Finding Neverland (2004,  PG)
Finding Neverland 5.0 Stars
This is extremely close to the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. The way it's focus is on imagination is just so great...we should all be reminded of our inner child, no matter how old, or who we are. Johnny's performance was just great. Something, yet again different than any other role of his and the way his inner child was shown was gorgeous. He was really just a boy inside a mans body. And Kate Winslet's performance in this has made her one of my favorite actresses. Her character she plays, Sylvia is just played so well, her acting is just superb and she just has such a motherly, natural look and feel about her.
This film is one that has gotten probably the most emotion out of me. The music just gets me every time...especially at the end! Finding Neverland just bursts with the words creativity and inspiration. It is definitely also a great movie to watch if you're in a down mood... It's so uplifting...and motivating. It gives me the warm and fuzzies :) BEAUTIFUL

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007,  R)
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street 5.0 Stars
What an amazing piece of work crafted by none other than the wizard himself...Tim Burton.

Full of ingredients like the amazing genius Steven Songtime's writings, the amazing, quirky, legend Johnny Depp, the wonderfully, amazingly talented Helena Bonham Carter, The legendary Alan Rickman and the great Sacha Baron Cohen all under the direction of as I said, the wizard himself Tim Burton you get a result of a mind blowing masterpiece that will have you stunned, thrilled and in awe for every second.

Sweeney Todd, like and unlike many musicals has an amazing, artistic darkness..as it is a tragedy.

Sweeney (who used to be Benjamin Barker) is a man who is so deeply emotionally damaged from when his family was literally ripped away from him. Now all Sweeney lives for is revenge by killing Judge Tupin...his loathed enemy, the one who was the cause for his years and years of emotional torture. The way Johnny pulls this off is just here comes that word again....amazing. Throughout the whole movie you can see the hurt Sweeney is feeling just in his eyes...Johnny acts this out so well and completely connects with Sweeneys feelings and just delivers it beautifully.

Mrs Lovett wishes Sweeney didn't think of killing so much, and rather more of her future with him. She is deeply in love with Sweeney who does not love her back and is constantly trying with her best efforts to have him fall in love with her. But Mrs Lovett also has a darkish side to her, just like Sweeney. Just because someone tried to blackmail Mr T and for it, got their throat cut...she sighs with relief when she finds out with the excuse of "thats a different matter" and says "for a moment there I thought you'd lost your marbles" which is a great joke because actually, in a way...he has. Helena really does a great job as Ms Lovett, really showing her character to the audience well.

This movie, all in all...just had me completely and utterly amazed...an old, legendary stroy...redone by another legend with a legendary cast. Most of said story told through song sung by many actors that people would not expect to be singers and they all did the most marvellous job. I give this masterpiece five starts...one that I will definitely be trying to go and see again and again...and eventually buy the dvd to watch again and again. One of Johnny's best...I really do hope he wins his long awaited oscar for this one...otherwise I dont know what he would win it for...

mind blowing

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005,  PG)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 5.0 Stars
Okay, I am finally reviewing this film!!

Tim Burtons remake of the classic Roald Dahl creation, "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" (amongst some of his other movies) contained many of the answers as to why I think he is one of the best film directors.

No, it is not just because he chose Johnny Depp to play the films main character, Willy Wonka.

To me, this movie showed one of the qualities of Tim that I admire greatly- and that is, when doing a remake of a film, not to do the same thing as the previous one, but to create something fresh, and original that people haven't seen before. To take the opportunity to really let his stuff shine. And with this movie, I think he did just that.

First of all, he chose the most beautiful style to shoot this movie in, giving it the real 'Burton feel'. He re-created the chocolate factory to give it a newer, fresher look, not just a mirror image of the previous film. The sets were absolutely breathtaking and full of imagination (not that the original's sets weren't) but Tim gave it a whole new feel.

Secondly, the cast he chose I think were just excellent choices- which I think he always does.
First of all, amazing Freddie Highmore...what an extraordinary little actor. And he actually, to me, looked like a more realistic Charlie. He looked "starved to death" as Willy Wonka put it- which is how charlie should look realistically. If he is a boy of a very poor family living on cooked cabbage everyday, then yeah! you think he would be quite scrawny and bony, which is what he looked like. Not some blonde, rosy-cheeked little lad who hardly looked malnourished at all which personally pissed me off a little in the original.
Freddie played the character of Charlie just like an under-priveleged chile would be like. He had a real open mind, unlike the others who were impatient because of how much they were spoilt. He had such an innocence about him and really did well with his role. Freddie has never failed to impress me.
And of course, Johnny Depp was an amazing choice for Willy Wonka. Tim knew him so well to know how versatile Depp is and that he would have a whole new, creative and original take on the character of Willy, making him very enjoyable and interesting to watch.
Good old Helena Bonham Carter just did an excellent job as Charlies mother. Her role wasn't huge but she really just hit it in the right spot- as always. Her fuzzy hair I think did really well in the movie and was very appropriate, seeing as though they were ridiculously poor. She had an excellent motherly quality about her.
The rest of the cast, like Noah Taylor...wow! Aussies very own and he did such a good job! And then of course, all the rest of the kids just did a FANTASTIC job...and looked like they had a lot of fun being complete brats!
And then, Christopher Lee playing Willy's Dad...yet another new original thing added by Burton..well just the name is enough said. He was perfecto!

Another thing I love about this movie is how Burton has added all of these other things to the story that weren't there in the original.
He first of all added a whole history in how Wonka found the oompa loompas- which was something originally in Dahls work that wasn't included previously. It was so interesting to see the answer behind why the oompa loompas where at the factory and it was dont in a real Dahl/Burton way with a real cute, humorous feel to it.
And the different ending also, I adored. The ending showed the making of amends between Willy and his father, which had a very funny history to it on how the father really wasn't there when Willy ran away. The trouble Willy had with his father did so much more for his character, making him the socially unstable, twisted guy he was, which basically showed the results of when a little child, who is meant to have fun and be a real child when they're young, is brought up in a way which is the opposite and restricting them from their child ways- it's asking for one screwed up person. And that was just what Willy was, which again, made his character that much more interesting and funny. Burton's amazing, wizard like mind and original ideas plus Dahls work is just asking for something truly magnificent and just asking for 5 stars. This movie is one of my favorite movies, and not just because of Johnny Depp. It demonstrated the typical genius ways of the mind of Tim Burton and gave it's audience a completely new taste to "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." Something un-predictable and surprising, over all giving me a very satisfied feeling after everytime I view this creative, dark masterpiece.
