Australia (2008, PG-13)
Unfortunately way too many fake looking shots (including bad green screen). The bad guy(s) weren't that distinctive nor was the story or the score. Moulin Rouge was a masterpiece, I expected the first real epic movie since 10 years, but it wasn't (at all) :( |

The Wrestler (2008, R)
100% standard Hollywood movie (you saw that story a million times) but (or exactly because of that) I loved it. Sad as hell. Great atmosphere (I'm not into that social environment in real life at all obviously). Great ending. Can't wait to watch it again on DVD. |

Slumdog Millionaire (2008, R)
(Again) not as great as I hoped it would be. Again 100% standard Hollywood story (which I usually like)... but the atmosphere didn't quite catch you... Afterall it was a little bit too much about the "Who wants to be a millionar" stuff. |

Star Trek (2009, PG-13)
Finally a good summer blockbuster again. Sure, it was pure fast food entertainment, but great at that. The first Trek movie I was looking forward to. Probably has nothing to do with Star Trek (more Star Wars), but I don't really care about that. The only thing which came a little short was the score and the villain. |

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 (2009, R)
Unfortunately this another Scott movie (after Deja Vu) which base (story) just doesn't really do it... Besides that it's good to see Scott at least comes back with a little bit of his "new old style" (which he perfected in Man on Fire and Domino), but overall most of it looked like any other movie. Tony, please! Make another visual art masterpiece like Domino (hopefully with the Warriors remake). |
