These are movies I own on DVD, though I don't always have the latest or greatest version. I try to upgrade when I can, but nowadays it sometimes seems like it'd make more sense to wait till I have a Blu-Ray player to upgrade to a better DVD release. I also still need to upgrade many of my VHS tapes to DVD. I'll have to add to this list a little at a time in my spare time, and it's in no particular order.
My favorite film of all time! It was a great time to be a Disney fan when this came out, and this is an easy favorite for the fan of classic animation, Disney, and '40's Hollywood and detective nostalgia. A feast for the eyes as well as an awesome film!
The third of the big three original Muppet movies! Great stuff, and I love the wedding scene where we even see the Sesame Street characters in the wedding party. Hilarious songs!
I actually own this one but haven't watched it since I bought it and don't want to rate it until I rewatch it (because I don't remember it well enough).
I'm a huge Indiana Jones fanatic. This is the best, with a special, "classic" movie quality. Amazing music contributes to it. John Williams is a master!
I absolutely love this movie! Any Disney fan should! This embodies my schoolboy fantasies so well (of me landing a Disney princess one day, preferably Ariel, ha).
I was surprised to find out this one is mostly based on Oliver Twist, but with a big child musical prodigy aspect. It's an amazing film in its own right though. A major tearjerker everyone should see.
Awesome original film that was later remade as The Omega Man and Will Smith's I Am Legend, based on the story "I Am Legend". This one is better than the Will Smith one, in my opinion. Still need to see Omega Man in its entirety. Love this film though!
Like so many modern horror films, this one is really awesome till it craps out at the end. Any big, blobby tentacled CGI ghost monster that isn't "real" looking or scary in the least. Still, so much of this film is awesome that it deserves a high score.
Very underrated, but it would've been hard for any Disney theme park ride-based film to follow the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie. This one does use some family film cliches (that most family films still use anyway) to create a story around the attraction, but overall it is a fun, high quality flick!
I was really psyched to get this one when it came out. I know Disney has done a lot of direct-to-video sequels that have been disappointing, but some were actually very good (and some came so close...). I'm huge on Ariel and TinkerBell, so this is a big DVD year for me with their new prequel releases. As for Ariel's Beginning. I felt some inconsistencies, like Flounder's personality, which is only true to the original film in one deleted scene, make the whole thing feel more like it takes place in a parallel dimension. I didn't think Cummings worked as the voice of Triton (though he IS a Disney treasure, don't get me wrong), didn't feel the original songs were memorable, and didn't care for the villain's sidekick, ha. I also hate that when they make feature sequels they often disregard the TV shows that have already been created. As a prequelization, I much prefer Little Mermaid the series. As a stand alone film though, this was very good, hence the 4 stars. Jodi's voice is straight from heaven, as always, I loved Arista and that we got to see more of the sisters, and the visuals were beautiful.
