I like very few chick flicks, but this was pretty interesting. And I am very traditional. I am not satisfied if they dont get married at the end, and most dont, so bonus for that. The best chick flick in a modern setting since Kate and Leopold imo.
This was excellent. I really dont know why it has such a bad reputation. I was told never to watch the third or fourth, or I would regret it. Well, I definitely dont. Not as good as Aliens, but, to me, better than Alien. And it will most likely remains my second favourite of the series since I have only Alien: Resurrection left to watch, and I can already tell the masses are right about that one, but with only one movie left I'll watch it anyway.
I liked the concept of the movie being set on a prison planet with very weakly converted inmates and no weapons, definitely added something new. Also, all the corridors and vents of the prison really felt like we were back on the Nostromo. As someone else said, the claustrophobic feeling is back from the first movie.
Pretty interesting, and would have made a great episode if it was shortened, since the first part was pretty slow anyway, but as a movie...wow, how unspectacular.
This wasnt what I expected at all. It was a great mix of action/comedy, which I really love. Yes, corny, but oh so entertaining. I just didnt like Maria's question at the end, about banks in Europe. They were the good guys because they were trying to save their country from corrupt Americans, but they have no reason to go to Europe and start robbing banks there.
This is the definition of heartwarming, and a lot of fun. Its not typical Burton. I originally watched it only because it was Tim Burton, but that ended up not having much to do with why I like it. Undoubtedly he did a good job, and it was quite strange, but very light. Lighter than anything else I have seen from him, including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Even Helena Bonham Carter didn't seem the same. They were all still great, and even refreshing. Just dont judge it by its director, for good or bad.
I love this movie. I have watched it so many times!
Only a mild Bollywood touch, but if you have never seen a Bollywood movie before, this might seem a bit outrageous and corny to you. Its a lot of fun, and although its completely modernized, they managed to keep the storyline faithful. The main differences that I noticed was the conversation where Mrs. Darcy tells Lalita to stay away from her son is missing, but it did make it onto the DVD as a deleted scene. It was a great scene. And also, when Lakhi (super cute girl) ran off with Wickham, Darcy didnt save her by paying for a marriage, but by punching Wickham a few times and bringing Lakhi home, which was also a great scene. In today's day and age, it is not as much of a disgrace for a girl to disappear for a few days, and the situation was salvagable without marrying her off .
It would be hard to have a modernization of P&P set outside of India. I am only slightly curious how they managed to do it in the 2003 version.
The Bollywood actors' acting seemed a little melodramatic compared to the American actors, with the exception of Naveen and Indira who have more experience with American acting. But it didnt seem bad because that's just the way Bollywood is. It was just more noticable with a mixed cast. The only acting complaint I actually have is with Alexis Bledel, who is perhaps the most famous person in this movie, but all her scenes made me cringe. She is terrible! I knew there was a reason I didnt like Gilmore Girls.
And although I really love the Keira Knightley version of Pride & Prejudice, the best adaptation of the story I have seen (and I have seen four, not including Bridget Jones), there is one thing this movie has over it, besides my personal affinity towards flashy musicals. The whole cast is way more attractive. :) Bonus! Oh, except for maybe Wickham. Rupert Friend is pretty darn cute.
It's not just a chick flick like you may think. Its got amazing characters, a perfect cast, beautiful sets and costumes, and a hilarious and clever storyline. But if you are just looking for a chick flick, well thats there as well.
This was a really interesting movie. Slow and very character driven, so dont watch it if thats a problem for you. There was also very little dialog, and when there was it wasnt English. But I still found it captivating.
Ridiculous and funny. Not everyone's cup of tea I would imagine, but I laughed quite a bit. And an excellent cast. I have a thing for Tim Curry so natuarlly he was the highlight for me. It was especially funny when Wadsworth walked (or ran) them all through the events of the night.
No comment needed. I think everyone knows, whether they have even seen it or not, that this is amazing. With such talents brought together, there was no way around it.
Lots of fun. Jim Carrey made me laugh almost as much as usual even though he has a much smaller part. Because everytime he's on screen he's making the crazy Jim Carrey faces. This is also really cute, cheesy little intergalactic romance. Very 80s.
Some really unique fighting. You can decide for yourself whether or not you buy their explanation as to why clerics, and Preston in particular, are so unstoppable, but the fact that they gave an explanation shows a lot of respect to our intelligence. But why was Taye Diggs' character always smiling?
The best high fantasy movie I have seen in a long time, I'm talkin since 1987 (The Princess Bride :p)! I am not really a fantasy fan to begin with, and I was quite skeptical because of how many ppl were saying it was pretty much A New Hope over again. But it was different enough that it felt like its own story, and I may not have even noticed if I hadnt been told ahead of time (ok, I probably would have noticed when Saphira said, "You would have met the same fate.") If on purpose or not doesnt really matter to me, I enjoyed it a lot.
Great action. I love unstoppable heroes, even when its a little unrealistic (i.e. Transporter). And I liked the story idea, even though its been done so many times since. I just found it really exciting to know we were trying to beat the clock.
This has got to be one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. First thing you need to know, it is only for Star Wars fans. Pretty much every joke was a SW reference, a nicely placed quote, and lots and lots of sound effects. Some one who has only seen SW once or twice wouldnt get even half the jokes. But for someone who loves SW as much as I do, that will make a movie. And I really love the addition of an excellent female nerd. Some people dont know that we even exist, let alone that we can be cool!
Simply beautiful. Some really spectacular images put to even more amazing music. Pines of Rome and Firebird Suite were the most beautiful. But I also found Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 2 and Pomp and Circumstance very cute.
I was so pleasantly surprised by this movie. I watched it only because of its popularity. I like to watch all the classics, even though more often than not, I dont care for them half as much as most ppl. But, I like to know what ppl are talking about. I thought Ferris Bueller would be just another 80s teen movie. Was I ever wrong! This movie is so much fun, and I am actually a little sad that I didnt watch it a long time ago. Ferris is an incredible character. You gotta love him.
I must admit that I enjoyed Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and even own it, but Advent Children was inevitably going to be better. I also must admit that I did not understand much of the plot of Advent Children, but The Spirits Within was not much clearer. I am not really a fan of things Japanese, and have nothing to compare this to, but compared to American action films the fighting was breathtaking. Also amazing was the style of the whole movie and the characters. The whole thing was art. I usually enjoy a movie that is exciting, and although Advent Children did not lack excitement, what I will remember most is how beautiful everything was.
More Snape, plus Sirius Black, mmmm. This is a lot better compared to the previous two. Finally, starting to feel like more is going on than some kids running around. Lots of twists and turns in this one. And some excellent introductions.
They continue to get better with each movie, making this one the best so far. It is also the first to not feel short, even though it's shorter than most.
They continue to get better. This one is definitely the best so far, making more of a leap of improvement than the others. The scene near the end when Harry is having some sort of inner battle with Voldemort is incredibly strong. There was more of Sirius as well as Snape, which is great. Its just too bad there wasnt more of Bellatrix, although I would guess she will be more important in time.
Pretty funny, but I like corny action so I actually enjoyed the action parts more than I found it funny. But way too gory for me, pretty gross actually. If it wasnt for the gore I would have liked this a lot more and would have recommended it to everyone I know.
This is beautiful. I love the city, and the costumes, and the way the whole movie seemed to have a brown tinge to make it feel older. An incredible cast and a beautiful and smart story. Although, I am the only person I know how was surprised by the ending, but if you are not especailly astute, like me, you should really enjoy this.
Beethoven is an absolute wonder. And having him portrayed by Gary Oldman is like a dream come true. With Beethoven's unsurpassable music, Gary Oldman's performance, the sets and costumes, elegant women, and the overwhelmingly romantic story, this movie is a true pleasure.
This obviously isnt a quality movie, but its pretty interesting and entertaining. The acting was mostly horrible and the SFX were bad, but its fast-paced and keeps you interested if you like fantasy or Jason Statham. Bonus if you like both.
So incredibly sexy and stylish. The feel and look of everything was the best part. I didnt find the story particularly engaging. There were a few moving moments, like when Lestat said, "I'm going to give you the choice I never had" again at the end. But I realy loved the feeling of serenity that lasted throughout. This movie painted an amazing and beautiful picture of vampires, even as they did all their evils.
Not a lot happened. It started out good, but then it got boring. The suit was awesome, but he only really used it once. And the ending just made no sense at all. That is no way to introduce a superhero.
Revolutionary in so many ways. Amazing, one of the best. Everyone remembers what it was like the first time they saw the T-Rex step onto the road, as if it was really there.
The best action in a cartoon. Some seriously cool fighting. It didnt feel like they were making light of kung fu at all, like you might expect from a cartoon, especially one starring Jack Black. Genuinely entertaining and funny with a nice message.
Wow, I cant believe how good this was. This is the first Oscar nominated movie I haven't hated since Gladiator! It was so great. Emotional and funny at the same time. I usually hate movies that try to tell you something about life because they usually try to tell you how screwed up the world is (i.e. Babel), but we know that and don't need to be reminded everyday. But this reminds us about something good in life. Thats what we need to hear. So pleasantly surprised.
It had all the cool stunts from the trailers plus some new ones, and Justin Long is funny, but I didnt come out thinking, "OMG that was awesome!" like I expected. It seemed kinda bland, cant explain it. The original is still my favourite, as usual.
This is the best cartoon I have seen in a long time. The most endearing Disney movie since Monsters Inc. Maybe they just needed to get rid of Pixar. I'm not a fan of the Pixar movies made since, except The Incredibles, but thats not the same. Its not 'cute', its 'cool'. This is both, but I like the 'cute' side more.
I actually really enjoyed this, although it would have been much better if it wasnt so low budget. Karl Urban made a great lead. I was very indifferent about him as an actor before, since I had only seen him as a minor character in Lord of the Rings, and a tertiary villain in The Chronicles of Riddick. But he was great in this role and now I rather like him. The story was, for some reason, very interesting even though somewhat simple. It really pulls you in, even with such little dialogue. Most of the movie is action so there isnt much time for dialogue. But even when there is, the characters interact mostly with looks. The actors gave them so much heart. But the camera work was really awkward and shots of the avalanche looked like stock from National Geographic or something. There were also a lot of scenes in the forest and on the mountain that felt like they were on a set. Too low budget for what could have been such an epic movie.
With a lot of musicals ppl say something similar to,"I dont mind musicals, but do they have to sing everything?" Well, I have never come close to thinking that of any musical. Its not that there is too much singing, its that its a serious musical that not everyone can appreciate. And I love the Phantom. A lot of other versions seem to make him a monster, and some of the movies are even horrors. I have not seen any of them, only this. But I love this Phantom! I felt so incredibly sorry for him. During all his singing about his solitude I wanted to tell him, "Let me be with you!" Being portrayed by Gerard Butler really doesnt hurt. He has a wonderful voice that conveyed a lot of emotion even though it is somewhat shakey. He was wonderful.
This is one stylish movie, one of my favourite vampire movies. It is nothing like Interview with the Vampire, in case you are wondering. Its about rockin' vampires, and Aaliyah actually had a very small role in it. All advertising for this movie was very misleading. Its mostly about Lestat's life as a rockstar, and the supernatural expert who is obsessed with him. Its very modern, but great.
Of course it has all the inevitable bad qualities of an 80s fantasy movie. Bad acting, silly swordfighting, predictable villains. But really, its better than a lot of them. So its no Revenge of the Sith with the swordplay, but I was still surprised at how real it looked...for an 80s fantasy. And I found the story more interesting than its reputation led me to believe. The character Red Sonja is a pleasure to watch. I really hope Rose McGowen does her justice.
I had to just swallow the violence in this movie, because it is more than I am used to, but the movie is worth it. Awesome, hardcore, kick-butt movie. The music was perfect for the mood, plus it had a female lead (super bonus). Pure excitement. And what an ending!
I am not sure how to rate this compared to the first movie, about the same I guess. At first I was a little disappointed that she had been altered, making her abilities not as impressive since they are only engineered. But then, with the ending, it seems to be becoming more of a plot issue, which is good, giving her changes more purpose. And do they ever know how to end a movie!
Stunning, visual masterpiece, with a touching story. But the ending leaves you a little wanting. Although, I think it was the best way for things to turn out, it wasnt done as smoothly as the rest. Still excellent.
It seemed to rip off ideas from several prominent fantasy series, as Eragon did. But it manages to still be very entertaining, surprisingly so. Although definitely targeted for younger teens, the action was still impressive, and the story interesting. I was quite easily wrapped up in the excitment of the situation.
I wasnt really that interested in seeing this, the trailers looked very boring. But its actually at least as good as the second, and possibly better since I have a thing for women who kick ass. Go Snow White!! And the Donkey/Dragon babies are so cute!!
Extremely childish, but if you have a weakness for movies targeted at people with ADD, this is for you. My nephews absolutely love it, and I dont see that as a bad thing. Its so fast and flashy that it keeps my attention start to finish. Gorgeous colors.
My fave Star Trek movie and one of my fave movies. I am sure some ppl who arent even trekkies would love this movie. It has such amazing action, and great music that keeps your blood pumping. A showdown with Starfleets greatest enemy in a battle for the survival of the human race is destined to be exciting.
Although missing the old characters and their adventures against the Empire, this movie was well done for the setting it is in. The fact that this is not the same Star Wars must be accepted in order to enjoy it. Leia, Luke, Han, and Lando are not yet born. This movie is not set in the time of the Empire and its tyrannical rulers, Palpatine and Darth Vader. Vader has not been created yet, and Palpatine is only a senator, working behind the scenes to create his Empire. This is the story of the young boy who grows up to save the galaxy, along a very strange road. This movie also introduces to us an even more complex plot than we already knew in the original trilogy. Instead of surprising twists and turns concerning characters and their relations, there are many twists and turns concerning power, deceit, and the origins of elements from the original trilogy. To compliment it all, the story is laced with action, adventure, and many other spectacles. The podrace, a thrill for all your senses (reminiscent of the speeder bike chase from Episode VI, to a larger scale). "Duel of the Fates", a heartpounding duel. The battle of Naboo, intense, elaborate strategy.
It is extremely intriguing to watch the rise in power of the Sith. Watching the original trilogy, before the prequel trilogy even began, I could not help but wonder how it all started. It is likely the one thing that has fascinated me the most about Star Wars; the rise of the Empire and how Palpatine did it all. C-3PO's stream of puns got alittle tiresome after awhile, as well as the cheesy exchanges between Padmé and Anakin. But "Begun the Clone War has" and the battle on Geonosis makes up for some of the faults, but, unfortunately, not all. Anakin's behaviour could be defended if you wish to believe it. Since he was too old when he began training, he had already gained feelings for Padmé that he was not taught to deal with. This is why we hear him say things like, "Now that I'm with you again I'm in agony." But Padmé has no excuse for, "I truly, deeply love you." She forgot the 'madly'. As awkward as the scene of Padmé and Anakin sitting in the field is, it did do some good. We already know that Anakin thinks Palpatine is a good man, but in this scene Anakin says that he would agree with a dictatorship, if it works. This helps show Anakin's progressive fall. In this scene Padmé also acts quite out of character, rolling around in the grass, like Leia's "Hold me." But Star Wars is Star Wars.
There is nothing like this movie. Nowhere can you find characters that you can feel for as much as these, or with a story that feels so real yet is a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. The lightsaber duel is clearly dated, but there is still more emotion in it than in some later duels (i.e. Obi-Wan, Anakin, Yoda vs. Dooku). It is always fascinating to watch the beloved characters come together, as if watching it for the first time (except a few characters, such as Yoda, who we don't meet until later episodes). While watching the closing scene, why do we find ourselves as proud as Han and Luke?
The same as A New Hope, but more. Excitement more than you could have imagined. The battle of Hoth, a sight to be remembered. And in the Bespin cloud city, drama like has never been seen before, as the heroes are betrayed and handed over to their mortal enemy, Han is taken away, and Luke discovers that his ultimate foe is also his father. Why, as Vader says the words, do we shiver to the bone?
"The Climactic Conclusion", as original advertising called it, and climactic it was. We see the brave rescue of Han Solo, and of course, the ulitmate duel. Jedi versus Sith. Father and Son. The inner struggle. Leading to the redemption of Anakin Skywalker, and restored balance. The Empire has fallen, and why do we find ourselves as excited as the rebels? Because no other film is so real, bringing us right there, to a galaxy far, far away.
This was absolutely fascinating. Its a documentary comparing the Star Wars saga to history and mythology, and interpreting a great deal of themes and symbolism. It may not be as fascinating for other Star Wars fans, but I also have a great interest in history and enjoy mythology. But regardless, it is very insightful. There are also many great names adding their thoughts, from filmmakers to historians and authors. Definitely check it out.
Awesome! This movie makes me want to cheer! Cheer for the underdog. This has everything for the making of a fairytale. Evil witch, evil king, poor farm boy finds out he's a prince, and not a damsal in distress, but a star in distress! Even better! One of the most endearing stories I have seen in a very long time. Exciting, especially with De Niro's Captain Shakespeare, appropriately funny, and with an amazing score.
Felt like a pretty good episode, but not as good as The Lost City or Camelot, or I would have given it 5/5. More on the scale of Line in the Sand or Avalon.
From the very beginning you can tell, this is gonna be classic SG-1. A great opening scene. The alternate timeline story was pleasantly twisted and not boring, like they often are when you know from the beginning that everything is gonna turn out fine. I was quite pleased with the way things went in that area.
Lots of great scenes, and lots of appearances from long past friends and enemies. My only quibble is Jack's screen time. I was expecting to see more of him. Jack had to be in this due to his history with Baal, but he didnt get the pleasure of fighting or bickering with him again. There was also a lack of screen time between Jack and Sam. I must admit I had high expectations in this area.
But, in the end far better than The Ark of Truth, and if this was an episode of SG-1, it would be the absolute best.
Considering this is a thriller, you wouldnt expect the first word to come to mind from watching it to be 'beautiful', but thats just what it is. The views, the music, the passion and sacrifice of the crew (and although its shallow, Cillian Murphy. Damn that man is gorgeous). The cinematography and directing is refreshing. And the story? Well, the science is obviously beyond my understand and beyond our capabilities. But since when has that been a problem in sci-fi before? "Star Wars is dum because lightsabers are impossible". Its not my place to question the future. My only problem was Pinbaker. I found his character awkward and unnecessary. The movie could have reached the same outcome through system malfunction and human error without having to add a saboteur, and I think it would have been better for it.
It wasnt a terrible story, only under developed. Interesting enough, but simple. I like the style, the two main characters, the look of the ship, and the ending was cute, although not everything is concluded.
This felt very real. It doesnt have the typical cartoon characters. They talked the way real ppl would. And the story is also a story that could really happen with ppl. A lot of cartoon storylines are ridiculous and can only happen to animals. It really felt like this should have been live-action, with a few modifications. The voice casting is also great.
Wow, intense. Good ol' Luc Besson. A gritty action movie isnt what you expect to be touching, but it was. What he went through for his daughter, it was amazing and impressive. I love how merciless he was, it was so believable. He didnt care about anything, he just wanted his daughter. Especially the scene with Patrice St. Claire in the elevator. Liam Neeson was also surprisinly fitting for the role. Old enough to be retired, but not too old to bring back his skills when they were needed. And the tough look and voice really helped make him intimidating. Lots of great fighting.
An incredibly bizarre, fun movie. Great, unusual style. Tank Girl is one cool chick. Obviously this movie isnt actually good. There are excellent movie elements put together to make an almost terrible movie, but thats why its so fun. Who doesnt enjoy bringing down the establishment? Or watching scantily clad women kick butt? Big guns and tanks? Malcolm McDowell?! But its put together to make a hilarious gong show with occasional animated sequences and kissing kangaroos. A once in a lifetime experience.
Although I am easily satisfied by a movie with lots of chases and explosions and even have 3 Michael Bay movies among my favourites, the first Transformers movie didnt blow me away. I wouldnt even say it was awesome, it was just pretty good. But what that movie was missing, this movie had.
Besides the fact that the action was more incredible and there was more of it, what really pushed this over the 'awesome' line for me, is the scale of it. It took us around the globe, into space, and back to 17 000 BC. The story was more complex and much more interesting, giving the bad guys more purpose than just being bad. The battles were bigger, meaning everyone's heroics were bigger, and that is impressive especially from a normal guy like Sam. I also enjoyed John Turturro's character a lot more in this movie than the first. Once or twice the camera work made me a little dizzy, but it really didnt feel like 2 hrs. 30 min. It was well spent.
This was nothing like I expected. It flet like an epic, fantastical journey. Looking at the poster now, it reminds me of old fantasy movies such as Conan or Star Wars. It was totally in that spirit, only in a different setting, and a very interesting one. I suspected somewhat, because of how often this is compared to The Matrix, but I didnt really know how it would be related. The world was wonderfully imaginative. I felt like a kid caught in a dream, like Flynn did.
Almost any movie with Dracula in it is worth watching, and this is not one of the exceptions. This version reminds me of Gary Oldman's Dracula. Sexy and irresistible as ever, until he turned into that disgusting creature near the end. But, on a more relevant note, this movie was a lot of fun, bringing together several different classic horror creatures for a free for all. Dont expect anything serious in this, or anything true to its original material. Respecting what this movie intended to be, my only quibbles are that the revelation we received about Van Helsing's character was not sufficiently explained, and the ending was inharmonious with the feeling of the rest of the movie.
This had all the amazing action in the trailers and lots more, and although the story was good and really interesting, it was somewhat confusing. I dont know if we were supposed to fill in the blanks ourselves, or if they just forgot to explain everything. But frankly, I dont care, because as far as the action is concerned, this was perfect. And it doesnt hurt that it has two really hot stars steaming up the screen.
