Some movies I need to see again. Some of them are here because are amazing, some of them because I thought they were really bad two years ago or so and now I need to check them out to see if I still think they are horrible. And some of them because I don't remember anything about the movie, except that I watched it.

My Summer of Love (2004,  R)
My Summer of Love
"My Summer of Love" is a very good movie about trust, faith, lies, disillusion, learning from our mistakes. It also talks about being free to love whoever you want and free to have sex with a person of the same gender. All actresses and actors are really really good. Although the story is very simple and it slowly takes us inside a strange world where these two young women are completely out of the reality of life. So that's also speaking about the fear of being just what you are and not a fake person created from one's imagination. (Blunt's part) What makes this movie so beautiful is its minimalist point of view through the way it was realized or directed. Many scenes are pure Art. And it turns up to approach poetry on screen and that's great.

Dogville
I found 'Dogville' very interesting. The most interesting part is the turn of events. How a small town in equilibrium gradually reaches catastrophe is shown marvelously, with everything happening very much according to human needs and psychology. An immigrant into a small town slowly finds her way into the people's hearts. But, in such a situation, everyone could not be satisfied for long. Things begin to worsen, which has been shown really well, starting from a child to an adult to an old man. Conditions are put forward for the safety of the immigrant, which brings us to the another very interesting part of the movie. How an immigrant who shall emotionally feel more secure at a new place as time passes is demanded of more, has been shown in a way, which looks very natural and thus appealing. One of the best scenes of the movie is towards the end, when Tom is shot by Grace herself. Tom was subtly responsible for all the miseries Grace had to face at Dogville, though he was the one to save her. One can argue on this matter, whether he was a criminal or not. I would term Tom as a criminal for being so nonchalant to the exploitation of Grace by the people. This is a powerful movie which shall definitely leave an impact on the world, before it is, if ever forgotten. I give it a full score for the direction, acting and the story which are all equally wonderful.

After Hours
Such a dark, ironic and uncomfortably funny string of events plus a large helping of bizarre, paranoid and unpredictable characters have never before been forged into one story.
The film follows Paul Hacket (Griffin Dunne) on a date from hell, where from square one it all goes horribly wrong. As we move on, the mood winds up into a frenzied nightmare as this poor mans' plight goes from bad to worse. "All I want to do is go home" he says, running for his life from an angry mob.The story isn't complex, which you may think could bore, but the characters are so delightfully wacky that you can't help but be transfixed.

Pleasantville (1998,  PG-13)
Pleasantville
Some critics here are saying the movie takes itself too seriously - but I believe some people are taking it too literally. ... Saying that the topics that are addressed have no impact on society anymore, clearly misses the point. ... The 50s -- or more specifically, 50s TV -- is used as a metaphor, because of the way 50s TV portrayed life in America. ... Thematically, this movie is about "Living Life" to the fullest, whatever that means. More specifically, to live life to the fullest -- to truly feel "alive" -- you need to take the good with the bad. Sweeping things under the rug and just acting "pleasant" all the time, is no way to live. That's what Tobey McGuire's speech at the end to his "real" mother is all about. Bad things happen, it's part of life. Having passion brings with it positives and negatives -- but suppressing true feelings for the sake of "pleasantness" is an empty life. THAT is the key ... and that "issue" is everlasting to the human condition.
Another point: People fear change. This is universal from the start of time until the end of time. The film suggests that changing and growing as a society and as people -- even if scary -- is good. Just because the 50s were used as a metaphor for that, don't believe for a minute this isn't a universal issue that exists today and forever.
This is not a perfect film. I liked its subtlety, but then the racism correlation, and the censorship stuff, got a bit more overt. The courtroom scene at the end is a bit cliche ... and I also agree with one poster who said that, to make the point about taking the good with the bad, we should've seen a bit more about the consequences of their actions.
