Joe Somebody (2001,  PG)
Joe Somebody
EEEEK! Seems like a very high score for what seems to be a pretty much unheard of Tim Allen movie right?

Well maybe it is, but I don't really care, I loved this movie. I picked it up dirt cheap on dvd and got it for James (jim) Belushi, I had read that he was good in this so I took on a chance on a blind buy. (glad I did)

It has a quote on the dvd box that says "Enormously entertaining and heart-warming" and that's pretty much what it is, but it's also damn funny to boot.

Tim Allen is really good here as is Julie Bowen from Boston Legal (and she's also very hot!) but Kelly Lynch (Roadhouse, Curly Sue) has very little to do. A young Hayden Panettiere (Heroes) plays the 12 year old going on 60, wise Yoda like child that always seems to be in these kind of movies to help steer the adults in the right direction.

The star of the show though is Jim Belushi, man he is funny in this and a great character who steals every scene he is in.

Don't expect to watch this movie with some kind of unexpected ending, you know after 10 mins what's going to happen, but it's a damn fun ride that will make you laugh and smile all the way through.

Greedy (1994,  PG-13)
Greedy
I love this movie! Kirk Douglas is great in it, I'm a huge Michael J. Fox fan and he is great in this kind of light, warm hearted comedy as usual and I still lust after Olivia d'Abo since I was a kid and she was in Conan the Destroyer.

The supporting cast do a great job of being err Greedy.

This movie makes me glad I'm skint, at least I know I'm loved for me:D

Separate Lives (1995,  R)
Separate Lives
Jim Belushi sleepwalks through this and Linda Hamilton tries to show off the body she sculpted for T2 but the lazy script does not let her.

It's a boring movie that you will figure out after the first flashback and the last 30 mins are just over the top crap with nothing worth seeing if you make it to the end.

Both stars have worked with Arnie in the past but not even Arnie could have saved this boring mess of a movie had he been in it.

The Rocketeer (1991,  PG)
The Rocketeer
As soon as the movie starts the first thing that gets you is the magical score by James Horner, then when you get into the movie you'll feel like you're watching another indy movie as it's in the same timeline and we have nazi bad guys, it just has the 'Indiana Jones' feel to it.

I really do love this movie, it's very charming and exciting with all the leads doing a great job (even Timothy Daltons comedy voicework adds to the fun).

The effects have held up really well since the early 90's and the overall look of the movie is ace.

One of the best live action Disney movies out there.

This Island Earth (1955,  Unrated)
This Island Earth
Very little plot but a passable 50's sci-fi movie all the same. The fx is ok but the acting is under par. I love 50s sci-fi movies so I can sit through this and kinda enjoy it. For most people though this movie is just utter crap and it's well worth it's place on MST3K.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956,  PG)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Classic 50s movie, one of my faves from that decade.

Kevin McCarthy is great here and that ending is still chilling. If you're a fan of 50s sci fi then you're a fan of this.

I just wish they would bring out a really good special edition dvd for it:(

True Lies (1994,  R)
True Lies
It had been a long time since I had watched this movie and I forgot just how much fun it was. Probably one of swartzi's best movie. A great supporting cast and amazing set pieces.

I wish he had made another one of these along with Jamie Lee (who is ace in this).

The Christmas Shoes (2006,  Unrated)
The Christmas Shoes
Well Christmas is here again so I've started off my christmas movie watching season with this movie starring Rob Lowe.

My sister told me this was a really sad movie and boy was she not kidding, this movie pulls at the heart strings like you would not belive at times.

I found it a bit much to take at times though, as the subject matter of 'death' does not make for a happy movie. It pulls at the heartstrings a bit too hard for its own good and will leave you dreading the day the same things happens in your family or you'll be remembering back to when it already has.

It's one of those movies that makes you want to cherish every moment with your loved ones and hope they do the same for you. the thing is though, this movie is fighting a losing battle because we as a species are a heartless and uncaring bunch of selfish gits.

A Christmas Carol (1984,  PG)
A Christmas Carol
I love this version of 'A Christmas Carol'

George C Scott makes an excellent Scrooge and having the movie being filmed on location rather than in a studio gives it a better feel. It's also got a very nice score.

A classic story and a very good version from the 80's

"Spirit, what perversity is this? I've asked to see some emotion connected with that man's death... and you've shown me only greed, and malice, and apathy! Let me see some TENDERNESS, some... DEPTH OF FEELING!"
10
Turbulence (1997,  R)
Turbulence
It's christmas eve, there's a 747, Ray Liotta and Lauren Holly and that's pretty much the movie. Ray Liotta is on top form in this, he plays the good/bad guy so well and in this movie he's a total fruit.

This movie is so far fetched, but if you turn off your brain you might just enjoy this Christmas movie... Well it's not really a Christmas movie, but it's set on christmas eve and there's christmas lights in just about every scene in the movie and you have It's a wonderful Life in the background showing as the in flight movie.

Catherine Hicks and Brendan Gleeson are wasted here with sweet f all to do and hardly any screen time, and it seems strange having this huge plane for about 15 people. The setting works well though and it always feels like it's christmas thanks to the million lights all over the plane.

It's a silly movie, but it's one I always enjoy and one of the better 'on a plane' movies.

"Wait a minute, wait a minute. You've got a 747 beat to hell by level 6 turbulence, your flight crew is dead, you've got an armed convicted serial killer loose on board, eight passengers have disappeared, and your stewardess is locked in the goddamned cockpit. Have I left anything out?
