Apocalypto (2006, R)
awesome movie! grabbed me by the neck and didnt let go till the very end... mel gibson may be a prick but hes a hell of a stroyteller, the characters, atmosphere, sets, costumes and story where perfect and really draws you into the movie. its not for the faint hearted though, as theres some brutal and gruesome scenes in there... (ppl who had already watched passion of the Christ need not worry) |

not a riot fest of laughs but i enjoyed this movie none the less, the characters were extremely colorful and funny if but a little cartoony. theres some great moments and some hilarious roles (danny trejo was the shit) but its still pretty much an average comedy at the expense of the u.s. military... |

bloody brilliant and scary as hell. the movie manages to draw you in and make you really care about the characters. and theres some genuine heart pumping moments. you'll be on the look out for zombies when you leave the cinema. slighly less impactful than its predecessor but its definitely a movie to see... |

FUCKING... AWESOME... MOVIE!! I laughed my God damned ass off!! I usually couldnt give a rat's ass about movies starring Jake Gilye...Guyle...Gy... oh fuck it, the guy that looks like Tobey Maguire... MOtherfucker was fucking funny, hoora!! ...Oh yeah, im swearing a lot arent i? sorry THAT is one of the side effects of watching this movie (if you are offended by foul language & displays of manly bonding please avoid) anyway in between these moments of hilarity, are some truly thought provoking situations. and an insightful look into the lives of the of the men that go to war and their military life. You have no choice but to be drawn in by the characters and Jamie Foxx is at his bad ass best as usual... great movie... in the vein of 'Three kings'... |

Mr. Brooks (2007, R)
I never thought i would ever root for the serial killer in a movie, ever... but i did for Mr. Brooks...this is a testament to the acting skills of Mr. Costner (he was really cool in this movie), he struck the perfect balance, being a likable and disturbing character all at the same time, and kudos also to the rest of the supporting cast, Williarm Hurt was both dark and hilarious as the alter-ego of Mr.Brooks, his conversations with Costner were brilliant, Dane Cook was the comic relief and was hilarious as the would be protege of Mr. Brooks, as for Demi Moore, she was forgettable as the driven cop after the elusive serial killer, any decent caliber actress could have done the part. the story begins when Mr. Brooks is urged to kill after years of being inactive. after the kill he vows to never kill again, but events unfold beyond his control, both in his life at home and his alternate life as a serial killer, forcing him to rethink his decision... truly brilliant movie (dude, it had me rooting for the serial killer, how messed up is that???) |

Skinwalkers (2007, PG-13)
I enjoy a good werewolf movie as much as the next guy... i enjoyed watching the low budget but effective portrayal of the werewolf by Jack Nicholson in 'Wolf' and i really had fun watching the more flashier CGI werewolves in 'Underworld'. So as i was preparing to watch Skin walkers i expected it to at least be somewhere in between...it started off well enough as they set the stage showing the 2 factions in the werewolf world and the current conflict they are facing, the camera work is deccent (Though they use slow motion in some wierd instances) and the score is negligible but ok. As for the story the plot has more holes than swiss cheese and the acting is atrocious (everyone cries in this movie...a lot), they failed completely to draw me into the characters and their story and the ending felt like a cop out to me. Plus no matter how i cut it i cannot bring myself to like the wide eyed little cry baby twerp portraying the 'saviour' of the 'good' werewolves, i mean the kid never listens to anyone and is always putting himself in danger, even after most of the good guys have given their lives to protect him. not good when youre the sole saviour of werewolfkind. As for the make-up i cant really bitch about that as noone really knows what a werewolf would look like, but i must say i wasnt impressed, in this day and age i expected more... side note: there was a scene about 30 minutes into the movie where there is a massive shootout in this weirdly deserted town.. and it appears that the good guys are the crappiest shots ever! they didnt even wound a single bad guy even though they were about the same numbers (i think they might even have outnumbered them). but i must say i was particularly amused (laughing my ass off), when the granny pulled out not one, but two handguns and went all John Woo on the bad guys (naturally she missed all the shots and was killed... just as she was about to wolf out) , it definitely was a high point in this very dodgy werewolf movie... which goes to show just how crappy the movie is... watch once if you must... |

Hostel: Part II (2007, R)
sequel to hostel and part of the 'new' horror wave hitting hollywood. gone are the days of slasher flics, urban legend horrors, serial killers and monster movies... nowadays it is torture and disembodiment in strange foreign countries that brings fear to the audience, and the second hostel brings just that...not for the faint hearted or the squeamish. |

I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006, R)
If you get your jollies watching a bunch of retarded teenagers get picked off one by one in semi-gruesome fashion, then this is the movie for you. Naturally the plot and story is braindead, i wasnt really surprised by that, since i had seen the other series. But i expected the very least lots of blood, gore and gratiouitious nudity (im being honest here, we all know that the shower scene is the greatest hallmark of any horror movie) |

The Net 2.0 (2006, R)
The first net starring Sandra Bullock was fast, slick, intelligent and entertaining. The sequel, starring the hot, yet unknown Nikki Deloach was barely passable. but i gotta give it to the woman, she sure can run... i think she she spends a good 2/3 of the movie running, running in the streets, running on the roof... anyway the movie itself is decent enough, with an acceptable performance from everybody (but i think the leading lady kinda overdid it) but i gotta say the plot was lacking and very predictable, all the twists are a lame attempt at surprising the audience and fails. (if there are this many undercover cops in Istanbul i will definitely never visit there...) If you enjoy those paranoid/thriller movies (with lots of running) then you ll probably enjoy this flick... |

Iron Man (2008, PG-13)
un-FUCKING-believable... i love this movie... i want it to have my kids... ahem...now that ive gotten that out of my system, lets move on... this movie was friggin' awesome, Jon Favreau did an amazing job, the only other superhero move that could possibly be better is Dark Knight... and that is high praise. The Iron man comics has been around for a long time and the movie captures the feel of all of it beautifully, aided by some state of the art special effects. Brilliant performance by Robert Downey, who truly became Tony Stark, with a perfect blend of wit, humor, charisma and the personal conflict. i beileive no other actor could have done that as well as he did. the supporting cast did an excellent job as well. This movie compounds the rising quality of 'comic movies'. And one more thing... the suit was fucking BADASS!!! Will definitely be looking forward to the sequel... |
