52 Pick-Up (1986,  R)
52 Pick-Up
Though a bit weak on plot execution at times, overall this was an enjoyable action thriller. John Glover was rather Malkovichian in his villainy.

12
The Big Red One (1980,  PG)
13
Blow Dry (2001,  R)
Blow Dry
This movie, like American Gigolo, seemed much better the first time I watched it.
14
The Blue Max (1966,  Unrated)
The Blue Max
George Peppard was a bit ridiculous as a German officer, but he played a good antihero. Overall the acting was very good, the war scenes excellent, and the air cinematography superb.
15
Border Lost (2008,  Unrated)
Border Lost
Despite overall poor acting, this movie delivers. It's a gritty, vigilante, shoot-em-up flick that gives the viewer some insight into the everyday life on the US/Mexican border.

Some good music in the Christmas Story-on-crack tale of a disturbed boy.
20
Cabaret (1972,  PG)
21
The Cement Garden (1992,  Unrated)
The Cement Garden
A bit disturbing but a good movie nonetheless. I especially liked the detached narration while Jack read his book.
22
Chaos (2005,  R)
Chaos
Nicely directed action pic that could've been even better if it didn't get a bit silly and predictable toward the end.
23

24
Christina's House (2000,  R)

41
Tang shan da xiong (Fists of Fury) (The Big Boss) (1972,  R)
42
The Front (1976,  PG)
The Front
Refreshing to see a serious subject handled in a comedic manner. A typical Woody Allen feature.
43
Les Raisins de la mort (The Grapes of Death) (1978,  Unrated)
44
Guinevere (1999,  R)
Guinevere
an older man seduces young women, drastically changing their lives in the process - is it masterful manipulation, or genuine caring?
45
Gypsy 83 (2004,  R)
46
Gung Ho (1986,  PG-13)
47
The Guru (2002,  R)
The Guru
When I saw the previews for this I thought it looked absolutely stupid so I was not expecting much. What I got, despite it's hokey humor at times, was a film that ended up being quite charming.
48
The Guns of Navarone (1961,  PG)
49
Hannah and Her Sisters (1986,  PG-13)
50
Heaven Can Wait (1978,  PG)

55
Howards End (1992,  PG)
56
Human Nature (2002,  R)
Human Nature
I always enjoy movies that can make societal statements in a comical manner.
A bit slow to develop, but by the end all the symbolism and character idiosyncrasies lead up to the hilarious final scene.
57
The Human Stain (2003,  R)
The Human Stain
we're supposed to believe Anthony Hopkins has black blood? - please; ruins an otherwise good movie
58
If These Walls Could Talk (1996,  R)

Well-done movie on a powerful subject.
59
The Importance of Being Earnest (2002,  PG)
60
In Pursuit of Honor (1995,  Unrated)
In Pursuit of Honor
It's always good to see people fight for what's right and this Depression-era story is a prime example.
61
Japanese Story (2003,  R)
62
The Josephine Baker Story (1990,  R)
63
Kill Cruise (1990,  R)
Kill Cruise
Has perhaps the most out-of-left field ending I have ever seen. I can only imagine that there is a great deal of material missing in the final cut that explains the love triangle that certainly must have went on. A different ending with the material we were presented would have been so much better. Extremely reminiscent of Dead Calm.
64
Killing Zoe (1994,  R)
Killing Zoe
I was expecting a bit more from this based on Roger Avary's other work. Some parts were good, but others were just humdrum. The music helped keep pace with the action. I thought this movie was more widely seen than what the number of reviews here indicates.
65
Kissed (1997,  R)
66
Lawn Dogs (1998,  R)
67
The Loss of Sexual Innocence (1999,  R)
The Loss of Sexual Innocence
More of an artistic expression than a movie due to it's non-linear storyline and lack of a real plot. And, while this may not be for everyone, I found it to be a fine example of filmmaking. Rife with symbolism and a beautiful classical score, I would recommend this to film purists.
68
Love Letters (1999,  PG-13)
69
Of Love and Shadows (1996,  R)
70
A Love Song for Bobby Long (2004,  R)

80
The Misfits (1961,  Unrated)
81
Monsieur N. (2003,  Unrated)
Monsieur N.
Very well-done historical tale surrounding the potential mystery regarding Napoleon's death. Though it turned a bit too "whodunit" in the middle, the ending brought the movie back to what it did best - atmosphere - with it's beautiful music and directing.
82
Murder by Death (1976,  PG)
83
Nashville (1975,  R)
84

Pie in the Sky
cute romantic comedy
95
Played (2006,  R)

The majority of this movie wasn't anything too special, but the last 1/3 or so really picked up and became a gritty little action flick. The open ending set to Erik Satie's beautiful "Gymnopedie No. 1" was cool.

113
Sounder (1972,  G)

Not sure that I agree with all the award nominations that went along with this movie, but it was very good and the whole cast was good as well.

128
Venus Beauty Institute (1999,  R)
129
The Weight of Water (2001,  R)

The Woman in Red (1984,  PG-13)
132
You Kill Me (2007,  R)
133
Wild Side (2005,  Unrated)

Very well-directed glimpse into the intertwined lives of two bi males and the transsexual they both love. Ironically, Yasmine Belmadi died in a scooter accident this summer; his character tells Mikhail about a serious accident he had on a scooter.
134
High Anxiety (1977,  PG)
High Anxiety
Your typical Mel Brooks movie - silly fun.
135
Airport (1970,  G)

This movie started out very slowly, focusing primarily on character development and giving an excellent glimpse into the everyday operations of a major aiport. But once the action picked up, and the characters were fleshed out, it turned out to be quite entertaining.
