The Dog Problem
First of all, I think any movie with Giovanni Ribisi is gonna be good, and this doesn't contradict my thought.

It's funny, quirky, and fun to watch. And even tho I don't have a dog, I can understand the attachment,

Mena Suvari's character is quite iobviously patterned after Nicole Ritchie, in a hilarious way ;)

And don;t forget Don Cheadle is in this (his name is Howard, heheh)

Rent this with a bunch of your friends.

Even Money (2006,  R)

Fast Food Nation (2006,  R)
Fast Food Nation
At first I was think *W*T*F*, but I liked this film and I agree with Hugo's comparisons to other films, and also it not being as good as them.

But it still made me think about some things (it'll make me think twice nexct time I eat fast food -- shit in the meat, ew!).

It's quirky and different and worth the watch, especially off cable for free ;)

Haven (2006,  R)
Haven
At the beginning I was thinking this film was going to be nothing special; it seemed like a million other mediocre films, but I kept watching, and I'm glad I did.

The film is predictably packaged as, "Look at this movie with Orlando Bloom in it that no one has seen or heard of", but what makes it special isn;t Bloom.

It's the story, and some of the other actors. It's the pacing, and the play with time and scenes.

Great rent or if you can find it to DVR like we did.

The Hawk Is Dying (2006,  Unrated)
The Hawk Is Dying
Very much a strange film, but with superb performances from Paul Giamatti and Michelle Williams.

And, thank god, the viewer does finally find out why he is obsessed with hawks ;)

Not for everyone, but well worth it if you're so inclined.
29
The Host (Gwoemul) (2007,  R)
30
Joshua (Joshua: The Devil's Child) (2007,  R)
Joshua (Joshua: The Devil's Child)
Joshua is a Stepford child. You know, his hair is freakishly well coiffed and he's incredibly well mannered and exceptionally gifted...and he's a diabolically crazy little bastard!

Excellently chosen cast in a film that was a lot better than I thought it'd be. Nice touch with Celia Weston.

Yes, it's more than a little Omenesque, but it's more than that. Its total lack of supernatural elements makes it less like the Omen (no mention of Satan, etc).

It's really creepy, and I'm not normally creeped our by these movies.

Maybe a few plot holes, but otherwise a great film.
31
Just My Luck (2006,  PG-13)
32
Letters from Iwo Jima (2006,  R)
33
The List (2007,  PG)
34
Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others) (2006,  R)
35
Lust, Caution (Se jie) (2007,  R)
36
Man of the Year (2006,  PG-13)
Man of the Year
Lighthearted movie that was noce, but with a strange plot. I really didn;t understand the signifance of some of the plot points, and I thought some of the decisions made were strange considering the audience of the film,

The best bit was the point that Robin Williams' character makes at the end. I have to say tho that the movie is sub par.
37
Moving McAllister (2007,  PG-13)
38
The Nines (2007,  R)
The Nines
This is kind of like The Number 23 with a little of The Matrix (don't think the fighting bits) and The Sims computer game, but so much better than The Number 23 so don;t get scared off by that comparison.

It's definitely different...in a good way. First the first half hour is seems like it night be a quirky comedy/rom com but then it takes a turn and gets a lot more interesting.

Thankfull Ryan Reynolds takes a step away from his regular work (it's progress) and proves he's at least a bit more than a nice body with comic timing.

Fans of Melissa McCarthy (Gilmore Girls, Samantha Who?) and Hope Davis will like thus as well.

Nomad: The Warrior (2007,  R)
40
Penny Dreadful (2006,  R)

The Perfect Score (2004,  PG-13)
The Perfect Score
It's pretty much just like the box says -- Breakfast Club meets Ocean's Eleven. Except crappy versions of both movies.

It's one of those movies that is just MADE for TBS or TNT. Thankfully Chris Evans and Bryan Greenberg have gone on to better things.

For the life of me, I can;t remember ScarJo in this...

OK, I just checked and I never recognized Francesca as Johannson, never would thought it was her!
42
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006,  R)
43
Raising Flagg (2007,  PG-13)
44
Reincarnation (Rinne) (,  R)
45
Romance and Cigarettes (2007,  R)
46
Scoop (2006,  PG-13)
Scoop
Wow, people were all over the map on this one, from some of my friends thinking it was total crap to some loving it.

Yes it was a bit unusual at times for a Woody Allen film and it was quirky even for him, but it seems some people forgot that it was essentially a comedy.

All the elements are there. Not to mention a piceless performance from Allen. Yes, it's not one of my favorites for Johannson, but that's personal preference. The parts I didn;t like about her performance were done on purpose, to extend her character.

Funny and enjoyable, but not engrossing. I believe tho that it delivers what it's meant to.

Seraphim Falls (2007,  R)
48
Severance (2006,  R)

Shortcut to Happiness (The Devil and Daniel Webster) (2007,  PG-13)

Starter for Ten (Starter for 10) (2006,  PG-13)
Starter for Ten (Starter for 10)
I guess I'm one of those people who likes James McAvoy as an acvtor, and so I wanted to see this for him, and because it was set in the 80s and I was feeling nostalgic. ;)

While it's not amazingly good, it's still funny and accurate to the time period. Still, probably not right for anyone who isn;t old enough to rember the flavor of the 80s, might think it was campy and unrelaistic.

But it worked for me.

The themes aren;t groundbreaking, but they aren't meant to be. It's a bit slow in the beginning, but quickly gets going.

Give it a chance.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007,  R)
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
At first glance, the title of this film seems ridiculous. It's too long and seems goofy, and all that usually = a crappy movie. But, in this case, the title is totally appropriate. Robert Ford was, quite literally and definitively, a coward.

Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck give admirable performances, the latter, in my opinion building on the success of Gone, Baby, Gone.

It's the nuances -- inflection, facial tics, etc -- that bring the characters to life and make the story interesting, and both men's performances make make the real men, James AND Ford both seem worthy of sympathy.

The one big flaw with the film comes in its legnth. Not the fact that it's 2 and half hours long, but the fact that it lingers too long. It should have ended with the first assertion that Robert Ford was a coward, during the play.

Still, a pretty great film, that did what great biopics should -- made me more curious about the real men, particularly Jesse James.

Lars and the Real Girl (2007,  PG-13)
Lars and the Real Girl
Odd but not off-putting, offbeat but not gratuitously so, it's oddly captivating -- that is, in the beginning, but soon enough, just captivating.

Lars is a 20-something socially-awkward guy who lives in the garage of a home he co-owns with his brother, Lars has, from my perspective, unresolved issues dealing with lives and deaths of his parents (who have died by the time the film starts) that are never really explained.

He use "the real girl" as a coping mechanism.

As ludicrous as it sounds, during the course of the film, you almost forget that the girl is a doll, given that Lars' family and the local townspeople accept her as real out of love for him.

Expert acting from Gosling and great casting choices for the supporting characters.

Perhaps not for everyone, but it should be.

Reservation Road (2007,  R)
Reservation Road
This one is a tough call.

It's definitely slow and could stand some major editing and fleshing out in some places, and it could go thru the chiche extractor (patent pending) a few times, all that is true.

However, I was surprised by the performances of Ruffalo and especially.

While I feel to some extent that talents were wasted on this film, I still think it makes for a good enough rent.

Wristcutters - A Love Story (2007,  R)
Wristcutters - A Love Story
I thought I had already rated this, but maybe not, or maybe Flixster deleted it.

The deal with Wristcutters is that you will either love it or hate it. It's definitely out there and it depends on your tolerance those types of films.

Of course I love Shannyn Sossamon, and Patrick Fugit is perfect for this role.

Strange, but fun, and I really liked it.

Sleuth (2007,  R)
Sleuth
