The Bank Job (2008,  R)
The Bank Job
After a promising and riveting start the film delves into what it believes to be a smart witty heist film, unfortunately all they created was a dull, boring film with bland performances and nothing to keep interests alive. If they could have found a way to stretch the actual bank heist out past 45 minutes the film would've been great, there was some really intense and fun scenes in the first act of the film especially the scene involving the Ambulance trick by the police. Its a real shame the film let itself down.

I thought the film would've had a lot more to offer - the first 40 minutes of the film were great - but after that it really just lost its charm and the tension was all but gone - I had read some very positive reviews about this one, but it just didn't live up to my expectations, if I had to sum up the film I'd probably label it boring - had they kept the pace and excitment from the first 40 minutes it would've been a terrific film.

Drillbit Taylor (2008,  PG-13)
Drillbit Taylor
When it comes to Owen Wilson, I usually expect a really dumb yet mildly amusing film. Drillbit Taylor is one of the films you'd honestly expect this from, yet somewhere along the lines it picks up a bit of heart and is a genuinely funny movie. With some decent performances, even the kids manage to get by with charm rather than becoming unbearable. The film is tightly paced and the jokes never drag on too far.
3
Yes Man (2008,  PG-13)
Yes Man
After a drawn-out introduction into the life of Carl Allen finally proceeds to the next logical step in the film, it begins to get funny. Its your typical Carrey project and its nice to have him back in top form. The film doesn't stray far from what it knows but it works well and Zooey Deschanel is an absolute charm. Most of the 'funniest' one liners are seen in the trailers but there is still pleanty of fun to be had. Far from being the funniest film Jim Carrey has done, and sharing many similarities to Liar, Liar. Yes Man is an enjoyable romp if you go with it.
4
Porky's (1982,  R)
Porky's
Funny and suprisingly not too outdated. Its the 80s equivalent to my generations American Pie. An enjoyable romp with some laugh out loud scenes.
5
Fred Claus (2007,  PG)
Fred Claus
A typical yet enjoyable Vince Vaughn film. Mixed with elements of The Santa Claus with typical Vaughn humor. Fred Claus adds nothing to the Xmas movie genre but is an enjoyable Xmas film - out of the festive season, I'm not too sure how it would hold up though.
6
Rescue Dawn (2007,  PG-13)
Rescue Dawn
An honest and brutal depiction of fighter pilot shot down in Vietnamn, who forges friendships and epically struggles with the torture and escape from a POW camp. A moving and powerful story of survival, told with brutal action and riveting performances.
7
WALL-E (2008,  G)
WALL-E
Brilliant film - pixar tops itself again setting the bar even higher - definately their greatest feature to date - heart-warming, funny, nostalgic and sweet an absolute treat to watch.
8
Mamma Mia! (2008,  PG-13)
Mamma Mia!
I'm not sure what everyone really saw in Mamma Mia, whilst it wasn't horrible, it far from being 'brilliant' which is a word I heard being floated around alot. Meryl Streep plays her role to a tee and the scenery is beautiful but there are far better musicals that have been released in recent years. Mamma Mia is not a bad film by any stretch and is pretty enjoyable but it wasn't what it was made out to be. I was far more entertained by Hairspray.
9
Just Friends (2005,  PG-13)
Just Friends
A funny and enjoyable romantic comedy that is held together but a suprisingly funny performance by Anna Faris, despite not being a main character in the film. Faris steals every bit of screen tim e she gets. A nicely paced comedy that doesn't outstay its welcome.
10
Marley & Me (2008,  PG)
Marley & Me
The onscreen chemistry between Wilson and Aniston is on fire. The two bounce of each others comedic ability fooling you that the two are in fact acting. Marley is adorable, the script flows tightly and mounts to one of the most moving scenes I have seen in any film of recent memory - I dare you to get out of the cinema without a dry eye.
11
Jumper (2008,  PG-13)
Jumper
A total mess of a film, with the exception of some decent SFX the films plot is made overly complicated by the jumping of scene to scene without any real explanation of what is going on. Stale and wooden performances, a poor script with poor storytelling.
12
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008,  PG-13)
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
A fun run of the mill adventure flick. It doesn't add anything to an already albeit poor franchise but manages to take old ideas and make them fun again. I definately had more fun watching this than The Mummy Returns, its action packed got a few lame jokes and moves along quickly, I doesn't deserve to be written off like I initially suggested its an hour and a half of pure popcorn fun.
13
Death Proof (Grindhouse Presents) (2007,  R)
Death Proof (Grindhouse Presents)
Some exhilirating scenes towards the end of the film and a fantastic set up, let down by the middle act. Still a funny, action packed joy ride,
14
Shutter (2008,  PG-13)
Shutter
A poorly developed script with 0 scares. Remakes of Japanese Horror films were 'so 1999' and they need to stop now!
15
Hollywood Ending (2002,  PG-13)
Hollywood Ending
A wacky neurotic and very funny behind the scenes comedy. Woody Allen plays his typically neurotic self effortlessly. An entertaining romp.
16
Little Manhattan (2005,  PG)
Little Manhattan
A sweet a cute love story told through the eys of a young boy. It definately reminds me of being a kid and had a great method of storytelling, the writer obviously knew what it was like to still be a child, a great cute little love story, its very charming.
17
What Happens in Vegas (2008,  PG-13)
What Happens in Vegas
A pretty predictable, unfunny romantic comedy its like everything Cameron Diaz has done in the past without any charm. The film is watchable but entirely forgettable and unless you have nothing else to watch I wouldn't really bother with it.
18
I'm Not There (2007,  R)
I'm Not There
Fantastic performances from all involved and some beautiful cinematogrophy let down by a story I didn't care for. It prehaps would've helped had I been a fan of Bob Dylan, but even then I think the pacing was off.
19
The Spiderwick Chronicles (2008,  PG)
The Spiderwick Chronicles
A fun filled, action packed kids film that doesn't let go. I can't help but think some kids would be scared seeing this, there are quite a few violent scenes in it as well.
20
Deja Vu (2006,  PG-13)
Deja Vu
A rather confusing but entertaining enough action film, it delves into territory that it doesn't really know how to handle and is out of its depth, but the performances and action sequences are good even if the storyline is completely unbelievable and out of its depth.
21
Freedom Writers (2007,  PG-13)
Freedom Writers
A fantastic, realistic and moving story about the struggle to accept race and how one dedicated teacher changed the lives of a few mis guided students. Potrayed brilliantly by Hilary Swank the story moves at a fast pace with some truely touching moments. Amongst all the death and anger the film tells a true story of human companionship and celebrates life.
22
Side Effects (2005,  R)
Side Effects
A good plotline with good intentions, let down by a poorly constructed scripts, random plot points thrown in throughout the film, horrible direction, barely existent editing and a lack sound mixing makes this film painful to watch. If ddone correctly this could have been not a bad film at all, but besides a good 'synopsis' the film fails in every aspect of filmmaking.
23
Atonement (2007,  R)
Atonement
A horribly slow paced film made up for a fantastic, sad and touching ending. Some beautiful cinematopgraphy and stunning war imagery. Its unfortunate the film moves along like a snail. Disappointing and certaintly not what I was expecting from such a highly acclaimed film.
24
Slumdog Millionaire (2008,  R)
Slumdog Millionaire
A completely moving, utterly brilliant celebration of life. Funny, Charming, Honest and poignant. An incredible feat by all involved. Danny Boyle sets in stone that he is one of the most original and enjoyable directors in the film industry. Deserves the acclaim 100% not sligghtly overrated, if anything it deserves more, the best film you will see all year.
25
Secretary (2002,  R)
Secretary
A fantastic performance by Maggie Gyllenhall, whose portrayl of Lee is what holds this otherwise odd and slow paced black comedy. Gyllenhaals character is interesting and strange which is what makes her so watchable and which makes the movie tick.
26
Margot at the Wedding (2007,  R)
Margot at the Wedding
Honest and enchanting performances by Jason Leigh and Kidman. Quirky, funny and touching all rolled into one. Top Notch performances from this quality drama about sibilings and the ups and downs of family and rivalry.
27
He's Just Not That Into You (2009,  PG-13)
He's Just Not That Into You
With a story playing out in similar fashion to Love Actually, this film sets the tone for some charming, funny, honest and real storytelling. Giniffer Goodwin adds an absolute glow as the lead in a film outweighed with Hollywood romcom heavyweights - its nice to see an up and comer shine amongst the big guns of this genre. Whilst not as brilliantly intertwined and scripted as its sister film Love Acutallly. He's just not that into you provides some solid laughs, bankable performances, a layer of sweetness which makes this a rememberable romcom and a perfect date movie.
28
Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008,  R)
Zack and Miri Make a Porno
A typical juvenille Kevin Smith movie, but it is completely and utterly hilarious. Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks completely bounce of each other (that's what she said :P). Justin Long has a stellar appearance albeit slightly short, I was just waiting for more, his character with his porn experience could've been used more, but he was hilarious. A film everyone should try and make it to just for a good belly laugh. And the depsite the story the film has a nice, touching ending that makes you feel gooey inside, which is something you probably wouldn't expect from this type of film.
29
Across the Universe (2007,  PG-13)
Across the Universe
The movie is far from terrible, I enjoyed numerous aspects from the music to the choregrophy but the characters were flat, there was no real development, and story relied purely on music, which as a musical it should, but there wasn't enough story development without using the music, which also didn't provide enough background, its visually beauitful and its got quite the charming, smaltzy ending which I loved. But overall its a slightly disappoiting venture when it could've been so much more, when you really think about how much inflluence The Beatles have had over pop culture.
30
Revolutionary Road (2008,  R)
Revolutionary Road
A haunting tale of suburbian life, a bleak potrayl of a married couple that doesn't so much beg the question why settle down, but emphasises the key theme of not letting opportunities pass you by.
The film is basically a solid 2 hours of a couple deciding whether or not they should move to Paris, but with honest and captivating performances by both leads the film holds itself together, its quite a difficult watch and you feel like you're literally a fly on the wall, Sam Mendes proves he knows the formula to suburbia as he does a great job here of recreating what he did with American Beauty.
31
Out of Sight (1998,  R)
Out of Sight
A sexy, stylish and sophisticated crime film with all round good performances and direction from Soderbergh, who only seemed to go up from here. Some funny scenes and an overall easy film to watch, even if the plot does go slightly wayward.
32
The Rundown (Welcome to the Jungle) (2003,  PG-13)
The Rundown (Welcome to the Jungle)
An adreneline fuelled adventure film, that packs a punch or two, with some very funny and entertaining moments.
33
Burn After Reading (2008,  R)
Burn After Reading
A delicious blend of thriller, suspense and a joyous dark comedy with a hilarious turn by Brad Pitt, Burn After Reading continues the Coen Brothers run of A Grade films.
34
Noise (2007,  Unrated)
Noise
A quirky, odd tale of a mans struggle against a city of inconvenience noise. The film works so well because its an issue no one has any control over, but has experienced some form of fustration with unnecessary alarms. Tim Robbins plays the deranged citizen who just snaps perfectly, as we watch his life sprial out of control due to a little noise. Something we all think yet never act upon, this film is funny and speaks the truth that everyone else turns a blind eye too.
35
The Manchurian Candidate (2004,  R)
The Manchurian Candidate
A horribly slow and only mildly interesting concept, a little ridiculous.
36
Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004,  R)
Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle
Like the sequel which I saw first, this is another no brainer film that brings the laughs in. A very easy watch, enjoyable watch and the comedic timing between the two leads is great, good chemistry.
37
Sleepless in Seattle (1993,  PG)
Sleepless in Seattle
A timeless romance film, despite being a romantic comedy, the comedy is extremely lacking, but it is a film the succeeds on every level of making you feel good inside.
38
Watchmen (2009,  R)
Watchmen
I can definitely see why this book has a cult following, and I can definitely see and understand when people say it was incredibly loyal to the source material, but IMO that was the films major problems. Unfortunately films don't have the luxury of taking as much time as a book to develop the story and the characters, a film should have a faster, more rounded approach to developing this, and by the film closely following the source material there were long sections of the film that felt dragged on, its all well and good to have that extra bit of development in a novel but when it drags down the pace of a film it needs to be cut, especially considering it doesn't really add all that much extra to the films storylines.

The film was far from bad, but the hype surrounding that was obviously purely from the geeks of the graphic novel fanbase, because it definately didn't live up to its hype. But I can see why certain crowds would enjoy it, unfortunately that just ain't me.

Technically its fantastic, its imaginative the effects are fantastic, the soundtrack was incredible, it looked great had alot of style and probably too much substance, can you believe I'm whinging about having TOO MUCH substance?!?! But I think that is the problem here with this film. Too much, it slowed down the pace waaayyy to much, at 160 mins its a long, convulted film that could've been more effective had it cut down on sections of the book that don't really add much to the film.
39
Millions (2005,  PG)
Millions
An inspired, charming, quirky and warm-hearted film, a film that appeals to the whole family, but doesn't delve into the typical cliche's of family films. Utterly enjoyable =)
40
Clerks (1994,  R)
Clerks
A rude, crude and hilarious account of a seemingly boring everyday routine job. Obviously one of Kevin Smiths first films the characters/actors have come along way in performance stakes since 1994, there are certain sections where the performances fall flat and the dialogue between characters seems awkward and forced. A good effort which paves the way for some newer Kevin Smith films.
41
Knowing (2009,  PG-13)
Knowing
A terrible, really terrible movie. Nicolas Cage doesn't seem to care about the movies he makes anymore; this film is B-Grade in every aspect. The effects are laughable the plot development is lagging from an idea which could've been executed properly and could have created a suspensful film, but it was wasted in mainstream attempts to blow sh!t up. The story was already over the top as is, but thats not where its faults lay, pleanty of films have come before this that have made good from ridiculous plot devices.

A real waste of time. Do not both visiting your local cinema for this one, prehaps not even wait for DVD.
42
Ghost World (2001,  R)
Ghost World
A very quirky, unusual film, with the same type of lead character - played perfectly by Thora Birch and the alternative unsure played by Scarlett Johansson - the acting is not where this film goes wrong, there isn't much going for it, its a simple story that tells it well but it feel like a whole lot of nothing happens in the film, it moves along slower than a snail, and I'm not really sure what it was meant to be? Off-Beat comedy? Drama? Dramedy? I did not laugh once, I had a slight chuckle at about 2 scenes. If offbeat quirkiness is what you're after this one should satisfy your cravings mildly, there are far better films that do it better though.
43
17 Again (2009,  PG-13)
17 Again
17 Again is a completely cliches film, that follows in the footsteps of numerous films that have stepped down this path before including Big and 13 going on 30 plus many more. And whilst there is nothing original in its story the film is enjoyable and quite funny. Mike's best Friend Ned often steals the scene and is a riot everytime he is in scene. Zac Effron brings his good looks to the film and the entertainer in him, but his performance isn't any thing standout, he needs to quickly choose some new roles before he is completely sterotyped. The film is also completely lacking a conclusion, it leaves open too many unresolved stories, which had another 15 minutes been spent everything could've been wrapped up.
But nonetheless the film is a fun easy watch not meant to be taken on the serious side of things.
44
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003,  PG-13)
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World
An action packed, epic adventure film that is energetic from start to finish. A splendid looking feature with captivating performances and breath-taking scenery and special effects. For a period piece action film, a genre normally off my limits this film was definately worth the watch, and didn't deserve to sit in my collection for 4 years before finally watching it.
45
21 (2008,  PG-13)
21
A smart, fast-paced, witty and edge of your seat drama thriller. Solid performances, slick editing and capable direction. I had read alot of reviews that stated it was generic and had been done before. And whilst it has been done with films like Oceans 11 and Confidence, I found this a much more entertaining and riveting thrill ride than the two mentioned above. A suprise little package hides amongst this film, fantastic.
46
Semi-Pro (2008,  R)
Semi-Pro
A slapstick comedy that ranks far below Will Ferrells previous sporting comedy outings, although you won't be short of a laugh.
47
Along Came Polly (2004,  PG-13)
Along Came Polly
A fun and charming film potrayed with honesty and heart by Jennifer Aniston, in what I believe is one of her best roles to date. Ben Stiller is also hilarious.
48
Monsters vs. Aliens (2009,  PG)
Monsters vs. Aliens
The 3D effects are done incredibly well, there are laughs a pleanty in the opening 45 minutes and lots of laughs at the conclusion of the film, yet the middle of the movie falls flat, it plods along happily but never really raises the bar, it actually falls below what it set up in the first half. If you can make sure you see it in 3D, the effects are brilliant and it isn't used as a gimmick.
49
Murder by Numbers (2002,  R)
Murder by Numbers
A solid murder mystery, a decent and intriguing plot but works itself like a procedural episode of CSI/Criminal Minds etc.
50
One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975,  R)
One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest
An honest and sometimes disturbing potrayl of mental illness which incorporates almost every element known to cinematic releases, a well rounded story with highs and lows and a phenomonal performance by Jack Nicholson who firms himself down as one of the greatest actors of all time, excellent potrayls from all actors involved and handled with superb direction.
51
Clerks II (2006,  R)
Clerks II
Dirty, Funnier and more vibrant than the original, yet a film that still manages to keep the charm and quirkiness from the original cult favourite, whilst adding new jokes that manage to make you cringe and laugh out loud.
52
Babylon A.D. (2008,  PG-13)
Babylon A.D.
A mess of a sci-fi film, which conveys the themes and elements from such classics as Blade Runner and just messes them up, a poor quality image of dystopia with dodgy acting. The special effects are decent though.
53
Standing Still (2005,  R)
Standing Still
A funny and touching tale of second chances and life as you move into the next stage of your life, the rest of your life.
54
Step Brothers (2008,  R)
Step Brothers
Will Ferrel films these days all tred the same water, and without insulting his fans, they are getting simpiler and stupider and not in a funny way.
His last few attempts have been very mediocre and I think its time for a change from him.
His last great movie was Stranger Than Fiction; which proved the man had comedic talent; but its wasted with boring, stupid scripts and more of the same which
I've seen in Anchorman, Blades of Glory, Talladega Nights etc, etc.
Step Brothers offers nothing new, and besides a few laughs that occur (have you seen the trailer? You've basically seen it all) the movie starts to become irritating as the film
begs you to root for these immature losers, which unless you're a fan of 40 year old, no hopers becomes quite hard to do.
I don't really know what happened to John C Riley, he used to be a good actor, but he's gone down the no-brain path....shame.
I know it sounds like I totally hated this film, but its just a disappointment because more and more comedy these days are heading down this path of unimaginitive thinking, its not a total waste of time, but its defiantely a let down.
55
X-Men Origins - Wolverine (2009,  PG-13)
X-Men Origins - Wolverine
A very loose 3 star rating, it actually deserves less but the film manages to stay quite enjoyable, for all its clanky dialouge, immature feeling and cheap looking cinematography the film never becomes a bore and is a very easy, 100 minute watch. Its a pure popcorn film, it does not equal any of the XMen films, not even the 3rd film, and whilst they would be around equal star ratings, I can't justify rating Wolverine any lower as I was entertained, not the best popcorn film, but it gets by.
56
The Savages (2007,  R)
The Savages
A mature, developed film of an older sibilings having to deal with their fathers mental illness after his girlfriend passes away and leaves him stranded. The story is developed and told from the perspective of the brother and sister who have not had much contact with their incompetent father who as its hinted, abused his children as they grew up; the story takes the angle of picking up the pieces and doing what is necessary to help out each other and the family when you have no choice in the matter. Very solid performances and a solid script make this an enjoyable feature.
57
High School Musical 3: Senior Year (2008,  G)
High School Musical 3: Senior Year
A fun, happy round up of the high school musical phenomenen. Solid performances by the whole cast, who no doubt have a bright future ahead of them, for all the sappy and corny dialouge HSM tickles the happy spot and puts a smile on your face.
58
Star Trek (2009,  PG-13)
Star Trek
As someone who doesn't have a clue about the Star Trek Universe and that previously hasn't been interested in anything to do with StarTrek; Paramount have done a fabulous job in promoting this to the untapped audience. The film helmed by who is becoming Hollywoods golden boy J.J. Abrahms the film which is considered a re-boot is an action packed, fantasy driven, excitment coaster. It never lets up and develops characters well for someone who doesn't know already know them. Special Effects are seriously extraordinary; everything just looks incredible; and if it weren't for some dodgy shaky cam which Mr Abrahms is obviously a fan of the film would've been even better. But as it stands its a very, very fun and enjoyable film, and a great kick start to the summer movie season considering what a let down Wolverine was....
59
Beverly Hills Cop (1984,  R)
Beverly Hills Cop
A funny and suprisingly still modern comedy. The movie's jokes have not dated and neither has the action; films don't get made like this anymor.
60
Halloween (2007,  R)
Halloween
The opening hour of Rob Zombie's Halloween is fantastic; a haunting and chilling potrayl giving background and depth to one of Hollywoods most iconic horror characters. After a fun and entertaining hour, the film for its second act delves in to sub-par horror cliches and is like every other slasher film you've ever seen. There is a big shift of focus from the first half to the second and its a big disappointment, I was hooked and loving every second of the first hour; then it all goes downhill, I even lost interest in some parts. The film scores well for the first hour which is very nicely developed, but I most definately do not have any expectations for the upcoming sequel.
61
Terminator Salvation (2009,  PG-13)
Terminator Salvation
Oh where to start I'm a big Terminator geek.

I went in with insanely low expectations for this film, it didn't have alot going for it IMO, McG hadn't shown he was capable of handling a film this big. But he impressed me, the film was alot of fun big action set pieces intergrated well, handled with class and competent direction.

My main gripe was that it didn't push the envelope it didn't bring the franchise into a new place, the film opened and closed without anything really changing; skynet is not destroyed, John Connor Lives, Kyle Reese lived they just didn't have the balls mix it up and change the franchises direction, which is what the previous terminator films did, it was like all along they were hinting at time travel and they never bothered going there because it would through too many spanners in the works. After initially being in disgust of the previous "proposed" ending with John Connor being turned into a machine; while as ridiculous as it sounds I think it would've actually played out well on film. It mixed the franchise up gave us a new beginning; I like that fact that each previous Terminator movie has done something to change the future; they didn't achieve anything in this film.

Now I didn't hate the film, I was actually VERY VERY Entertained, and for someone that has no investment in the Terminator franchise this film is bucketloads of fun and I can see exactly why some people might give it 5 stars, because its awesome; the action is incredible, the effects are insanely realistic (Like the New Star Trek) the acting is top notch and it keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time.

That Arnold cameo blew me away. We all knew he was in it, but how he'd actually be used just knocked my socks off, I had the biggest grin across my face when I saw him. And it looks INCREDIBLE!! Just goes to show what Hollywood is capable of.

I wouldn't say the film is any better than any previous Terminator films, its on par maybe a tad bit better than Number 3 (which IMO copped alot of unnecessary flack) but it still doesn't come remotely close to the brilliance of T1 and T2. But its still utterly enjoyable.

I'm in two minds of how to rate this, on one hand its a 4 - 4.5 star film, In judging it as a Terminator film (which it is) I'd give it 3.5.
62
I Love You, Man (2009,  R)
I Love You, Man
Paul Rudd and Jason Segel are becoming two of the biggest names in Hollywood comedy right now. Both coming of the back of two hilarious and successful comedies this film takes viewers for a ride and awkward ride which at times Rudd makes you cringe with his pathetic phrases and complete social awkwardness; Segel on the other hand plays the cool, hip and relaxed guy that everyone wants to be friends with perfectly, he is the friend that you'd love to have, loyal, fun and willing to help you out whenever you need it. I Love you man has great funny performances from everyone involved Jon Favrou is utterly hilarious as he usually is in top form, plays that guy we've all had to dealt with the role of your girlfriends best friends partner, try all you want they're just a d!ck. I Love You man provides some classic moments which will be remembered long after you've finished seeing the film and will have you laughing long after the scene is over. Top Stuff.
63
My Best Friend's Girl (2008,  R)
My Best Friend's Girl
How this film is rated higher than flickster users that I Love you Man is beyond me, after having watched I love you man in cinema and feeling in a laughing kind of mood I rented My Best Friends Girl which unfortuantely doesn't compare, it had a few moments of shock and laughs but it is essentially another Dane Cook vehicle and he is not a good actor, sure he may look good but he has nothing on the comedic skills of well almost anyone in Hollywood. Kate Hudson is bland and mediocre, if she's going to act I'd much rather her stay in the romcoms the girls seem to love she has a place there and she does it well. This film just doesn't suit her. And its not very funny at all. I had heard so many good things about this film and that it was utterly hilarious but I failed to be so entertained. It is a disappointment, it passes the time but it is nothing special, very forgettable and just crude, which is not my sense of comedy.
64
The Hangover (2009,  R)
The Hangover
Absolutely hilarious. One of the funniest movies I have seen in recent times. A fantastic ensemble cast who all completely bounce off each other. A fun, easy watch that doesn't stop right till the end. Consistently funny and directed with incredible comedic timing.
65
Trainspotting (1996,  R)
Trainspotting
A hard hitting account of a life of drugs and the effect it has on you and your friends. Disturbing and provocative with standout performances and fabulous direction by Danny Boyle!
66
Serenity (2005,  PG-13)
Serenity
A fun, innovative and original sci-fi which refreshens the genre. From cult maker mastermind Joss Whedon - this film is very, very good - for a small budget film the effects are good and the focus is heavily on the characters which is refreshing.
67
Milk (2008,  R)
Milk
An insipring and interesting story of a mans determination to bring about right in the lives of the gay community. Milk though suffers from pacing; the film doesn't kick into gear until the 1 hour mark; which then seems to go by seemingly quickly. Penn is not the star performer in this vehicle that credit goes to Josh Brolin and James Franco.
68
Role Models (2008,  R)
Role Models
Role Models starts out promising with the ever likable Paul Rudd. But fails when it takes a sub plot of the film and turns it into the big conclusion, it feels long and drawn out and the film really isn't all that funny, its very watchable, but in comparison with recent comedies this doesn't hit the spot.
69
The Wrestler (2008,  R)
The Wrestler
Definatley a movie worthy of seeing and its captivating and never boring, but really does it deserve the amount of praise it has gotten? No. Its entertaining it has heart but essentially I don't think it is perfect as some have made this film out to be. Darren Aronosky no doubt is a fantastic director - to take a topic like in this film and turn it into such a dramatic and entertaining film.

Things We Lost in the Fire (2007,  R)
Things We Lost in the Fire
A very emotionally draining and haunting film with standout performances from the two leads. Slow moving but a good story and performances will keep you enticed in what comes next.

Bride Wars (2009,  PG)
Bride Wars
Bride Wars wasn't as horrible as I initially expected it to be horrible. And whilst horribly predicatable there were moments when the film was trying to think outside the box, unfortunately come the ending everything is perfect and normal again. Kate Hudsons character was very unlikeable and Anne Hathaway was the saving grace. Definately not a film I would revist but it isn't a boring or painful film to watch.
72
Transformers (2007,  PG-13)
Transformers
To start things rolling, Michael Bay = Horrible Filmmaker but he sure knows how to blow **** up, and he creates spectacular action set pieces...he just needs to really work on how he deals with Character development and emotional sequences (just because huge musical scores are in place, doesn't mean that constitutes as emotions).

The film was completely cliches both in terms of Bay's style and in typical Hollywood style. The dialouge was corny as, some of the best comming from Josh Dhumal (sp?) "You're a soilder now" (hahaha)

But for everything I've just mentioned you can pretty much ignore, because the movie is just so darn enjoyable, from the get go. Its running time is something like 2 and a Half hour, but it zooms by so quick you just wish you could sit for another 2 hours watching the autobots and deciphacons battle it out.

The action is fantastic, the CGI is top rate there is no qualms in that department what so ever.

Shia is awesome, he has some really hilarious scenes (as does alot of the other characters, although not on purpose)

The movie blew me away because I don't think I've had that much fun in a movie for a long, long time. And better than the past 3 flicks I've seen at the cinema which include (shrek 3, Oceans 13 & Fantastic 4)

Highly recommend anyone seeing it, if they're up for a bit of mindless dumb action fun, don't go there expecting any more because you will be extremely disappointed.

I hyped this movie up for myself so much, on the principle it was to be big, dumb, loud, action, fun. And going in with that attitude allowed me to enjoy it a whole lot more.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009,  PG-13)
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Oh this film was long...so very, very long and so very drawn out.

I don't really feel the need to write a long review because its pretty basic stuff.

Pointing out a few things.

The Good

- Amazing, purely spectacular graphics.

- Great direction - Michael Bay isn't a good director but he knows how to create mayhem and
theres an abundance of it here, its epic.

- Shia - did a great job with what he was given

The Bad

- Story structure - this was not so much the story of the film - hell I don't need some intricate thing which this film was trying to be - but given that it did try to be that why not focus on following up on things that get started, theres so many start and stop points I was loosing track, very poorly structured, it was all there looking back on it, but there was no flow.

- New Side kicks possibly the worst addition in any film since Jar Jar Binks the autobot twins were horrible. They were lame, cringeworthy and frankly embarrassing to watch.

- Comedy - why bother, there was too much focus on comedy and it didn't work, light jokes thrown in the mix like the first one I can handle, but this is not a comedy, it was lame.

- Running time - did they edit out ANYTHING? The film went for far, far too long, far far far far too long. It was so long it drained the fun out of what it had to offer, I'm all up for robots blowing **** up but there needs to be some constraints. 2 hours 30 minutes is excessive and exhausting to sit through.

Revenge of the Fallen ticked all the right boxes in terms of being a sequel - which is unfortunate because ticking all the right boxes to classify as a sequel isn't really a good thing the film is bigger but with that comes the fatigue.

Brüno (Bruno) (2009,  R)
Brüno (Bruno)
Bruno is typical Cohen fare; it does get laughs, but essentially its a one joke film - and there's only so many gay jokes you can take untill it starts to get old. But its good for a belly laugh, not much else to say really. Its not as entertaining as Borat I think, and the 80 minutes tends to feel dragged just a little.
75
Very Bad Things (1998,  R)
Very Bad Things
Highly twisted and a little disturbing, this is defiantely one of the darkest comedies I have personally come across; its violent and perfectly acted by all; and its a entertaining ride watching all the mains deal with the situation as it continues to spiral out of control....in their head. Perfectly examples what goes through our brains when we start to panic.
76
Seven Pounds (2008,  PG-13)
Seven Pounds
A fanatastic premise that hooks in from start to end and is a real payoff - a slightly convoluted story to begin with which makes the opening of the film quite a confusing watch but in time the pieces all start falling together and the pay off is well worth it, fantastic portaryls from Will Smith and especially Rosario Dawson, Seven Pounds is an emotionally charged drama and well worth the watch.
77
My Sister's Keeper (2009,  PG-13)
My Sister's Keeper
A truely emotional film that reduces the audience to a wet box of kleenex, stand out performances from Abigail Breslin and the sick daughter, come to think about it all the kids in the film do an incredible job in their portrayls the adult actors are even intriguing in their roles. A powerful theme that I felt wasn't fully addressed would've made this film so much more and would've taken it to a completely new level of ethics, but the team played it safe and opted to go the safe way, whilst that safe way was an emotional rollercoaster I would've appreciated if there were more focus on the ethics of the whole medical emancipation storyline more.
78
Drag Me to Hell (2009,  PG-13)
Drag Me to Hell
I Saw this yesterday and I can say it was so bloody enjoyable and alot of fun, despite the cringeworthy script and the moments of hilarious stupidity the film effectively managed to be a jump out of your chair thrill ride; I have not been scared in a movie for some time and I found this film intense and terrifying; and upon checking its details found it was only PG-13 in the US..... WTF?!?! Seriously WTF?!?!!? How did the MPAA classify this PG-13 it is soeasily an R rated film - just because it didn't have alot of gore or swearing should equal a lesser classification becuase the film is intense; it has some truely terrifying scenes for a PG-13 film. But a fun ride all the same.

G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra (2009,  PG-13)
G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra
This film was utterly terrible, I can't see how someone can get so much enjoyment out of a film like this unless they were 10 years old. Yes films are about entertainment but this was poorly constructed, cheap tacky action, horrible acting it didn't even fit the bill as big dumb fun, it was just dumb.

How Robot and PF manage to give this any higher than 2 stars is so far beyond me I just urgh, I went for a bit of fun with Friends and fun we had laughing incessantly at this stupid film.

As I said if I were a 10 year old boy this film would have been the ants pants, but I'm not I'm 22 years old and I am so far past this demographic its not even funny.

I'm not sure even geeky fan boys could extract much from this!

District 9 (2009,  R)
District 9
I saw it and I loved it! It was so good. Original, thrilling and fun!

The hero is a flawed character and I loved his development and the way they progressed his story. I loved that the film focused on the humanity behind the alien evictions and the film not only effectively works as a sci-fi film but works on a level relating towards prejudice and racism. I think you'll know what I'm referring to when you see it.

Its a fabulous film and the budget was only $30 million; its amazing to watch a film like this effectively managed effects, action, acting whilst being a tremendously entertaining movie.

Too many films these days are effects driven and they compromise the story. This film uses effects to its advantage and doesn't make the film about the effects they complement the story which is all SFX should do.

Its refreshing to come out of the cinema enjoying a film for once!
81
Chaos (2005,  R)
Chaos
A pretty below par action film, the action is poorly handled, the script is poorly constructed, the acting and dialouge is both bad and dodgy. A real horrible film, don't bother.
82
Alien (1979,  R)
Alien
Haunting and thirlling; Alien proves itself to be one of the most effective sci-fi horrors ever creating; spawning movie history and iconic characters, Alien is a thrill ride!
83
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009,  PG)
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
I haven't enjoyed a Harry Potter film like this for so long. Dark, mature and excellently executed. A big step up in direction from David Yates; Order of The Phoenix was a bit of a mess and the story was all over the place; whilst this is in similar vein to setting up the final chapter it works well as a film alone and can be enjoyed without having to watch the series to date. The cast are magnificant the effects are brilliant and the storyline is effectively translated. A superb effort and possibly the best potter film to date. Bring on The Death Hollows.
84
Aliens (1986,  R)
Aliens
Classic action, classic Cameron; An effective edge of your seat action film which Cameron delivers with such ease it has his trademarks all over the film which are evident in so many others. Not as effectively scary as the first film which worked more as a horror film; this ups the ante but focuses alot more on the sci-fi action than the slow, creepy atmospheric feeling of the first.
85
Rachel Getting Married (2008,  R)
Rachel Getting Married
Not a bad movie in any way, but the whole film feels like a non-event; it plods along slowly unraveling the family drama, but doesn't really do anything to hook us in; it feels like you're a fly on the wall watching the awkwardness of the family interractions. The film acts as a showcase for Hathaway who is far and away the best thing about this film and deserves the nods she has received for her portrayl of Kym, but the film itself falls flat and there isn't much that makes me want to recommend watching it; it passes time; but its slow and scenes tend to last forever. A disappointment.
86
Twilight (2008,  PG-13)
Twilight
I'm a bit behind in the twilight hype but eventually caught up. Whilst the film represents teen cliches, second rate exchanges and no stand out effects, its a film that definately delivers excitment and keeps you intrigued even through the soapiness of the love attraction. A very enjoyable romp.
87
Up (2009,  PG)
Up
Pixar continues its streak of awesomeness. Up is consistently funny to both kids and adults, exciting, action packed and emotionally touching. The visuals looks nothing short of stunning, the character of Carl Fredricksen is completely fleshed out and well rounded and the team manage to write his story background in all of 10 minutes a credit to the writers of pixar films; most other filmmakers struggle to make their character so well rounded in 90 minutes yet pixar manage to do it in 10.
88
In Bruges (2008,  R)
In Bruges
A smart, witty, very funny and boundry pushing thriller, wraps up alot of what you'd like to see in a film and doesn't stick to the conventional plot points of other thrillers. Fast paced, excellent exchanges and a thrilling ending that you won't see coming.
89
Pirate Radio (The Boat That Rocked) (2009,  R)
Pirate Radio (The Boat That Rocked)
A hilarious and extremely fun, enjoyable trip. Top notch casting; story with heart, wit and charm and a brilliant soundtrack to top of a wonderful film. The film does fall victim to a mediocre middle part and some scenes tend to drag a little in length but you'll still be entertained. Not the classic british comedy but one that will leave you with a smile on your face.
90
Taken (2009,  PG-13)
Taken
Whilst on the surface it is nothing new; the dialouge is for the main part cheesy; there is something this action romp has that keeps you thrilled and entertained; its not an oscar winning film but nor is it trying to be. Its an easy way to kill time; it hold your attention from the get go and the action is heavy whilst not being over the top.
91
Alien 3 (1992,  R)
Alien 3
What a fall from grace this film is; it spends way to long setting up the premise of the story, which by the way is quite a bore. The action falls flat and basically only involves people running around an old prison; The Alien is neither daunting or scary in this film; how it managed to ignore what made the first two so great I don't know. Now I have the long journey ahead because I still have Rescurrection to watch; and we all know that is worse than this one.
92
(500) Days of Summer (2009,  PG-13)
(500) Days of Summer
A very funny, unique and original take on relationships; it's refreshing to see a film focus on the flaws and that not all relationships take a happy ending; the film disects itself into tiny pieces with snippets of the highs and lows from the 500 days since the start of the relationship. Whilst the editing may seem like an odd choice with the film not playing out in chronological order it makes perfect sense on screen and really points out how you view a relationship once it's over.

The two leads are abolsutely charming and bounce of each other perfectly, the direction is solid and the film is littered with indie gold rock tracks.

Given the aesthetic of the film you will, suprisingly, leave the cinema having shed a tear but be overcome with smiles as this oddly unromantic yet feel good film embraces you.
93
The Secret Life of Bees (2008,  PG-13)
The Secret Life of Bees
An emotional and well acted film; slightly slow in parts but never boring; direction is solid and the cinematography for a film more focused on story and characters is quite beautiful in many scenes; colours are vibrant and it bounces off the screen.

A solid rainy afternoon movie.
94
Whip It (2009,  PG-13)
Whip It
A funny, warm and inviting movie about growing up and finding yourself. Whip It is fantastic from the casting to the soundtrack, Ellen Page is perfect yet again but one must be worried about her being typecast in this sort of role; but she plays it so effortlessly and with cool sophistication. A rocking movie that will surely leave a smile on your face.
95
Alien Resurrection (1997,  R)
Alien Resurrection
After hearing nothing but negativity regarding Alien Resurrection I sat down with a negative attitude and while clearly the movie is not on a scale anywhre near the first two films, In my opinion it explored something more interesting than Number 3 which kinda just sat around doing nothing for 100 minutes. If you can let your mind run free and get over some of the insanely ridiculous plot points I'm sure you'll be able to have fun with this film for what it is; sure the franchise diminished but at least you can still have some B Grade sci-i/action/horror fun.
96
Gran Torino (2009,  R)
Gran Torino
What a fantastic film! From start to end Clint Eastwood is a facscinating character to watch; his personal turmoils unfold as he comes to realise just what the world has become; a story right from the heart which deals heavily with racism and old fashioned values; brilliant! If anything only the first half hour is a little slow pace but by the end you really appreciate the character development.
97
Couples Retreat (2009,  PG-13)
Couples Retreat
With such a great cast behind it, its a shame this couldn't get off the ground; 3 of my favourite comedic actors; Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman and Jon Favreau are such a let down and don't nearly provide the comedy I was expecting, I didn't even go into the film listening to what the critics had said; I thought "critics just don't enjoy these types of films" so I went anyway, and was disappointed. Whilst the film isn't horrible and is quite watchable, as a comedy starring some of the funniest working in the business at the moment the laughs were few and far between with parts where I dosed off into boredom at times staring at the lights on the floor of the cinema stairwell. Not "shocking" but too much room for improvement to be good.
98
The Animal (2001,  PG-13)
The Animal
A pretty horrible movie with next to no redeeming qualities; it's everything you'd expect from a Rob Schneider movie....and no I didn't sit down with expectations to love this movie :P
99
Leatherheads (2008,  PG-13)
Leatherheads
A movie I found unromantic and not overly funny; it had a few giggles but nothing more. The first 45 minutes was actually quite entertaining and then it all just lost its way. The 3 leads are good in their roles though.
100
Year of the Dog (2007,  PG-13)
Year of the Dog
A quirky and charming film for the first 30 minutes in which we see Peggy only feeling loved by her Dog pencil, but when pencil dies it sends her loopy and I kinda just lost where the story was going. Would've been better had it stuck to your usual rom com and Peggy finding love after Pencil; oh and its really slow considering it clocks in just under 90 minutes you think it would be an easy watch but it feels like it goes for 2 hours.
101
Paranormal Activity (2009,  R)
Paranormal Activity
Uh its always a bad thing when you listen to the hype. Scariest Movie of all time? No, not even close I've seen scarier movies this year (Drag Me To Hell) whilst Paranorml Activity isn't a bad film it treads water for 85 minuntes doing really well nothing; I wasn't scared and I wanted to be terrified from what I had heard the film was all about. But on a budget of only $15,000 kudos goes to the crew behind Paranormal Activity in being able to create a tense atmosphere with some genuinely creepy and eerie moments without relying on special effects.
102
Michael Jackson's This Is It (2009,  PG)
Michael Jackson's This Is It
A rare glimpse into the genius of Michael Jackson, an inside look to the workings of one of the greatest musicians of all time. Insightful a wonderful watch.
103
Zombieland (2009,  R)
Zombieland
Clocking in at a mere 81 minutes; this film moves fast; and is a real fun romp; what Zombie movie isn't right? With a perfect balance of horror shitick and genuine comedy Zombieland proves to be what slapstick zombie films like Shaun of The Dead is not. Stand out performance by Woody Harrelson and a nothing short of brilliant cameo by Bill Murray. I would highly HIGHLY recommend Zombieland to anyone looking for a fun film; zombie fan or not.
104
The Proposal (2009,  PG-13)
The Proposal
A rather cliche romantic comedy the bares enough charm between the two leads to make this one enjoyable enough to watch; if only it stuck to what it knew in the first half of the film for the ending all would be better. Sit down to watch this expecting the cliches and you won't have a problem with this film.
105
2012 (2009,  PG-13)
2012
The years greatest comedy; unintentionally or not. If there is one thing Roland Emmerich knows how to do; its how to destroy the world and 2012 is a culmination of all his films; its the mother ship he's obviously been dying to make. With dialouge chocked full of cheese, action scenes which are pure spectacle and physics that is unbelievable that it become laughable. Whilst 2012 sticks to delivering its story and dialouge with a straight face the audience; or those that know better are sitting back laughing.

2012 is The Day After Tomorrow on a much bigger scale; unfortunately crappy dialouge and crazy plot lines aside 2012 is way, way to long to actually enjoy on a popcorn level. Everybody knows what they're walking into when they see a movie like this; especially one that comes from Roland Emmerich but when you need to sit through such drivel for close to 3 hours it becomes far to antagonising
106
The Final Destination (2009,  R)
The Final Destination
In the same vein as the previous 3 films Final Destination 4 has inventive deaths and adds the "in thing" right now by incorporating 3-D which looks pretty cool; I haven't seen to many live action 3-D films but this one looks decent. Like a B-grade horror movie the acting is not anything special and like the others Death always wins; but its fun watching its victims try.
107
Moon (2009,  R)
Moon
A rather subdued and slow paced film; held together perfectly by Sam Rockwell; and at only 90 mins the film hold your attention; creating a perfect atmosphere the fact this film was made on only $5 million is a major credit to all involved; at times the film seems overly convoluted; but is actually quite an easy film to follow when you strip it down to the basics.
108
The Fountain (2006,  PG-13)
The Fountain
The Fountain is an extremely beautiful looking film; the visual representation is astounding; but the storyline is quite a muddled up adventure; after becoming lost by the end of the film I decided to go and read up on the net, reading a quote from the director it stated that the film really didn't have a story structure; so I took from that what I wanted and developed the story as best I could in my mind :P The main plot revolves around present day America where Tommy is trying to find a cure for his dying wife who is suffering with cancer.

The films timeline spans from the 16th Century where Tommy's character is on the search for the fountain of youth; these experiements span thousands of years and culminate in a series of images that still don't make all the much sense.

A tad pretentious....
109
Samson and Delilah (2009,  Unrated)
Samson and Delilah
A harrowing and disturbingly realistic portrayl of the indigenous communities in remote communities. Samson and Delilah is a love story expressed with a lack of dialouge; for the most part this works well; but there are a few scenes that you feel the need for something to be said yet it just sits there stagnant. Especially some of the earlier scenes with Samson trying to "win over" Delilah the awkward interaction between the two is quite odd to watch when nothing is being said.

That said it is quite a powerful film and is well worth checking out.
