The Marine (2006,  PG-13)
The Marine 3.0 Stars
This is a fluff action movie thru and thru. With a weak plot and some suspect performances you could rate it as a 1 star movie. However, its also great fun and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

As with WWE its really about switching your brain off and just enjoying the show. I watched it twice over 2 days and still really really enjoyed it. kinda brainless action fun like commando was in the eighties.

If you are looking for an action popcorn flick this is the one.

Harsh Times (2005,  R)
Harsh Times 5.0 Stars
I must admit that this is the sort of movie I tend to go for and I wasn't disappointed with Harsh Times. Sometimes the movies portray people very much as goodies or baddies whereas in reality everybody falls somewhere in-between.

Windtalkers (2002,  R)
Windtalkers 5.0 Stars
This film was universally panned by movie critics when it came out - and while it isn't a masterpiece - it is an entertaining war film with decent performances by Cage and the other cast. Some nice action sequences as well. A good film to rent .

S.W.A.T. (2003,  PG-13)

Colin Farrell and Samuel L Jackson are good actors but sometimes they sign on for really bad films. What attracted them to the so-called screenplay of "SWAT"?

Navy Seals (1990,  R)
Navy Seals 2.5 Stars
This film is o.k. Rent it if there isn't much else to see and you want to see Charlie Sheen and Michael Biehn running around shooting at stuff. Most of the other acting is kind of boring and the scenes don't lead to very much character development, but what it lacks in story telling it makes up for in action scenes.

8MM (1999,  R)
8MM 3.0 Stars
8MM is a dark view at human society today. It shows the underground porn-circuit,and more in detail the so-called "Snuff-movies" where people are actually taped on 8mm while being killed.

Operation Delta Force (1997,  Unrated)
Operation Delta Force 2.5 Stars
I liked this movie. It moves quickly with enough action to keep you on your toes. It actually has a plot. While the plot is a standard one it is interesting and handled fairly well. There is a twist in the ending and not the one I was expecting. Jeff Fahey turns in his usual solid performance.

Behind Enemy Lines (2001,  PG-13)
Behind Enemy Lines 3.0 Stars
I don't think this is really considered a "war movie" in the normal sense but it might as well be since it involves all military people and the focus is an American Navy pilot who is shot down over Bosnia and runs for his life while waiting to be rescued.

Rules of Engagement (2000,  R)
Rules of Engagement 2.5 Stars
When I saw how the mission unfolded, and how they were almost sitting ducks for the terrorists, I just thought: "Well, if they can't shoot back, whatever happened to smoke?" Smoke could have made it impossible for the terrorists to see what they were aiming for, but instead they kept taking bullets. And when enough was enough, they ended up with a massacre.

So I missed this aspect of the film. There was never questions how they could have done the job without exchanging bullets. It was as if Childers had only two options: kill or be killed. And then you end up thinking that the crowd had it coming, and it becomes another propaganda movie with crazy Arabs, sleazy politicians and spotless marines.

Jarhead (2005,  R)
Jarhead 2.0 Stars
This movie is a bunch of bullshit. The Marines are shown as a bunch of perverted bastards who are brainwashed and are stupid. I've got news- just because one egg is rotten, it doesn't mean the whole dozen is.

Vantage Point (2008,  PG-13)
Vantage Point 2.0 Stars
Vantage Point is a political thriller that looks at an assassination attempt on the US president from 8 different people's point of view. The idea is that by seeing the event from different people's perspectives, the "mystery" surrounding it can be revealed. It's an interesting (although not original) idea, and it could work very well if done properly. However, with Vantage Point, you can see that the "different perspectives" were just thrown in as a cheap gimmick to separate this from the rest of the s***ty thrillers flooding theaters these days. In actuality, the different points of view only make this movie worse.
