The first real Marvel Comic book movie. I didn't even know this was a comic until recently. Still pretty good.

Howard the Duck 3.0 Stars
I remember watching this movie all the time when I was a kid. Now that I'm all growns'd up I don't think I would find the pleasure in it. My middle name is Howard so, when kids found that out I got called "Howard the Duck" a lot. I had that special bond with this movie I guess.

Captain America 2.0 Stars
This movie is probably the reason there is 6 years between Marvel movies. it was horrible and campy. It is hard to do Captain America and not come away being Campy. They tried... not hard enough though. But it is a definate "must see" for any marvel fan.

Blade (1998,  R)
Blade 4.0 Stars
The first Marvel movie to actually suceed with the fans. Even though most of the Blade fans didn't even know that the character was from the "Tomb of Dracula" comic book series. It was low budget and a dark film but it was good.

X-Men (2000,  PG-13)
X-Men 4.5 Stars
This movie helped kick start the comic to movie revolution. Thanks to Bryan Singer we are able to see our favorite Comic Characters portrayed on the big screen. X-Men did a fabulous job doing just that. Great Job!

Spider-Man (2002,  PG-13)
Spider-Man 5.0 Stars
I had my doubts about Tobey McGuire playing Spider-Man before I saw the movie. Afterwards I felt that noone else could have done it but Tobey. I wasn't crazy about the Goblin Mask but Mr. Dafoe did great anyway overshadowing the gay metal/plastic mask.

Definately better than the first. I think because of the budget. You can definately tell. Good vs. evil... it never gets old.

Daredevil 4.0 Stars
Most critics didn't like Affleck in the title role. I didn't mind. But, since he was only signed to one movie good luck getting him back. It didn't make enough for him to come back and I think he got a lot of crap for being a super hero. It was a good movie and the directors cut is even better.

Twice as good as the first. The way Bryan Singer interwove each character to actually have a good plot/story was amazing. Nice touch with elaborating on Wolverine's past.

Hulk (2003,  PG-13)
Hulk 4.0 Stars
Ang Lee did a fantastic job creating the world of Bruce Banner/Hulk. I didn't like the father being so involved... I didn't think his father was "Leader". Maybe I'll have to go read some comics to make sure but I think they changed that part. Very good movie and I think that it was just enough of the "Hulk Smash!!!" people were wanting.

The Punisher (2004,  R)
The Punisher 3.5 Stars
They did make this movie better than the one that preceded it starring Dolph Lundgren. I didn't like John Travolta in the role. I also didn't like the fact they took the Punisher out of New York and placed him in the "wild" location of Miami, FL. What is that? Who knows. The Punisher character made up for all the things I didn't like and Tom Jane did great.

Attention Directors! If you would like to know the formula for making a great Comic Book Interpretation for the average movie goe'r, please see Sam Raimi. I didn't know that it could get better after the first Spider-Man flick... but it did! Dock Ock! C'mon!

This was a good movie. Blade is Bad Ass! Jessica Biel as a vampire hunter? I didn't believe. Daughter of Whistler maybe. Ryan Reynolds provided comedic extra. But was it really needed?

Elektra (1989,  PG-13)
Elektra 3.0 Stars
They could have done so much better with this movie. Some things were likable and related to the Elektra comics but mostly it was made to fast and didn't give the writers time enough to develop a solid story.

Man-Thing (2005,  R)
Man-Thing 2.0 Stars
You can definately tell that this is a made for tv movie. I didn't even see Man-Thing until the movie was almost over. I understand it being an origin story but it really wasn't in terms of the origin. Man-Thing (the character) was pretty cool. He didn't look to corny. If your a fan you have to see it. I think DC won this one though with Swamp Thing.

Fantastic Four 4.5 Stars
Everything I expected. I didn't go in with a bunch of expectations and they exceeded them dramatically. The director didn't stray too far from the comic book origin story which was good. Casting was great too. "It's Clobberin' Time!!!"

Ultimate Avengers: The Movie (2006,  PG-13)
Ultimate Avengers: The Movie 4.0 Stars
At first I was upset that they included the "ultimate" story line but until I found that they also mixed in the original story I was satisfied. Best of both worlds I guess you would say. Very good movie and well worth the money I spent.

Ultimate Avengers 2: Rise of the Panther (2006,  PG-13)
Ultimate Avengers 2: Rise of the Panther 4.0 Stars
Good sequel... but didn't like the huge focus on Black Panther. Even though they followed the progession of the avengers by introducing Black Panther early they never were involved with Black Panther's struggle like this so early on. Anyway, they changed some stuff and this is coming straight from Marvel... Blows my mind and scares me to think if they made an Avengers Movie.

X-Men: The Last Stand 5.0 Stars
Outstanding! This might be the last in the franchise or it might not be. Excellent use of the new characters. ***Spoiler Alert*** It was hard to see some characters die. It eventually had to happen though... it happened in the comics so therefore it had to happen. Excellent ending to a trilogy. Watch out! Here comes a Wolverine Spinoff!

The Invincible Iron Man (2007,  PG-13)
The Invincible Iron Man 4.0 Stars
Kept some things classic and changed some other things like ... oh I don't know... major character... you know... The Mandarin!!! They made him a ghost! WTF! Some things are OK but when you completely change a character like that I have issues with it. Only because these are characters that have proven to "work" and since they get an hour and 1/2 to shine they feel they need to change major points of interest. I'm against change.

Ghost Rider 4.5 Stars
02-23-08 --Every time I watch it... Awesome! It was great how they brought in the "old" ghost rider from the golden age. Nicolas and Eva played great. Good, Good Movie! The extended cut DVD is awesome! Didn't really change the movie in terms of pace or feeling it just has good bonus features.

Spider-Man 3 (2007,  PG-13)
Spider-Man 3 5.0 Stars
Amazing, Spectacular & Sensational!!! This movie tops 1 & 2 and it ties up the two nicely. Having 3 villains in this movie did not make things "hard to follow". It was done with a fantastic flair! I thought having Gwen Stacey and her father Captain Stacey in this movie was a nice touch. For those that don't follow the comic books Gwen was Peter's 1st love and she was also the person that Green Goblin dangled from the New York Bridge and asked Spidey to make the "decisions that heroes have to make". That is when Gwen Died and Peter pursued MJ (the unattainable girl). In the movies they mixed the two characters into one (MJ) and now bam! there's Gwen Stacey in the mix causing Jealousy and everything. New Goblin wasn't as bad as I imagined. Sandman was done well. Venom was great. I thought they could have worked on a few things that I won't mention due to spoiling the movie. I could have done without the constant "showing of the faces" they did. But that's hollywood and you have to deal with it. In all, I loved this movie and I can't wait for it to come out on DVD so that I can watch it all the time.

Doctor Strange (2007,  PG-13)
Doctor Strange 4.0 Stars
12-26-07 --They did a great job with Doctor Strange. I was afraid they would change too much but just like the Marvel Animated Features before it they really took a little bit from everywhere. Wong wasn't bald? Why change that? Anyway, The Sorcerer Supreme had an origin story to tell and they did a good job telling it.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007,  PG)
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer 3.5 Stars
10-02-07 --First thing's first. The Silver Surfer is a great addition and we get to see the Fantastic Four in action. **Warning** This review might contain specifics that may spoil the movie for you. Not much because the movie is only 90 minutes long. That hurt it a bit. I'm a huge fan and I think they did ok with this sequel. It will take acouple more times watching it for me to really appreciate it. Here are the negatives: Too kid oriented. Doom was only Doom for like 5 minutes of the movie. Galactus is a freakin' Cloud. (I couldn't get over that) Jessica Alba looked fake with blonder hair and blue'r eyes. Galactus was a cloud! oh wait I said that already... Plot was too simple. Ok, there I said it. It truly pains me to write anything less than an excellent review for a Marvel Comic movie but it hurts when things are done so wrong with your favorite characters. Good things: Reed Richards was more like Reed Richards in this go around. The Thing looked a lot better except for wearing street clothes all but the last 15 minutes of the movie. The Surfer was bad ass and Johnny's Super-Skrull like powers were pretty decent. It will be in my collection when it comes out on DVD but Tim Story might want to seriously consider making an extended cut so that we can have some story in this movie. Stan Lee makes another amazing cameo! I will say that watching it for the second time was great! Can't wait to delve into the "special features".

Iron Man (2008,  PG-13)
Iron Man 5.0 Stars
05-04-08 --Absolutely Amazing! Probably the best Marvel Movie to date. They did it all the right way without any crazy notions of "Director's Vision" or marketing campaigns that would change the look and feel of the movie. Of course they updated some things and revised this and that but nothing too drastic. Jon Favreau stuck to the Comic Books as his Source material and that is why this movie will suceed. All the subtle hints were there. Tony's Alcoholism, Rhodey becoming War Machine, Love between him and Pepper, and even the overall theme of Tony Stark's idea that since he's doing it, it must be the right thing to do. I can't wait for 2 more. Oh and if you do see this movie you should stay past the credits. You'll see an extra scene with a Nick Fury played by Samuel L. Jackson. Good Stuff!
