Mario Bava: Maestro of Macabre
Mario Bava is one of the greatest filmmakers ever..period! In fact he was more than just a director, he was a cinematographer, a visual effects inovator, screenwriter and the man could make a film with the budget of a sandwich look like it was made for millions of dollars.

Hercules in the Haunted World (1961, Unrated)
Iam not too big on the whole Sword and Sandle films. But Bava and Lees name brought me to this film. Its one of the most magically stunning films, visually. The story was fun enough also to keep my attention. The acting is hammy but who the hell cares with the visual orgasm this film gives. Bava fans take note....its one of his best in the visuals dept. |

La Ragazza che sapeva troppo (The Girl Who Knew Too Much) (The Evil Eye) (1963, Unrated)
Hailed as the first Giallo. But less seedier than the traditional giallo. The Girl Who Knew to Much is a fantastic film. The Bava look is full in effect! The thing that does suck for us English only speaking Chaps; as the film is spoken in Italian and subtitled. Now i could care less about reading subtitles, but when its Bava you want to absorb as much of the imagry as possible! Thats the only downside to this film. And truthfully its not even that bad of a thing. Theres plenty of suspence to allow the veiwer to admire the artistry the Bava so well crafts. |

Sei donne per l'assassino (Blood and Black Lace) (Six Women for the Murderer) (1960, Unrated)
Blood and Black Lace is a freakin masterpeice! Mario Bava fills this film with vivid colors and beautiful sets. He was a perfectionist, and it shows. He not only handled the direction of the film, he also did the lighting and set designs. He is truly an underrated Director, and thats a big understatment. He influenced everyone from Dario Argento to Francis Ford Coppola. And his name should be mention along with names like Hitchcock, Welles, Coppola, Lynch and any other respected known film director. |

Reazione a catena (A Bay of Blood) (Twitch of the Death Nerve) (1972, R)
Arguably the first film that could be considered a Slasher at least because of the first 45 minutes. But Bay Of Blood is much more than that. Although thin on story its definatly worth the while for the incredible Bava style. There are some beautiful images goin on in this pic. |

Gli Orrori del Castello di Norimberga (Baron Blood) (1972, PG)
BAron Blood is not the greatest Bava film ever made. But it is a fun time. There are some great set peices and the lighting as always kicks Dago ass. The Baron is creepy as hell...at least when hes still a decomposing wreck. But ultimatly he looses that creepy presence when he "regenerates" |
