Jackie Brown (1997,  R)
Jackie Brown 5.0 Stars
The most underrated of Tarantino's films and the most mature and subtle.Sure all the Tarantino trademarks are there but there's a lot less flash and almost no onscreen violence.Back in '97 I think a lot of people, myself included, were expecting Pulp Fiction 2 and that's not this at all.Of course this has terrific use of music, heavy on 70's soul. The film is basically Tarantino's take on the blaxploitation genre via the Elmore Leonard novel Rum Punch and a love letter to Pam Grier, who's never been better.Robert Forster was also resurrected from the Hollywood graveyard with his strong, understated performance. This really has grown on me over the years.Deniro is hilarous as a stoner ex-con,and Samuel L Jackson is also excellent. In fact, the whole cast in perfect, even Chris Tucker in a small role.

Excellent film noir.A convoluted plot to say the least but that's part of the fun.
