the little kid in the film should of ended up as fish food as far as iam concered but none the less its way entertaining. Hackman and Borgnine are great together. And its funny to see Leslie Neilsen as the ships Captain.
36
Deadlier Than the Male (1967,  Unrated)
Deadlier Than the Male
A blast if your a fan of 007 and spy films. Deadlier Than The Male really stands out when the Femme Fatales are on screen. Elke Summer and Sylva Koscina are great as the beautiful and incredibly deadly woman who snuff out their victims with perverse pleasure.
Richard Johnson is a descent leadind man doing his best to look the Connery part. It took me a bit to get used to the nephew sidekick but eventually he became part of the fun. Campy spy film thats better than most of its time.
37
Taken (2009,  PG-13)
Taken
O.K. it took me about twenty minutes or so to take the bait but once i did i was not disappointed. Taken has brass fucking balls! This is like Get Carter on PCP. Liam Neeson character does exactly what you would want a person in his type of situation to do...be fucking relentless, show no mercy and make the bastards pay!
I cant believe this had a PG-13 rating. Theres no way in hell i would let a kid that age see this. This film makes no apologies for what a revenge film really means. Fuck justice...its all about revenge. Hard hitting, brutal and sleazy as hell!
38
The Eiger Sanction (1975,  R)
The Eiger Sanction
The Eiger Sanction is kind of like Eastwoods attempt at doing his own James Bond kind of thing. It has a ton going for it. Namely the visuals. Eastwoods direction is incredible. I loved the whole Dragon stuff.
But the film really falls apart in the last third. Its like somebody spilled paint on the only script being used and they just improvised the last act. Up until that though i was loving what i was seeing. The dialogue is a riot and the mountain climbing scenes are incredible. Namely the ones were Eastwood is traing with George Kennedy and you see its really Eastwood doing the climbing.
Fun and cool looking but flawed.

Shack Out on 101 (1955,  Unrated)
Shack Out on 101
Heres a really wacked out film about a diner thats a front for communist spies. A very young Lee Marvin plays a cook named Slob! And hes every bit of his name. There are random moments of total halarity like when MArvin and Keenan Wynn are lifting weights in the diner, or when Wynn is wearing a scuba suit while holding a spear gun acting like hes on the bottom of the ocean. This film is insane, sleazy And highly recomended! TCM started to play it recently...so check it out!!
40
Prime Cut (1972,  R)
Prime Cut
This is a strange but well made tough guy film. Characters have names like Poppy, Weenie, Mary-ann(Hackmans character!) and Clarabelle!? Lee Marvin is great in this. Bringing alot of depth to his character, he's not only a bad ass but he's got feelings too. Theres several funny scenes with Marvin, one in particular involves him tasting milk. They dont make leading men like him anymore!
There is a real sleazy element involving a white slavery auction. And it is here that Sissy Spacek makes her acting debut...butt ass naked lying on a ground of hay in a cattle pen. Thats one hell of an entrance Coal Miners Daughter!
