The actor's performances are fantastic all around in this gripping story of greed, paranoia, cynicism, immorality and irony. Huston as the grizzled old prospector and Bogart as an unlikable man who lets his insatiable greed for gold and increasing paranoia get the better of him are both excellent in their roles. |

Very good vampire movie that combines different genres with horror such as romance and western. Crashes somewhat towards the end due to some unfortunate plot twists. Particularly involving a blood transfusion, under explained coincidences as well as an upbeat and simplistic ending. Vampires aren't sophisticated and the movie is quite violent and brutal. Near Dark gives an atypical and captivating take on the vampire genre, reinventing the mythology. The editing is a bit rough around the edges. The word vampire is never uttered throughout the entire film and the term vampire is never alluded to. |
