The Happening (2008,  R)
The Happening 4.0 Stars
I really liked it. I really like Mark Wahlberg. And even though I am not a big Zooey fan (still liked her better in Winter Passing) I tolerated her most of the time. I'm still a M. Night Shyamalan fan!! I liked the idea, was full on irony, bitingly so!! Some call that cheese, but I found it tasty. Not awesome but likable. Kept me guessing like other M. Night Shyamalan movies but for different reasons because it is so different.

James Newton Howard's original music is so scary. I did not notice it so much in the movie, but I've listened to the OST a bunch in the past 2-3 months and it is really scary!!

I really did not like John Leguizamo's character. The violence was wow. Sometimes shown full blown and sometimes off-screen but still powerful.

Be Kind Rewind (2008,  PG-13)
Be Kind Rewind 3.5 Stars
I did not read any reviews or hear critism of Be Kind Rewind, so my expectation was pretty high. It was not that much better than the trailer, which I really enjoyed. Half of the movie I really liked, and that was the premise (see the plot), but the other half was just ok, not bad. The ending was a little flat and overall it was a little empty, but back to the plot again. If this was a 20-30 minute movie based on the plot, I would probbly give it 5 stars based originality, creativity and performance. But the other hour is kinda too Hollywood. I might just go to the website and check out the movies that Mos Def and Jack Black made there and maybe that will meet more of my expectation. I'll check it out. More to come...
