Creepy. I saw this one alone and my heart was probably beating 400 beats per minute. I liked it a lot. But I would not see it again because I know that would spoil it.

Cinema Paradiso (Nuovo Cinema Paradiso) (1988,  R)
Cinema Paradiso (Nuovo Cinema Paradiso)
This film made me cry - especially during the climax of the film when Toto was viewing the montage Alfredo made for him. I love the film to the core. I first saw the theatrical version at the cinema back in 89 or 90 (I can't remember exactly when) and truly loved it - but having seen the new extended version on DVD - this new version focuses on Toto's relationship with his long lost love ... questions are answered in the new version. Personally however, I prefer the theatrical one because some questions are just best left unanswered.

Cry, the Beloved Country (1995,  PG-13)
Cry, the Beloved Country
I saw this movie at first, because Dambisa Kente was in it. I met her years ago when she used to act with The Sibikwa Players (S.Africa). Her death (in real life) was untimely and she is dearly missed. I highly recommend the movie for the wonderful adaptation of the book. Wonderful casts and emotional story line.

Dr. Strangelove Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
Satirical - yes! But this movie has been way over-rated! Although I must admit, Peter Sellers is marvellous in this one ... but its dark humour can be a snoozer.

Mortuary (2006,  R)
Mortuary
The movie started off very well, and I actually enjoyed the first half of the movie - was actually intrigued by the mysterious character, 'Bobby F' who was believed to be abused and physically deformed by his parents when they were alive but Bobby F went missing and was believed to be lurking near where he once lived, responsible for the deaths of his parents. Then just as I was beginning to think I had my money well spent on the DVD, I was soon overwhelmed with disappointment when all the dead people waiting to be embalmed in the mortuary (starting from the town's beloved piano teacher) all came back to life as Zombies that spitted or vomitted some disgusting black liquid or fungi substance. The Zombies actually INFECTed others into becoming Zombies like themselves by spitting or vomitting the strange black liquid into others' mouths as those people (of course) scream with horror with their mouths opened (of course). I was laughing so hard at the ridiculous harebrained acts of some of the Zombies and the so-called victims alike. One (who used to be a caring mother and the woman who bought the old mortuary to start her embalming business) even made dinner for the other main characters after she became a Zombie. We soon were to find out there was an evil man-eating blob-like creature that was really responsible for all the evil doings. In the end or quite the end, all the Zombies and the blob-like creature were all exterminated by the fact that - surprise! surprise! - they were all SALT-INTOLERENT... how convenient.

A beautiful film - meaningful for its socio-entrepreneur aspects that these homeless kids were saved from the streets (in real life) - thanks to Mira Nair and friends. On DVD, I recommend the director's commentary for 2nd viewing. Mira Nair is a brilliant director.
