hyper-realism

This is probably my favorite type of film to watch. I can't think of any good way to localize the genre of these movies except to describe what they make me feel, which is a sort of gritty surrealism. It's similar to the feeling you get when you're watching gary busey for any length of time, lol.

Here's a description from an online discussion attempting to define this very type of film :

"it probably means taking the trivialities of life and making them the focus of feature length films. Making grand drama out of small gestures, events, and interactions. A film like 2001 is hyperreal because of the way it’s filmed, whereas the settings are just backgrounds where events play out. A film like L’avventura, or anything else by Antonioni, is hyperreal because of the painstaking and methodical pace at which characters speak, move, and events occur. This is hyperreal because in reality we don’t normally pay attention to these details even if they may be there. A film has the capability of singling out some of these details and throwing them back at the viewer to contemplate. Hence the feeling of a film being “more real than reality” because it shows you things about the world that may objectively exist but are hard to perceive in the chaotic intake of stimuli."
