Meet the 70s

There are also some films that are not strictly from 70´s but have the same spirit: Ranging Bull, Easy Rider, Midnight Cowboys, The graduate... Time of alternative American directors, European intelectual cinema, the best horror films, and rebellion against the system, particullarly by Vietnam war. Also the time when actors such as Dustin Hoffman, De Niro, Woody Allen, Paul Newman, Travolta, Al Pacino or Robert Redford were discovered or consolidated. At the end of decade, Lucas and Spielberg create a new concept: blockbusters.

The Godfather (1972,  R)

Apocalypse Now (1979,  R)
Apocalypse Now
It was a necessary film after Vietnam war, and because of that, almost forbidden by censorship. Good direction work of a master, and very good scenes that went into cinema story (Ride of Valkirie among them). However, it sometimes looks, more than a tribuite to Heart of Darkness, quite a sort of plagiarism.

Impossible to say anything, just laugh, laugh, laugh... As an annecdote, it was forbidden in Norway, fact what was used as an advertisement in Sweden.

Midnight Express (1978,  R)
Midnight Express
The only interesting point, images from Istanbul: they are always wonderful.
Now, I can explain it a little more. Some people think this movie is the expression of the suffering of a man, but I think, what do you learn from it? I like films in which you discover something about human behaviour: here, the only message it´s that there are places in which people is really bad, and that´s all. No other explanation. Turkish policemen are bad people, and there is no more reflection about why or what to do about that. Gratuite torture, make you feeling bad watching images of torture. Not much about human spirit. So, I found it boring. Maybe at the end it goes better, but I had to quit it because it was making me get asleep.

Maybe you are true, mkivu, but that is what Flixter is for, for the users to improve polls. I am going to look for movies of these directors at this decade, and put them there (but Makavejev, because I don´t know anything about him, so I couldn´t choose the famous/best films). Thanks a lot, and if you think any film is missing, recommend it to me by a message and I´ll put it.
