Cold Mountain (2003, R)
The chemistry between Kidman and Law is breathtaking but watching Zellweger as the rough, feisty and loudmouthed Ruby was a real treat. She makes Kidman look like a deer caught in headlights most of the time. Also I wouldnt miss any masterpieces from Anthony Minghella who directed The English Patient and Talented Mr Ripley. He makes films in the most beautiful locations! It is a real pity that the gifted director had passed away. Anyone who enjoys watching the Civil War period/epic romance movies, would treasure this one. I find this a well crafted film from start to finish. |

Frankie & Johnny (1991, R)
An honest love story with a moving ode to loneliness. Michelle Pfeiffer in my eyes is one of those true beauties of Hollywood, but here she plays and ostensibly plain, cynical and depressed waitress. She has had her fair share of destructive relationships. She has shut herself down emotionally and rather stay home with her VCR and send out for pizza. So naturally she is dubious of Johnny's romantic intentions. Pacino plays this charming" I don t want to date but I want to love and be married" character Johnny. I have seen so many of Pacinos' films involving crime and drugs, so I was surprised by his choice of role here. He does have a real flair for comedy though. This is not a sweep you off your feet kind of love story but rather an optimistic and a realistic one. |

Romeo + Juliet (1996, PG-13)
Stylish and visually brilliant, this modern adaptation of Shakepeare's classic. Can t expect any less from the bold and flamboyant one, Director Baz Luhrmann gave this 400 year old play a comtemporary shake .DiCaprio and Danes are amazing as the star crossed lovers. An interesting movie, combining Shakespearian dialogue with modern imagery. Movie quotes from Romeo: Did my heart love till now. Tempt not a desperate man. |

Titanic (1997, PG-13)
The Titanic. Unsinkable, it was claimed until an iceberg changed everything. I don t think I will ever get bored of this movie. When it came out in 1997, I saw it for the very 1st time, I was in awe. Still am. The cinematography and the special effects kept me riveted. It gives you the feeling of almost being there on the ship itself. A visual grandeur indeed. The 2 leads were superb, amazing chemistry. To date, my favourite scene is where L.DeCaprio and Kate Winslet flying at the ship's front. The sinking of the great ship is no secret and certain scenes were so hauntingly sad .Every creak and groan of the ship was audible when watching it on a good quality DVD. |

The Last of the Mohicans (1992, R)
Action, romance, war, and passionate, intriguing drama. An epic to be reckon with.A timeless tale of the 18th century frontier and the virtue and tragedy that results when the uniquely different cultures of the French, English, Native Americans, and colonists collide. Daniel Day-Lewis and Madeline Stowe were brilliant here, they delivered their roles as Hawkeye and Cora Munro. |
