A Murder of Crows (1999, R)
This thriller has a genuinely original plot and is very well written. The plot twist isn't easily spotted and will definitely have viewers guessing for a long time. It's fast paced and well directed by Rowdy Herrington, who's really a director to look for. Cuba Gooding Jr. does a good job in the lead, proving he can well handle dramatic parts as well. Tom Berenger does well, as always, in a relatively small part as a tough detective. A Murder of Crows is a suspenseful and thoroughly entertaining thriller that deserves to be better known. |

Body sob 19 (Body #19) (2007, Unrated)
Body #19 is an interesting Thai Horror Movie with pretty stunning visuals. There are several pretty stunning scenes, most surrounding the central long haired female ghost, but compared with other Asian horror movies of that kind they propped up the scare scenes with loads of great visual effects. Scenes like when the ghost appears in the museum with hundreds of butterflies or the finale sure are eye candy. The whole cinematography of the movie is great. The movie revolves around a guy who lives with his sister and starts having strange dreams about a woman being murdered and her ghost haunting him to find her body. From here a very slow unfolding of the story begins which inter-cuts between several characters that are brought together in the end with a twist that to me seemed pretty forced. At least I have seen the Multipersonlity-Disorder twist done way better in other movies while here many loose ends are not connected but typically for Thai movies mixed with a pretty cheesy love-story and even cheesier music. The whole thing starts really promising, then gets a little hard to watch for its endless lag in playing time and in the end turns out to be a rather messy mix of nice ideas that just don't fit. There is ghost scares, not too little blood, great CGI effects and loads of drama and psychology mixed in. Some of the scenes could have become classics if the movie wasn't so stretched and disjointed. Anyway, if you are into great visuals Body #19 still is worth watching. |

Cloverfield (2008, PG-13)
This movie is complete crap. There were a lot of plot holes and the decisions everyone made were totally unrealistic. It was hard to stay in the movie because of the constant lapses of common sense and logical flaws. The characters were so weak. This may be a candidate for a Raspberry award. Total and complete waste of time. |

"Look it's not easy for me to admit this, but the fact of it is, over the past 24 hours, I've fallen in love with each and every one of you. We're going to be pretty high up there and it's going to be pretty dangerous. And if anything should happen, I don't think I'd forgive myself. Especially you Silo, your quiet charm has cast a spell over me." - Ian |

National Treasure (2004, PG)
This Disney production lives up to the tradition of good family entertainment. A satisfying finale with an intelligent script and good humour scattered throughout, Nicolas Cage is quite good in this movie. The plot was good, and the combination of historical legends and action was perfect. Very enjoyable movie. |

Ping! (2000, PG)
Ping! is a mini Home Alone show for kids. Ping! is a delightful movie if all you want to do is smile and giggle a few times. This is a fun movie to watch when you just want to relax and laugh at something silly. The funny parts are when Ping "becomes" Macaulay Culkin and beats up on the bad guys. It is a stupid movie for most, but for us Chihuahua owners, it is a wonderful alternative to the Legally Blondes. |

Poseidon (2006, PG-13)
Poseidon is based on a novel, technically, although most will associate it with the original film The Poseidon Adventure. The character sequences are laugh out loud funny, thankfully they are brief and there are few of them. The boat being capsized happens very early on and the rest is all narrow escapes, countless explosions, lots of screaming and a needlessly loud soundtrack. The special effects are just superb, very believable and realistic. The characters are all predictable and the actors really try to bring something to their parts, but they can't. Emmy Rossum and Josh Lucas come closest to succeeding. Some of the early scenes are, of course, too predictable (even if Dreyfuss's romantic side seems a little displaced and unnecessary), as one just wants things go forward with the action. Luckily, on that end, in the tradition of bubble-headed (pun intended) thrillers with all the elements of a matinée serial, it's not bad. |

Religion, Inc. (A Fool and His Money) (1989, R)This was just about one of the worst movies I have seen. 81 minutes of pure torture. Sandra Bullock is advertised blatantly on the cover but she has only a very small role. She does well in her role, but it is too small to help the movie any. The movie honestly has no plot, and pretty bad acting. The end is quite bad. I would not recommend watching, renting, or buying this movie unless you are into movies with bad acting and no plot. |

Rocky Balboa (2006, PG)
"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that!" - Rocky Balboa |

The Kidnapping (Black Friday) (2008, PG)
Amy Carlson is the woman in charge of a bank's security system. Two dirty cops (played by the slightly washed-up duo of Judd Nelson and Thomas Ian Griffith) kidnap her daughter (played by Darcy Rose Byrnes) and a friend to force her to open the safety deposit box of one of her bank's clients and give to them its content. Meanwhile, an investigation about police corruption in the department is already underway. This derivative, think of it as a cross between Trapped and Don't Say A Word, thriller lingers too long on the anguish and fear of the desperate mother and the kidnapped daughter, which gives it a rather unpleasant taste. Still, the experienced director, Arthur Allan Seidelman, manages to get some suspense out of it in places, and Amy Carlson gives a very convincing performance, she offers more to the movie than the movie offers to her. |

The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising (2007, PG)
All the ingredients are here for a fun fantasy adventure, but The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising doesn't even seem interested in itself. This movie has such a shocking lack of wonder and whimsy, two things all fantasy adventures must have. The incredible keeps on showing its face throughout the story, but the movie forgets to allow the characters to react or even respond to it. The storytelling employed here is of the most basic and episodic quality. Worst adaptation ever. |

Titan A.E. (2000, PG)
The story is cliched. The animation by far is a turning point in the world of animated features. From the start, the animation is exceptional. The characters are just portrayed so well. The actors doing the voice-overs put so much emotion into what the characters actually felt. This movie is great for family viewing. |
