Anything even slightly left field, or a little twisted. Clever heist/thriller flicks welcome, maybe even a little degenerate...

Nothing to say, everyone knows this film is great...

Ocean's Twelve
I know, I"ll get flack for this, but I may have even like it better than the first one...

The Usual Suspects (1995,  R)
The Usual Suspects
Film's greatest whodunnit, with a cast to match.

The Thomas Crown Affair (1999,  R)

Fight Club (1999,  R)
Fight Club
While this is obviously an amazing film, casting, cinemtography, etc., I have only one complaint. For some an interesting and intriguing plot, the ending fell flat, and felt like the script-writer just got lazy at the end.

Hard Candy (2006,  R)
Hard Candy
To call this movie intense would be an understatement. The acting is literally some of the best I've ever seen - I understand why Ellen Page has been referred to as "Super-Human". The director's visual choices shouldn't be overlooked - simple, powerful and artistic. This film is beyond bold.

Blow (2001,  R)
Blow
Not usually a fan of these dark, degenerate (drugs, porn, mafia, etc.) flicks. But Johnny Depp does a great job, in making this film extremely watchable.

The Constant Gardener (2005,  R)
The Constant Gardener
A classic thriller wrapped in a true romance, moving, heartbreaking, endearing and beautifully shot.

Interesting film, should definitely be rented, with subtitles turned on. Yes it is in English...just trust me.

Confidence (2003,  R)
Confidence
Well-acted con film. Not as glitzy as others of this genre, but has great lines. "Sometimes Jake, style will get you killed."

Head-On (Gegen die Wand) (2005,  R)
Head-On (Gegen die Wand)
A sexy, intriguing film.

I Heart Huckabees (2004,  R)
I Heart Huckabees
Great movie, made the discussion of existensialism bearable, and even enjoyable - a feat i would have thought impossible. Great cast, and acting.
17
Syriana (2005,  R)
Syriana
Well written, executed and acted. I'm disappointed Ghassan Massoud passed on this film as I think he would have added an interesting dimension. A well-balanced and even-handed examination.

Gone Baby Gone (2007,  R)
Gone Baby Gone
I admittedly hadn't wanted to see this movie, but I was more than pleasantly surprised. As Affleck's directorial debut, this movie left a mark, intellectually and emotionally, a rare gift in modern day film.

Synecdoche, New York (2008,  R)
Synecdoche, New York
Sufficiently and delightfully weird in that signature Charlie Kaufman way.
20
Empire of the Wolves (2005,  R)
Empire of the Wolves
Beautifully shot, doesn't surprise me the director is more known for music videos. The plot was a bit dense, but I think it was handled well. Great actors, and the music was on point.

The Five Obstructions (2003,  Unrated)
The Five Obstructions
A brilliant chess match between two of the great minds of Danish cinema.
22
The United States of Leland (2004,  R)
The United States of Leland
Great cast and acting. Particularly enjoyed the existentialist overtones, a rare treat in a Hollywood pic.
23
Jindabyne (2006,  R)
Jindabyne
A well-cast, beautifully acted drama centred on issues of morality, adult relationships and race.
24
Mulholland Drive (2001,  R)
Mulholland Drive
Once you embrace Lynch's surrealist non-linear style, going along for the ride is a lot easier and enjoyable. With very little over-embellishment he keeps your eyes glued to the screen, keen to follow wherever it is he might lead you next.

Sleuth (2007,  R)
Sleuth
While others have complained Branagh's choice to contain all the action within the house as claustrophobic, I found it to be a clever choice that created a platform for the dialogue, which is the key factor of this film. It has made me quite interested in seeing the original.

The Dark Knight (2008,  PG-13)
