Alien
Ridley Scott created the definitive film for the sci-fi genre.

It's a psychological thriller in deep space. It has a simplistic plot, but it works because the truly wonderful of this film it's the atmosphere achieved by the fantastic sets builded up by the art department (you gotta love that retro future in the old space based movies). And of course, the astonishing alien design by H. R. Giger.

Great suspense and claustrophobic feeling, also the tension never diminish through the enterely film. It's the finest monster movie ever made.

RoboCop
From my childhood, unlike kids from today, I remember growing up watching violent movies and action heroes like RoboCop.

Paul Verhoeven, a truly master of violence gives us in his first american film an excellent action secuences loaded with guns and blood directly so well, that the low budget for this film didn't affect the quality of itself.

The believable portrayal of an android tormented by flashing memories of his past life, is managed perfectly by Peter Weller who brings the contradiction of a murdered man trying to remember who was he and the pain of losing everything he loved in life.

Kudos to the special effects, specially the ED209 and the stop-motion feature that fits perfectly with the threatening figure this robot is. Not to mention the excellent design of Robocop himself.

Also great addition was the score by Basil Poledouris, maybe with a few let downs, but a fine musical theme you keep whistling when the movie is over.

Robocop maybe was a reflect of the decadent 80's but also was the consagration of one the best action and violent movies of that period.

"Dead or alive, you're coming with me".

The only watchable thing in this film is Gary Oldman's superb performance and the Academy didn't even considered him for an Oscar nomination. Bastards.

The Thing
Amazing work from John Carpenter, he manages to create a thriller with a terrifying atmosphere full of suspense and paranoia where anyone could be "the thing".

It has great special effects, full of gore and grotesque transformations but handle with great direction that the movie don't fall in a cheesy B-movie. The main theme by Ennio Morricone grows up the tension perfectly.

From the crew, I totally love the dog's performance. The way it keeps indifferent to the camera and stay so cool in every shot adds a creepy feeling that makes believable the possibility of a criature walking around.

One of my favorite horror movies.
