The Devil Wears Prada (2006,  PG-13)
The Devil Wears Prada 4.5 Stars
A modern movie loved and cherished by oldies. That's because this one has a heart and soul.

I love it. The character portrayals are just great. It's original and although some critics doesn't like Meryl Streep's acting, i do. In fact, when she comes out in another movie, i still see her character as Miranda. That's how effective she is.

It's more like Ugly Betty minus the ugly face. Lol! Just kidding America.

I won't stress out more into this one because everyone who watched it love it too! This one surely will stay in my archives of fave films.

El Orfanato (The Orphanage) (2007,  R)
El Orfanato (The Orphanage) 4.5 Stars
Personally..
This is the very first horror movie that i end up weeping.
Guillermo Del torro proved to me that he's works are worth
waiting and watching for.

I catch this on DVD and it belongs to a list of high-ranked
movies based on the quality.

The Story:

The story is very original and the movie connects to the viewer and
does not give out any hint of the upcoming twist and turns. I
was having a hard time myself in guessing how the movie ends. Well
of course, i won't tell you what the story is about because it's
best watched when you only know that it's partly a horror movie
and i tell you, you'll be grateful for not knowing at all.

The Ending:

The twist and turns were quite unexpected. Although the last part was a little bit
confusing and will leave wondering if it's going to have a sequel? or is Mr. Del
Torro leaving us a spcae to fill in on what happens next.

All in all, the movie has a solid content and just knowing Warner Bros. took the highest in
distributing this one makes it really worth it. Warner rarely
disappoints.

The Characters:

It might be confusing so you better watch and pay attention to this movie.
It's not the type where you stand up from your seat and get something and still
feels like you're not missing a thing. It's like a book. Every detail counts.

The main character was perfectly chosen to play the role. The acting was absolutely
defined. The boy (simon) is just as adorable as he can be. As one of the audience,
it also gives you a feeling of helping the main character to search for him.

Technically Speaking:

Now this is one of the best part of the movie that i really love.
Most horror films often disregard the screenplay and the shots and
they even intentionally do it to find it more like "real" but the truth
is, it's just not "in" these days. Automatically, it's junked in
the "cheap movie bin".

The Orphanage stands out and it adds "creepiness" and strangeness to the
movie. I did have four to five screams although it was not enough, i was stilll
entertained.

The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep (2007,  PG)
The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep 3.0 Stars
The first time i think about the movie, i thought: Wow, another mee-shee movie? SO i didn't watch it.

However, when we were looking for movies that are worth watching with my family, i stumbled into this movie and to make the story short, i end up watching it.

THis movie is better than "mee-shee". But it's pretty predictable and it feels very classic. And it's not a good thing.

The movie is forgettable. To be honest, i am having a hard time remembering the story itself!

Clearly, it is a kid movie and those living in an uncivilized world will like it.

What is exceptional though is the animated character. Unbelievably, i can't find any loopholes that it was crappy. That's i guess the only thing you should be watching for this movie. The rest follows as a so-so treat.

Penelope (2006,  PG)
Penelope 4.0 Stars
Personally:
I always have a doubtful feeling that A-listers-turned-producers will hit their aim like the movies that made them a star.
I am pretty confident in them as part of the movie, than making it. Well yeah although sometimes they do cameos or supporting roles.

And Penelope is not an exception. This movie came into spotlight headlining Reese Witherspoon as the producer. I thought, i don't wanna hurt Reese. As her follower, i have always liked her. But i am not confident on this one.

And it turned out i should be. This movie is something to watch. I have watched this and i didn't even solved the mystery. This movie is well made and spiced with fun and excitement. It's so light you can watch this even when you're not feeling well. Finally, one thing i like about the movie is dealing more on reality. The character is not that "miss perfect".. like all of us, she still has her insecurities and bitterness which did not make us hate her. And that's what makes it different. A lot different. It's totally being real and knowing what is right and learning from mistakes.

Story:

Overall, the story is unpredictable. And it's complete with some lessons to learn and a sweet ending.

Acting:

It's not a huge movie but it can gather wider audience than a big-budgeted film. Kids love it for sure. Adults as well. I thought Christina Ricci's acting was just good as before. She brought the character to life. Reese also did a great job. She deserves an applause. She didn't overdo her part which is nice.

Technically:

The animation is okay and it added color and fun to the movie.
