Movies I've Watched 2008

Once you can get over the fact that it's a teen movie (silly plot, and loads of eye candy), it's actually not that bad for its intended audience.

Strong performances by Washington and Crowe make this movie engrossing and richly satisfying to watch.

Not bad for an Australian movie, but that said, it isn't very good.

Ben Affleck's intense directorial debut is a study of human nature and the real struggle with conscience. Gutsy performances by Amy Ryan and Casey Affleck add layers to the raw authenticity of the screenplay. A riveting movie.

Liked the plot. However, don't you think if she was the devil's child, she would inflict more terror than just making doors creak? Ending seems to pave the way for a sequel.

It's seldom that you get a film that's simultaneously profound and beautifully comic and wonderfully painful, filled with delightful remorse, and, more than anything else, the sweetest, sweetest redemptive qualities.

Mindless neo noir entertainment. Like how the protagonist breaks away from the story to mock the film. Enjoyable characters and charismatic stars make it watchable.

Filled with terrific scenes and strong performances and the director's eye for detail is amazing. You feel that it's not so much what the people say as how they say it. There is a scene that is so pure and moving, when George sings about Jesus calling him home, and how Madeleine looks on in shock, as if seeing her husband for the very first time. Other memorable scenes include Johnny's unexpected reaction when a documentary about meerkats comes on TV, and a poignant moment between George and Ashley in the hospital. Wonderfully honest. A must-see film for any true film fan.

Crazy, mindless fun, but it gets a bit old after the half hour mark. Good action sequences and wisecracks though.

The whole concept of the movie is absurd for sure, which is perhaps why I couldn't connect with any of the characters. The warmth and acceptance of the concerned community is surprisingly sweet though.

The only reason for the extra star was for the pebble. Other than that, it's a dumb juvenile male wish fulfillment unfunny romantic comedy. There was enough violence of the mind to grieve the Holy Spirit within every Christian. Anyone who likes this must be brain damaged.

To call the characters cardboard is to insult a useful packing material. One of the worst movies of the year. Why was this movie even made?
