I tell you, the things we do to make it in this world; Anyhow, Theresa Randle plays this actress who won't take off her clothes for a role, but due to short money ends up becoming a phone sex operator and becomes a success at it even though there is someone stalking her as well. Spike Lee's take is an interesting piece.

A cop(Carl Weathers) gets up with a woman with problems of her own(Vanity) in Detroit to track down a cold blooded killer. This is one of Sharon Stone's first movies. Plenty of action.

Let's Do It Again (1975,  PG)
Let's Do It Again 4.0 Stars
During the 70s blaxpoitation era, there were some actors who were doing their best to have some good quality movies and Sidney Poitier was one of them. He teams up with Cosby(pre Cosby)as a pair of men taking a skinny sapsucker of a man(Jimmie Walker)and making him into a prizefighter by just doing a little Pavlovian trick, making promoters and others very angry at them. Very funny and entertaining.

Edge of the City (1957,  Unrated)
Edge of the City 5.0 Stars
A interesting study of two men who are friends and work on the railroad yards. simple enough, but one is white(Cassavettes)and one is African American(Poitier) and it's the 1950s. They get along and he meets Poitier's family, but things get ugly when Poitier is killed on the job, and Cassavettes know the deal. A dillemma is at hand, to tell or not to tell. One of the best movies out there.

Gloria (1980,  PG)
Gloria 5.0 Stars
You just can't help but love this film; It's not pretty, but you cannot help but feel for the folks. Anyhow, a whole family is wiped out by the mob(they saw it coming due to Dad's dealings as the accountant), and the only survivor to it is a young boy barely ten years old who has no other option but to cling to Gloria (Gena Rowlands), a gangster's moll herself; John Cassavettes(who is married to Rowlands)directed this gritty film.

Idlewild (2006,  R)
Idlewild 3.5 Stars
I like this movie; You have these two men(Outkast) who work at a club called Church(quite ironic if you ask me). It's the 30s, and not too many white folks in sight and things get a bit hairy for the pair. For one thing, the local gangster gets killed by one of his own(Terrance Howard)and he's after Big Boi, while Andre falls in love with the featured singer.

I remember the first time I watched this; It was interesting then as it is now. Voight is a journalist in Germany that covers a Jewish man's suicide on the same day that President Kennedy's killed; Reading a journal left by the man, he becomes intrigued by it and uncovers a undercover operation for former Nazis and is tagged to infiltrate it.

Mildred Pierce (1945,  Unrated)
Mildred Pierce 4.5 Stars
I always enjoy a good Joan Crawford movie, and this one doesn't fail to disappoint. Crawford plays this wife who loses her youngest daughter and marriage, then turns around and starts up a chain of restaurants. Her oldest daughter is a spoiled selfish brat. Borrowing money from the waitresses at her mom's business, not pulling her weight when she should, making the maid wear a uniform and taking men from her momma. A regular piece of trash. Stuff gets funkier when Crawford marries Zachary Scott and baby wants him too. Almost had the momma in deep water behind it. Your regular average tear jerker.

I kind of like this film because Wendy surely knows what she wants and how to get it, but love has a way of getting involved and this film shows how that can come about. one of the earliest films dealing with women empowerment.

Love Affair (1994,  PG-13)
Love Affair 5.0 Stars
Nice updated remix of the same movie done in 1939, 1957(as An Affair to Remember) and now. This time, Warren plays a gigilo with a cushy job on his way to meet his sweetie, and he meets Annette Benning instead who he just becomes real fascinated with. Against her better judgment, she gets with him, but not without a fight. Katherine Hepburn has a cameo as his aunt in this flick which makes it worth the while.

It Happened One Night (1934,  Unrated)
It Happened One Night 5.0 Stars
One fast moving film. If ya blink, you'll miss what's up. Anyway. Claudette Colbert plays an heiress who doesn't want to get married and hits the road. Along the way, she gets up with Clark Gable, who's a reporter about to get her number if she would just keep still. One of the most dated things about this movie is when they go to the hotel or rest stops and they put a sheet between them for privacy and the fact they weren't married. The ending will make you smile though. One of sure sleepers of 1934 that ended up with Oscars. Another part is when Colbert lets up a smidgen of her dress to hitch a ride. Oooh wee. those days are surely gone.
