I knew it would be corny, but I enjoyed it!
I stood in line with the girls and moms for three hours in the cold November night to see the 12:01 showing. I was expecting more of an experience with the 99.99% female audience, 96% of those college and high school.
A mom asked me what I thought the scream rating would be and I was hoping it would blow the roof off. But Twilight is not the modern day Beatles, I guess. The main part of that was the film itself.
It started with voice overs by Bella, quiet and subdued. It seemed to catch us all off guard. But sucked us in so fast. And most of the movie we seemed to sit there with our jaws on the floor or writhing with desire.
I did not really care for the adapted screenplay, being such a fan of the book. I also knew that there would never be an on-screen performance or image that matched the one in my mind. But I am fine with that.
I think the movie stands somewhat on it's own, where the books leave such a strong desire for more of the continuing story.
There is so much emotion and struggle within that it is impossible to translate that to the screen. I was really letdown by how fast the movie breezed through my favorite scenes in the book, especially the first day in the cafeteria, Biology class and the crash.
I did like the cast more than I expected. I thought their performances were fine with what they had to work with and the direction that they had. The humans were too perfect looking imo. So yes, there was a difference between them and the Cullens but I would like to see it more pronounced. But that is just me. The humans were very nicely dressed, whitened teeth, perfect hair, etc.
Stewart's throat is delicious, especially in the prom dress.

Australia 7.79/10
an artist who likes to take his time.
"outback epic," - good!
actor performance/added to movie
Hugh Jackman - great/good
Nicole Kidman - wonderful/good
David Gulpilil - beautiful/great
Jack Thompson - funny/good
Brandon Walters - beautiful, tender, funny, etc./great
round up: 8/10
long like a mini series.
cheesy sometimes in a soap opera posing kind of way
takes us back in time, effectively, and reminds of Rabbit Proof Fence
Hugh is the man and Nicole looks wonderful
In an inverse way of Romeo + Juliet into modern times, this is time travel back and it is good
Not much new or really interesting/show stopping but effectively entertaining in a epic drama

My best friend recommended this too me about 5 times. I finally looked for at saw it was one of Oprah's books of the month. It was a fast read. Sat night - Monday night. I loved it. One of the best books I've ever read. It's by Cormac McCarthy, who wrote All The Pretty Horses and No Country For Old Men. Can't wait to see the movie. The Road won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction!!
The Coen brothers thanked him profusely at the Oscars.
Ridley Scott also has a version of Comac's book Blood Meridian, which hopefully will make it out in 2009.

I haven't even heard of several of these movies - nice! Now I can add them all to my Netflix queue :)

well, I can see several which I personally am also interested in, including The Time Traveler's Wife (amazing book), Australia, not to mention Choke (which looks interesting) and the Cloverfield sequel.
