The Terminator (1984,  R)
The Terminator
"Technoir" - the name of the club Sarah Conner awaits her rescue. The perfect description for this relentless, dark, apocalyptic timetravel romance. One of my favorite Sci-Fi films of all time.

I was a huge fan of Mad Max which came out a few years before this did, so I have a thing for creative filmmakers with a good story but no money to run wild with. They have no time to waste on 20 minute Pod Races ! *rubs temples*. The story is tight and drives this engine full throttle from start to finish. I don't think there's spare second to "checkout" of the film from start to finish.

A great bad guy usually makes a film for me and Arnold was perfect and ONLY choice for the relentless killing machine he really does make the film. I also love how Cameron always delivers a woman who acknowledges her potential to be pretty hardcore.

Respectable female lead, excellent baddie, kick ass action, romance that isn't misplaced and doesn't make your eyes roll out of your head. For me its a perfect Sci-Fi action script where the passable special effects really are secondary to everything else.
I dare Mc G to have his CGI priviledges revoked and budgets cut to a quarter the size and try to come up with anything close to this.
