I have found a new love for Penelope Cruz. The English speaking roles I have seen her in didn't really stand out to me, but she was incredible in Volver and she looked stunning too! I heard that Almodóvar padded out her bum slightly because she'd adopted an 'L.A' figure, but it is very subtle.
The story is very quirky, touching, sad, funny... It's a very female heavy movie, the few men involved have only minor roles. The colour Red is very prominent too, it features in nearly every scene whether it be the clothes the characters are wearing or props and scenery.
Volver is a breath of fresh air that you seldom find stateside.

I think the humour in this movie is an acquired taste. It's not obvious like early Jim Carrey and it's not gross-out like American Pie. I thought it was quite subtle, or maybe I was just tired? There are still lots of jokes, mostly a play on words. Maybe the actors came up with the jokes themselves because most of them are comedians? Regardless, I laughed but not over-the-top laughter. I still thought this was a very good movie and quite realistic too. Bens change from immature stoner to responsible parent-to-be is sweet. It's not quite beauty and the beast; Katherine Heigl is very beautiful but Seth Rogen is not the most unattractive man I have ever seen. But in terms of Ben and Alison's personalities they are not a match made in heaven. However, the relationship that blossoms between them is very touching and by the end of the movie I had a permanent smile.

Not a bad movie, and kinda makes you want to be a vigilante! The ending was a bit 'meh' though. Worth a watch.

I thought that after A History Of Violence, Cronenberg would struggle to better or even match what he accomplished. A History.. was superb, but so was Eastern Promises! The style was incredible, and I loved the very British feel. The Cronenberg / Mortensen teaming is a great one!
Set in London, Naomi Watts (an excellent performance and great British accent) is caught in the middle of a shocking revelation involving a dead girl's newborn baby and organised crime at the hands of a notorious Russian family. Viggo Mortensen (another amazing performance) is the family's 'driver' who is expected to take more onboard than the average driver would. The movie is full of thrilling and disturbing revelations, and I was gripped throughout! It has a fair bit of graphic violence as you'd expect from Cronenberg, but it's done in such a way that you will experience minimal squeem... Unless of course you really can't deal with violence! A big admiration has to go to Mortensen for the sauna fight scene. It was a very brave thing to do, you will see what I mean when you watch it. An ultimately brilliant movie that very almost matches A History.., which in my eyes is Cronenberg's masterpiece!

A documentary based around San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, the worlds most 'popular' suicide destination.
Viewer; Take heed. It does not tread lightly around the subject. We are shown real images of people taking their own lives in between interviews with their family members and friends. What lures these fragile souls to this bridge? As one friend of a man who took his life says, it's the "romanticism".
It's a very brave and thought provoking film, and dare I say beautiful with its shots of the bridge.

I think I must have such a warped, depraved mind... I thought this was fucking hilarious, but I love John Waters anyway so it was inevitable!!

Trashy, sick, filled with controversy... Just how I like my comedy!

A beautifully funny, sweet and clever slice of pie. I enjoyed every moment of it, a must see!

I was interested in reading what other people had to say about this movie until I started reading all of the negative comments about how the students stories weren't 'interesting' enough and it was boring... The whole fucking point of it is that it's an ordinary school with ordinary students, that's what makes it so interesting and the finale more disturbing! For those that don't know this movie was inspired by the Columbine school massacre, so we know exactly how it's gonna turn out. Part of me was hoping that the actual massacre would be more suggested than depicted but the violence made it even more shocking and tragic. The style of the movie was brilliant, with only about 20 or so minutes of actual school time shown from different students view points. I'm still not quite sure why this movie is called Elephant... I did spot a picture of an Elephant in the movie but I guess there must be a deeper meaning? Not an easy watch at times but a must see...

A modern day movie with an old western twist. Very sweet and subtle in places, it makes certain plot developments more surprising. Beautifully shot with great performances.

A very touching movie with great, realistic performances and very real humour. The death of a hitchiker leads Alex, a man with his own demons to the victims mother, Linda. She is autistic and grieves in a very different way to Alex. Linda insists Alex stays with her at least until 'trash day', because she doesn't like to touch trash. A wonderful relationship blossoms between them, and also between Alex and Linda's neighbour Maggie. Between them, they help Alex come to terms with his past. An incredible movie!

If I had to compare this to another movie, i'd have to say American Beauty in the fact that picturesque suburbia is not always what it seems. Beautifully shot, great cast, interesting plot twists. Some people have mentioned the humour. I personally didn't find it funny, at times I even found it quite uncomfortable to watch. Jackie Earle Haley was brilliant as the creepy, self loathing sex offender. One scene in particular in which he goes on a date was very shocking. It seemed most of the characters in the movie were looking for some kind of redemption. A very good movie.

I was disturbed by Dench's creepiness, and Blanchett was amazingly naive. There were some incredibly uncomfortable moments between the leads, which made this an excellent psychological drama.

Fun

Not crazy, but quite a cool movie!

Starts off as a very funny movie with Capote's catty remarks and constant gossiping, but becomes something intense and tragic by the end. It's ability to shed light on a convicted murderer is incredible.

I can't truely rate this because I had to turn it off after 15 minutes. It infuriated me how militant christians are brainwashing these poor kids. I myself am an atheist yet open minded to peoples views, however I couldn't watch another second of this

Not a bad movie, some really great plot developments and Costner doing something well again! It justifies the 18 rated title towards the end. Demi Moore was also good, but I agree with another reviewer about the shoot out scene... Pretty comical for the wrong reasons!

I think maybe you need to have read the book to appreciate the movie?? I thought it looked good, but found it quite boring! Great music though...
