A bit of kiwi history here. Taken from an episode in the maori wars this film is well shot. Hard times indeed and the brutality of it all has been well laid out.

This is a great flick. Thoughful, with a wee twist to add that sting at the end. Nice!

Thi is a giggle from start to finish. Anybody who ever loved the Mini car must add this flick to their must see list. Real kiwiana from the days when life was less complicated.

Tough stuff when homelife aint what it should be. desperate father (lawence) does all he can to keep his girl. Good documentary evidence of how NZ was in this era -love the simplicity like the HQ cop car.

I was travelling around NZ when this was fresh and heard the motelier say to a tourist that this wasn't really what NZ was like. Sadly (or luckily?!) most people never see this side of their communities. With my job I get to see this type of behaviour all too often. This takes us right into the home of Jake the Muzz (morrison) where we witness the tragedy of life within. Raw stuff to make you squirm. Remember this is life as many people know it.

I love the cinematography in this movie. The NZ landscape is haunting and suits the feel of the story completely. Some great acting and the beginning of the carrer for the lovely Anna Paquin. Great stuff.

Great start to a great trilogy. Read the books and justice was done by the movies.

Jackson did a great job on the trilogy. Got the set on DVD.

I own the set. What NZer wouldn't say Peter Jackson's work rules?!!
Read the books many years ago and I was pleased with how close they kept to the story. Don't see that too often when books are filmed.

Filmed in God's Own, this is a thoughful tale of the senselessness of war. Cruise does a pretty good job here although I'm not a fan of hero's who learn skills studied over a lifetime in ten easy lessons. That's hollywood for ya.

This production seemed to be cursed when it began in NZ a few years back. Now that I've finally seen it I think it was okay viewing. A good snapshot of colonial NZ. Pleased I live in todays times really.

Very good stuff. A great movie and tackles the sexism in maoridom with care and attention. I'm not sure if Maori women feel more empowered after this hit the screen but it's good to see another side of the culture than maori wars and domestic violence. Some great acting will have your emotions rocking.

Quirky is probably the best way to describe this flick. Cormack plays this role well and you really feel for the young couple, just wanting the love and trust to return. It's essential on a cold night.

I'm not a big horror fan and this film had enough to make me smile (though not really laugh) that I thought it was okay. The horror scenes were well done but I found myself a little battered with the transition speeds between the humour and the horror.

Cult status for NZ in the early eighties. Who doesn't like an alien that eats mankind. What's great about this is the fact that they do it with a spoon! Classic stuff here!

Read the book when I was a pup -enjoyed it. Movie has NZ connection so I was excited at the chance to see it. Wasn't too bad but not as gritty as I recall from the pages. Don't know if I liked the children. They didn't convince me they were made of the right stuff.

Brand new so I haven't seen it yet. Heard good things about it though and I'm all in for supporting my fellow countrymen.

One of NZ's favourite cartoon characters thrown onto the big screen. Plenty of local music too sing along with too. Haven't seen it since it came out but probably worth catching with the kids.
