Movies about toys, technology and the military-industrial complex

Toys used to based on movie characters (think of the original Star Wars action figures...), but one day in the 1980s, something happened: movies started to be based on toys, and more so, became commercials for them as cross-marketing strategies hit disturbing new lows. In the meantime, however, there's been some excellent commentary (intended and otherwise) that these films (and some that have caught on to the idea) have provided about the link between war, technology and toys in consumer society. We went from collectible Han, Chewie and the gang to a movie about pod-racing and Jar Jar Binks designed to do NOTHING BUT sell more toys. The point: our kids are totally f'ed.

If you think of a movie I'm missing from my list, please just leave it on my message board next time you stop by. Thanks!

Every propmaker and set designer in the world dreamed of making this movie. It's wacky, but it might be brilliant - a very interesting depiction of industry with an understated Robin Williams. Levinson and Williams can't miss together: this is a great movie for rewatching and rethinking, likely for weeks at a time.

I expected at least a little disappointment and a little cheese. There was actually less than expected. The car chase is so intense: not only are they self-piloted supercars, and not only are two people in the cars hanging on for dear life, you're on the edge of your seat because you just know that on top of all this, they have yet to turn into super-robots! Made me feel like a kid again when I left the theatre for the first time since The Rock.
