Up (2009,  PG)
Up
I hold Wall-E as one of the best films of 2008, and I had unreasonable high expectations for Up. Especially after the absolutely brilliant teaser trailer that is a work of art on it's own. But Up delivers. For while Wall-E remains my personal favourite Up had everythong. Everything about it just worked, and it was beautiful, and magical and heartbreakening and hilariously entertaing all in the same package. It's greatest strength lies in the attention to detailes, how each and every indivdual little thing flows together and helps support this grand and absurd concept. It is nothing short of genius. And, it made me cry. Twice.

Whatever Works (2009,  PG-13)
Whatever Works
This stage inspired feel good flick had it's awkward moments, but I laughed so much! My sense of humor.
3
DeUsynlige (Troubled Water) (2008,  Unrated)
DeUsynlige (Troubled Water)
Amazing. The emotional investment, the slow build and the chill down my spine, this is probal the best film I will see this year. This right here is the reason why I love movies.
4
Prinsessa (Princess) (2009,  Unrated)
Prinsessa (Princess)
I really enjoyed this feel-good gem. It had a genuin, straightforward and over all very lovable tone.
5
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009,  PG)
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Not bad, in fact not bad at all, but not great either. I felt that they missed the tone of the final scenes, especially with Snape, there wasn't enough anger, or passion or heck anything would have done 'cause that dry Snape that Alan Rickman does usually works but didn't here, I also missed the new minister of magic and unfortunately Ginny is a terrible actress, which shows now when she's got more to do. Aside from that a satisfing xperience that kept the bar nicely high for the Potter-films.
6
The Proposal (2009,  PG-13)
The Proposal
It is what you everything you would excpect and want from a romantic comedy, with the added bonus of solid performances from the two lead actors, an adorable grandmother and a hilarious fake heart attack. Me and my sister had a good time watching it.
7
The Hangover (2009,  R)
The Hangover
To my surprise, I had a great time in the theatre watching this film. I thought that it wasn't my kind of comedy, and quite frankly it isn't, but that didn't matter. It was so darn funny that I laughed out loud over and over, the kind of great, genuine laugh that trancendes such trivial things as genres.
8
State of Play (2009,  PG-13)
State of Play
Underachiever, losing focus of the interesting issue of how our medias and newspapers should be valued, and settles for a rather traditional and uninspired corruption story with military connections. Which is a shame. It was suspensful watching it, but it fades rather quickly in memory.
9
X-Men Origins - Wolverine (2009,  PG-13)
X-Men Origins - Wolverine
Ah, well... A spectacular film that I'm not target audience for. It helped pass the time, but it wouldn't have been my pick. I really miss the depth of the first two X-men installations, so much was lost in the change of director.
10
Watchmen (2009,  R)
Watchmen
If you are looking for dark, gritty, in-your-face-morbid-funny, with a couple of great characers, and some amazing visuals this is what you are looking for. A well set sense of the era, an alternative course of our recent history and a little poking into human nature are other treats. I also loved the fact that the bad guy actually won, if there ever was a bad guy at all. All sideplots and all the female characters were unbelievably weak though, and a terribly graphic sex scene where I didn't even see the point of the relationship at all, and to top it of with a horrible music-choise should be ignored. That was the musical exception though, over all the score was great, especially the opening montage accompanied by Dylans "The times are a-changeing", which was very memorable. The bar is up in the super-herogenre, and I like it.

Man Som Hatar Kvinnor (Millenium: Part 1 - Men Who Hate Women) (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) (2009,  Unrated)
Man Som Hatar Kvinnor (Millenium: Part 1 - Men Who Hate Women) (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo)
A tricky adaption that worked great. Acting, key scenes, flow, moods, it was all there. I really liked the book (me and everyone else) and this was the second time in the last year that a swedish movie based on a popular swedish book impressed me. I have hope for the future of swedish movie-making.
12
Taken (2009,  PG-13)
Taken
A great, straightforward and lowprofile adrenaline action movie. Excellent in it's genre.
13
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008,  PG-13)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
This is one of those movies that get points for it's crafting. It's elegant, beautiful and over all superbly and delicatly handled. Then again, it is a drama in my taste, with themes and a pacing I like, and there is also a warm sense of humor here that I appreciate. Acting is extrodinary, as is the make up and special effects, but I want to give extra kudos to lightning and music. It's just such a beautiful picture! Suddenly all those oscarnominations that bugged me (13? wasn't there any other movies made in 2008?) made some sense.
14
Australia (2008,  PG-13)
Australia
An epic, in every meaning of the word, and a joyful experience. It didn't change my life or my view of the world, but it gave me two enjoyable hours in the theatre. Loved the australian landscapes, and the entire truckride-scene.
15
The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008,  PG-13)
The Day the Earth Stood Still
Only for fans of disastermovies, and it's not even among the best I have seen in it's genre. The concept is great, but the movie isn't.
It's not that it's doing anything obviously wrong, but it's not doing much right either. Many small mistakes and one big mistake in the form a whiny, annoying kid who couldn't act and whose presence was generally unmotivated added up to make this film a bit... awkward. Mainly because it fails to adress it's real issues. How we treat our planet and how we, especially the military section of us, tends to treat anyone who is different, foregien or, if you wish, ailien. Instead the main theme became a rude little kid mourning his father and the importance of family and ultimately love. But even though love is one of mankinds few redeeming qualities I doubt that it's our strong familyvalues that will prevent us from destroying the earth. And if Neo and company were as clever as they were implied to be they should know that to.
This huge slip in focus is quite unforgivable, but of course there is some good stuff here as well. I loved everything about the giant robot, I was quite facinated by how they intended to save the world from us and I absolutely loved the scene with John Clease. Perfection, and the highlight of the movie. That is what the rest should have been like, and felt like. That was the real question, can we change? If they had dared to adress questions about what we can do, how can humanity as awhole actually change and get of this dangerous track we are on if faced with a crisis, then this movie would have been something so unusual as a disaster blockbuster with both a brain and an important message merged with entertainment and cool effects. As it is, it's a little of target, so I guess Hollywood wasn't quite ready for that, but when they are I will be first in line. Until then I think I will check out the original.

Entre les Murs (The Class) (2008,  PG-13)
17
Involuntary (De ufrivillige) (2008,  Unrated)
Involuntary (De ufrivillige)
Painfully slow, in a real, true to life almost but not quite documenary style it takes a good look at Sweden, it's people and how we interact in grupes.
18
Burn After Reading (2008,  R)
Burn After Reading
Hysterically laugh out loud funny. Loved all the CIA scenes. "Basically, we don't know what anyone is after? Ok. Call me again when... when it makes sense." brilliant. But as the tagline said, intelligence is relative. Also, I never thought I would find it so hilarious to see Brad Pitt shot in the face. Unfuckingbelievable!
19
Quantum of Solace (2008,  PG-13)
Quantum of Solace
A solid action movie. Nothing really special, but nothing really wrong either. Bond isn't really my genre and to me this movie did what it's supposed to do. It had nothing on Casino Royale though, and over all I was satisfied, but not blown away.
20
WALL-E (2008,  G)
WALL-E
This little masterpiece is the only movie to make it into my top ten in a very long time. Best film I've seen in years, and definately a highligt of 2008.

Låt den Rätte Komma In (Let the Right One in) (2008,  R)
Låt den Rätte Komma In (Let the Right One in)
I gotta say I'm almost proud of the swedish filmindustri this year. I think Eternal moments is a beautiful film and I'm pretty sure I will love Patrik 1,5 but above all I'm so proud of this. One of the best books I have read in years were made into this unique movie.
22
Max Payne (2008,  PG-13)
Max Payne
A friend of mine said that this movie is "more matrix than the matrix!". Now that wasn't exactly true. This is more what matrix would have been if it had been a simple revenge-story with predictable turns in a crazy darklighted New York, based on a video game and starring Mark Wahlberg. Wait a minute, it is! It's not a good mvie oh no, but that doesn't mean it's not entertaing. There are some stunning visuals, and don't even get me started on the effects-overload. This is a movie where to much isn't enough and it's meant to preach to the converted. Simply put, it's a hardcore fan-film, and for everyone else its a stupid flick that you can watch if you want to give your brain a two hour vacation.
23
Get Smart (2008,  PG-13)
Get Smart
I was very pleasantly surprised. Without having seens a minute of the original serie, I can tell that this movie is a job well done. It's just gret fun, definately the best comedy I have seen in quite som time. Steve Carell is a genius, I'm impressed.
24
Hancock (2008,  PG-13)
Hancock
Great idea that got lost in a bad storyline. A shame, since it could have been so good if the whole film was at the same level as the first half. Over all: Fun enough. Barely.
25
The Dark Knight (2008,  PG-13)
26
Mamma Mia! (2008,  PG-13)
Mamma Mia!
I usually don't like musicals. The genre just doesn't work for me but Mamma mia, I was swept away by this film to a very happy place where I just wanted to sing and dance and join in on all the fun. It's great. It's the most "feel good" I've felt in a long time.
27
Kung Fu Panda (2008,  PG)
Kung Fu Panda
I'm impressed. I excpected a good enough film with a few laughs, and I got a borderline great film with many many laughs. plus amazing aminated action. Very well worth the ticket.
28
The Incredible Hulk (2008,  PG-13)
The Incredible Hulk
Superheros indeed
29
Iron Man (2008,  PG-13)
Iron Man
I had really fun. Liked the acting, and over all I just had fun. Which was great. Yeah. That´s it. Great fun.
Update! It survived a rewatch! I'm impressed. Great dialouge and character interactions in the small, undramatic scenes makes this one stand out in the bunch.

I Am Legend (2007,  PG-13)
I Am Legend
Ok. This was very little what I expected. (But on the other hand I had made sure to stay spoiler-free and hardly knew anything about it beforehand). But still. I was expecting a classical action movie with strong psykological elements. I got a not so classical action movie with strong psykological and considerably stronger horror-ish elements. I was scared half to death! Thank god they put some "Gods plan-stuff" there in the end so I could remind myself it was just a movie. if you are looking for entertainment and adrenalin this is definatly good enough to spend an evening and some cash on. I'll just finish of by saying that apart from the badly animated lions and the cheezy title for such a well crafted movie, I'm pleased.
31
Stardust (2007,  PG-13)
Stardust
A unique story, well made, well acted, filled with action, romance, adventure, great characters and ever so importantly a healthy portion humour. Oh, and its based on a story by Niel Gaiman. Well I'm sold, if you've got a little extra time I recommend you spend it on this film.
Update: Yes! It survived a rewatch! And it's a great datemovie.

The Secret Life of Words (2005,  Unrated)
The Secret Life of Words
A quiet verbal crecendo in the middle of all the slow grey days. A great great movie.

Bobby (2006,  R)
Bobby
I really like stories of many characters during a short period of time with an emotional core around an historical political event. I also like many of the actors and actresses in this shining movie full of stars. It was basically written for me. It tells of the cruel fate of the Kennedys, but also of how people used to care, of a time when politics mattered and one man could make a difference in the world. It´s hope and sadness and if I had lived back then I would have been nostalgic, now all I can do is ask; "Why do they always take the good people?"
34
Zodiac (2007,  R)
Zodiac
Intruging murderhaunt with peaks of intensity and fantastic actors.
35
Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End (2007,  PG-13)
Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End
A worthy ending of a fantastic and hilarious triology. Extra everything, ad I love it!
36
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007,  PG-13)
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
This is by far the best of the Harry Potter movies, might be the director but I guess it's just that the actors are older and more used to their parts now. It is, as always well produced with great performances, I absolutely LOVED the girl playing Luna, she was BRILLIANT. She actually deserves all the capital (usually ridiculous) letters, she was just that good. I also have to mention the pink monster umbrage and the always great Alan Rickman as Snape. I think the main credit have to go to the screenplay writer(s?) though, the adaptation from a 1000 pages book is simply amazing. (Unlike the Goblet of fire which really suffered from a badly adapted script.) In my opinion the worst book became the best film, and now I am really looking forward to the next one!

Linas Kvällsbok (Bitter Sweetheart) (2007,  Unrated)

Deja Vu (2006,  PG-13)

When he was chasing the car I just wen´t Wow! That was perfection. Really,f what you can do with film... Great entertainment very well performed. One thing bothers me though, she was wearing the wrong dress...

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006,  PG-13)
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
For once a second film that´s even better than the first (and that says something seeing that the first one was really good) but this one is just hilarious. I was laughing for ten minutes straight watching this in the cinema! Geez... what an ending.
40
Stormbreaker (Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker) (2006,  PG)
Stormbreaker (Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker)
Well... but hey it's basically mini James Bond, let's just throw all those books of reason and natural laws out the window! Then it's enjoyable.

As It Is in Heaven (Så som i himmelen) (2004,  Unrated)
As It Is in Heaven (Så som i himmelen)
A very Swedish film in all ways, but it has something unusual, a true warmth and characters that I believe in (despite some stereotypical simplifications) They feel like real people, and the final is among the best I have seen from any Swedish film ever.
46
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004,  PG)
47
Bend It Like Beckham (2003,  PG-13)
Bend It Like Beckham
A great teenage film, with friendships, loveproblems, football and different cultures. Great acting.

49
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002,  PG)
50
The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (2001,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring
Exeptional. Rarely have a movie looked this beautiful before and the cast is picture perfect (with the one exception of Liv Taylor who looks like a dressed up human rather than a real mystical being.) Viggo Mortensen was a true last minute luck streak and pretty much all of them seem born to play those characters. A triumph in modern filmmaking.
51
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone) (2001,  PG)
